So, for some reason I've been thinking about getting a tattoo lately. Middle age crisis setting in at 33 perhaps? I dunno. I've always wanted one (actually tossed around the idea of being a tattoo artist myself once upon a time), just never got around to it. Anyway, if I get one, I've already settled on what I want- the quote "This above all: to thine own self be true," from Shakespeare's Hamlet. The thing I can't decide on is artwork and location. Kinda' thinkin' inside left forearm, but being my first tattoo, that may be a little too... visible? All you tattooed freaks give me some suggestions! ~SM |

I've been considering ink for a long while, but can't decide on what I want. |

My friend's 80 year old deaf Canadian Grandma got a tattoo while in Nashville. It was a heart with a banner containing the name of her dead husband. Pretty cool. |

I would say it depends on what kind of work you do I mean if you are often put in situations were you may have to be around people that look down on that type of then put it somewhere were it is not seen in a short sleeve shirt. If that is not a concern then go for it. Also remember this tattoos are addicting once you get one you will get more. |

Try to find a goof artist in your area, give them that quote and let them come up with a few ideas on how to make that into an artistic peace. I've found that GOOD artists like to have a little freedom to create art, not just trace something you bring in. Ad far as location goes, my rule is it needs to be able to be covered by a long sleeve shirt. Hands, neck, face and skull are off limits. |

Firebolt is partially right about accepted in some situations, The passed few years tattoo's have been accepted more than ever before. Badlion makes a good point. Location is the key. I'd say go for it. Find an artist go to the shop, ask to see his portfolio. Cleanliness of the studio would be a factor to consider to be important. Staff infections could do a job on anyone. |

"A permanent reminder of a temporary feeling." Jimmy Buffet Hey SM, at 33 I hope you're not middle-aged! You're still a young buck to most of us. I almost got drunk enough with Ferris one evening to get one. We talked about them but were too plastered to find a place. Good thing looking back. Who knows what I'd have ended up with hanging with someone like him. JB2 |

GO FOR IT! Been wanting another, just waiting till the time is right. Got 5, so have not gone nuts or anything. +1 badlions. Give the artist a little room to be an artist. Also think about what type of work you do in terms of labor. In side forearm is used a lot if you have a physical job. time the tat with some time off to give it a chance to heal. What you want is cool, I like it. Thinking about something like that if I make 5 years recovery, it's part our deal. |

LOL @ the Who song... never heard that one. I'm a professional desk jockey, so not much physical labor to deal with. Worst injury I get around here is elbow calluses from the armrest on my chair. Seriously. Sad, I know. I have a dress code to adhere to which requires khakis, a non-teeshirt, and no sneakers. No mention of body art. And I've been here for almost 15 years, so hopefully that would help if anyone started to make a fuss. Maybe having the quote made into a bicep band would be better? Hmm. ~SM |

How do you even look at yourself in the mirror Rice? I'm with most here. Be sure it's exactly what you want, find a good artist to put a twist on it you will like and depending on what you do for a living put it where you want. My boss is cool and doesn't care. If a customer has an issue while on site I'd where long sleeves. My opinion for something like that would be above the elbow of either arm, inside or out. With it being your only one I'd think it would look out of place in the middle of your forearm. Just my opinion though. |

Maybe having the quote made into a bicep band would be better? Hmm. Would have to be a short quote on my bicep. Now.. I could have the entire Constitution of the United States tattooed on my belly. |

Get it tattooed backwards on your forehead so you can read it in the mirror |

I got my 4th on wednsday. I have no regrets, but many do. If you're in sales, or have to worry what others think place it where nobody sees it. while it's more aceptable now than it used to be, some still don't like it and will judge you by it. I have my kids names on my wrists, and I still get comments from people. |

It's a personal decision that you should give some thought to, but understand one thing- they're addictive. After I got my first, before I knew it I was up to five- and want more. The best part is, when dressed you can't see any of them. Properly placed, a tattoo does not have to be a dress code issue- if you don't want it as a fashion statement they're easy to conceal. When the time is right you'll get one- just make sure you've thought it out well. |

Yup, take your time. It took me about 10 years to decide on my sleeve, and at the rate I'm going, might be close to that when the next one gets started. |

That pic reminds me of my boss' son. He had strength put inside one arm and honor on the other. The artist spelled strength wrong. NO ONE caught it until after they were done! |

Sounds like something you could put around your wrist, and cover it up with a watch after it heals. |

I would love to have this inked on me:
I'm just a lover of pleasure, not pain. From what I have been told, anyone who tells you it doesn't hurt is lying to you so they can laugh at you when you cry out in pain. |

Pain depends on the area. The outside of my forearm was honestly as close to painless as ya can get. Inside of the wrist........exact opposite. Hurt so effin bad I wanted to cry. This coming from someone who was laughing inside my helmet the second I popped up from the road after my crash, so take it for what it's worth I guess. |

He's right. My forearm didn't hurt bad at all. My guy had to slowly do my wrist...he had my hand twitching like crazy. Up around the arm pit made me about crawl the wall as well but around the elbow on that same piece was fine. Up near my shoulder I was nearly asleep. Different areas are more sensitive than others. I need an Angel girl leaning on a cloud for my next piece if we have any artists here by the way. |

Firebolt32, like I said before, I actually considered doing tattoo art myself once upon a time. If you can get me a rough stick figure sketch of the layout of your angel, I'll see what I can do for ya. Girls happen to be my specialty. ~SM |

I have a couple in mind, but haven't got either of them started yet. One is simple- 5 Greek symbols on my pec that spell Agape (God's love, or Love of God). The other is a full back piece that's anything BUT simple- one of the Seraphim from Isaiah 6. |
