Has anyone seen the Roadracing World interview with EB?

The author suggests (and hopefully it's more than just wishful thinking on his part ) that we could still see some variation of the middleweight triple "Sugar" that Steve Anderson mentioned in his Cycle World article coming from Erik Buell Racing at some point in the future.

Personally, I'd rather see a 700 cc water-cooled triple (or maybe an 850 cc twin) as a more reasonably powered, great handling alternative to the fire-breathing 1190RR rather than an air-cooled XB replacement.

A bike like that should be able to maintain the spirit of the XB's (though lacking the heritage and exhaust note of the air-cooled engine) and do some things better.

A bike like that could compete in AMA Sportbike and FIM Supersport and no-one would complain about a "displacement advantage.

I agree. I'd like to see a middleweight as well.

I wouldn't mind if Triumph brought out the 825cc Street Triple.

I prefer the air cooled bikes for everyday riding. I have spent most of my life riding air cooled bikes with the exception of a few, heck I even have a liquid cooled KLX400R dirt bike right now- it's for sale BTW...
No doubt the waterheads are faster, but I ride a VTR1000 on the track when I feel the need for speed.

I have almost 140 hp at the wheel with my 1125, it gets wrung out to redline almost daily, and it _still_ gets 40 mpg average.

Is that one run to redline per day cause I get about 31 MPG on the average on the street?

Fresnobuell -- Yup, usually down the entrance ramp onto the highway, 1/4 mile or so, usually hit 130-140 and bang the first 4 gears off the limiter. I cruise at maybe 70-75, sometimes 80. Rarely faster, but it's been known to happen on occasion to see a run up over 150 at nite.

Edit, last tank, 4.1 gallons, 158 miles, so it wasn't quite 40 mpg on the last one.

The FIM is not going to let Erik Buell Racing run a triple with anything close to 800cc in world supersport. It took Triumph a lot of politicking to get them to allow a 675cc triple and Ducati still hasn't had the limit for twins raised from 750. The Japanese ie Honda are going to fight tooth and nail against that.

L.C., you can get a year online for $7.50:

https://home.roadracingworld.com/clickshare/addAcc ount.do

WELL worth the cost IMHO. I get the electronic and print version because I'm still old-fashioned and I like to have something I can hold, but for you, in Australia, it probably makes sense to just get the electronic version.

But I'd recommend it. Probably the best, most anticipated magazine I receive . . . and I'm anticipating reading some really cool things about Erik Buell Racing over the coming year.

Airheads rule!! FTW!!! I haver ridden/raced an 1125r, an XB and a tuber. The one that brings me the most smiles per mile is still the S1W. To me it's a "69 camaro" of the motorcycle world.

But I do see the need for Erik Buell Racing's first street venture to be a waterhead. It would probably be in their best interest to come out of the box kicking and screaming with a bike that can compete with other bikes in the same class (ie; a configuration to compete with middle weights or the 1190 to compete with the liter bikes).

Go Erik Buell Racing!!!

Like many of you, I saw Erik at the Buell Homecoming trackday this June. He said that there will definitely be a street version of the 1190, and it will be the 1190RR with the components required to make it street-able. The plus side of this is that the street version will be every bit as capable as the race version. Erik also mentioned that this will unfortunately mean that the street version will be more expensive than the race bike. It seems to me that his initial goal is merely the homologation required for the AMA. However, in my opinion, this is a good first step for a true sportbike company, and if this all leads to more racing success, then public demand for Erik Buell Racing bikes is created.

I don't see how the EPA will allow that.

Will be hard to sell enough to homologate at that rate.

A stripped down, EPA compliant, street bike MORE expensive than the race bike?

Who would buy that?

Elvis - thanks for the link, I'll check it out. $7.50 sounds good to me : )

"The FIM is not going to let Erik Buell Racing run a triple with anything close to 800cc in world supersport."
But if it's 675 or less... : D

+1 what Toecutter said. That's pretty much how I understood what I heard Erik say.
Take a look at the Erik Buell Racing site, they're selling off a fair few standard "take-off" 1125 bits which could give some indication what they're up to.

"I don't see how the EPA will allow that."
Obviously a street 1190RR will have to be quieter and emissions compliant, and therefore down on hp to a race version. Somehow I don't think there will be an 1190RR for California . What it will mean is a street 1190RR with chain drive, big piston forks, ZTL2.5 brakes, and that great bodywork : D

"Will be hard to sell enough to homologate at that rate."
Note that the AMA does not specify any quantity of street bikes to be eligible for homologation, only that it is a street bike. I'm assuming Erik Buell Racing could negotiate an appropriate number with AMA. 25? 50?

How many 1125RR's were being built? 50?

The 1125RR was homologated under the 1125.

Who would buy a true race-bike with lights?

. . . as opposed to the streetbikes that look like race-bikes that most manufacturers sell . . .

I'd say there are enough people out there with enough money to snap up what is likely to be a very limited number of extremely exclusive and uniquely unique bikes in the first year's production.

Roll up to your local watering hole on one of those and you'll have the attention of everyone who knows anything about bikes.

It'll be a "must-have" for people like Jay Leno and Tom Cruise. I'll probably have to wait a while, but I don't have any doubts that once the production line starts it will keep going until they reach the kinds of volumes that will make it affordable for me.

Think about the 1190RR initial production vs the $40,000 1098R.

The 1098R looks like and shares many components with the relatively common 1098, 1098S, 1198, 1198S (not to mention the 848) and there are at least 3000 of the actual 1098R's out there.

Next to the 1190RR, the 1098R will seem comparatively tame and common.

Nah, it'd never sell...

851 Tricolore

RC30

ZX7RR

There have been a few times when I've come close to buying a race track refugee, but the timing or money have always been wrong. If I was in the market for a $40,000 street bike (I wish!), the 1190RR would be pretty appealing - rare, unusual, raw, incredibly focused, and waaaaaay more capable than I am.

So how do we get Erik Buell and/or Geoff May and/or an 1190RR on to Jay Leno's show?

A true enthusiast like Jay as an investor/pertner in Erik Buell Racing would also be cool.

I didn't see Jay this last weekend. He's not there every weekend but with the weather here as mild as it's been the last few weeks, I'm sure I'll see him.

I think he has Firebolt but I've never seen him on one.
