the following from comments on a scientology article on yahoo.

"The belief that a walking dead Jewish deity who was his own father although he always existed, commits suicide by cop, although he didn't really die, in order to give himself permission not to send you to an eternal place of torture that he created for you, but instead to make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh, drink his blood, and telepathically promise him you accept him as your master, so he can cleanse you of an evil force that is present in mankind because a rib-woman and a mud-man were convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree. -- Anon.

Thanks, Hootowl. I spent a little time on that, and prayed on it.

I am always trying to show that religion doesn't have to be pushy or overbearing. It's a point of view and a way of life which is very rewarding for me.

Comically absurd fiction.

It is disappointing and truly disheartening to see fellow souls choosing to embrace such intellectually dishonest, flippant mischaracterizations of the Christian faith. It seems to indicate an openly hostile disrespect for adherents to the faith. Not very nice.

Unfortunately ignorance is all too fashionable among the self-appointed intellectuals, elitists and anti-Christian bigoted crowds.

Ignorance sucks.

Dishonesty sucks.

Bigotry sucks.

I wonder what portion of professing activist atheist elitists or those professing to "seek enlightenment" also reject the possibility of any type of spiritual existence, or non-corporeal forms of life?

Revelation is a wondrous thing. It usually doesn't just happen.

A true quest for enlightenment demands 100% honesty. Lacking 100% honesty, it's just more intellectually dishonest bullshit.

Why not sincerely pray for the revelation to you of truth? It worked for me. It worked for Saul. It works for any soul who sincerely, honestly seeks it. What are you afraid of, losing a debate? Having to admit you were mistaken?

Can anyone honestly answer that question? Why not sincerely pray to God for revelation of truth? Anyone?

Try it every day for a year. I dare you.

God, our father/creator in heaven, I pray that you reveal to me truth, the truth of your existence, your will, and your word.

What do you have to lose other than a few seconds of meditation time?

Ever actually read, in a sincere scholarly fashion, the New Testament Gospels of the Bible; Mathew, Mark, Luke, John?

Why not?

Ever study the philosophical lessons taught or acted out by Jesus as reported in the New Testament of the Bible?

Why not?

What do you have to lose?

http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/index.shtml#matthew

What might you have to gain?

At worst, knowledge.

That said...

quote:

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Which one of you would hand his son a stone when he asks for a loaf of bread, or a snake when he asks for a fish?

If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him.

Atheism's Beginning:

In the beginning there was nothing.
Nothing was stable.
Nothing became unstable.
Nothing became so unstable it exploded and everything came from nothing exploding.

An atheist lived a life of careless abandon and debauchery knowing that, in the end, nothing would matter.
One night he had a dream that he was in a room with ten strangers.
Somewhere that he could only describe as "above" was what he could only describe as a "sentient presence".
The presence spoke to them. Well not really spoke but...

"How many of you are religious?"

Nine people raised their hands.

"How many of you think you are the smartest person in the room?"

The atheist raised his hand along with a few others who had declared they were religious. He knew that made him the smartest in the room.

The presence, "You are not even in the top ten."

The presence then singled out the only person in the room who had not raised a hand either time.

"You say you are not religious yet you have been kind, caring and courteous to everyone you meet."

"Well you see I'm and agnostic and I don't know if there is an afterlife but I figure if there were it wouldn't hurt to behave as if there is."

After a pause to allow that thought to penetrate the minds of everyone in the room, the next communication came from the presence, "That, people is the smartest person in the room."

Addressing the atheist, "By the way, this is not a dream. You died and this is the beginning of the after life. Since you have never been concerned with an afterlife or the idea of a higher being you should have no problem with being reincarnated as an amoeba."

The End
(of a new beginning)

Here's a little light reading for people who need or perhaps would like a reality check.

It is very thought provoking, regardless of your political slant, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or brand of motorcycle.

The author terms it "a thought experiment". Many of you will recognize the name Scott Adams, the creator of the Dilbert comic strip. This is something completely different, to spin your nugget around and put a new shine on it.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you God's Debris, by Scott Adams

It's 131 pages, but it reads very quickly and I think everyone can get something out of it. It was distributed for free on the author's website, and it's available all over the internet. I'm surprised more people haven't read it, it's very good.

Religion in public schools

instead of teaching Religion in schools, why don't we try teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic? Those are the areas that we seem to be falling behind on!

I personally think Religion should be taught from home and in whatever church you choose to worship at.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — A prominent hard-line Iranian cleric who said promiscuity and immodest dress cause earthquakes says God may be holding off on natural disasters in the West in order to let people sin more and consign themselves to hell.

Kazem Sedighi sparked widespread derision with his pronouncements in a prayer sermon last month linking earthquakes with women's dress. In a new sermon Friday, he has defended and elaborated on his claim.

Sedighi notes that some might ask why there aren't more earthquakes and storms striking Western nations that are "up to their necks" in immorality.

He says the answer is that God allows some of those who "provoke His wrath" to continue sinning "so that they (eventually) go to the bottom of Hell."

+1
Religion in public schools

I think they need to focus on creating an environment for learning, not a fashion show, or a gang show.

math, reading and grammar should be a priority.

disipline is one thing that has gotten lost in schools thru the years.
kids do not respect anyone anymore.
some kids need to be left behind, far behind becuase their ass is dumb for school and it holds back the reast of the smart kids

Too bad Vocational Tech isn't around any longer.
There are some people that aren't built for the "higher education" but are very well suited for a trade.

High school general curriculum can hardly be considered "higher education".

They practically give diplomas away these days. I had to fight tooth and nail to acquire space in AP classes for both my sons, EVERY YEAR, because they had to test IN and maintain ALL their grades at a 3.5 or better in order to QUALIFY for the advanced classes.

Space in those higher learning classes is very limited, even in affluent communities. Kids are not being taught much at home when both parents are off furthering their careers instead of MOM staying HOME where she belongs. With the children.

Yeah, I said it.

Having kids is a struggle, but it is not an inconvenience as some parents seem to think.

You made the choice to have the kids, now deal with it. Someone needs to be AT HOME to raise them and deal with the schools, the rides to and from activities or whatever.

And before anybody tries to flame me for that, I'll gladly lay out the details on how I personally dealt with it.

If an idiot like me can pull it off, ANYONE can. Life is work.

Edited for misspelling, because I care.

I think a lot of people would agree with you there, myself included.

In an ideal world, that would be the case. Cold fact is, lots of people can't afford to not work.

I know several working moms who would quit working today if they could afford to only have one income, and cite reasons remarkably similar to what yours probably are. Kids deserve to be raised by their mothers, not the minimum wage teenager at the local day care center.

True that pzn and hoot. My moms stayed home for 17 years to raise me and my younger sister...

and put us into enormous debt because of it. But her and pops say they wouldn't have done it any other way. We turned out pretty good...hell I could be on a Japanese bike...such a tragedy.

Guess I should have been more clear.
Some people aren't cut out for college, therefore Vocational Tech should not have been taken out of high school.
I know it's still in some high schools, just not around here.

I'm with you Matt.
Having children ain't easy, but the pay off is very worth while.
ALL my boys did exceptionally well in high school.
I have two in college now, and the youngest one just aced the AP exam.
My middle got the highest SAT score for his class.
My oldest (like his dad) had to learn the hard way, he's just starting college.
Stay at home Moms rule!
She didn't get to stay home the whole time, but a major part.
We didn't count on the public school system either, we home schooled along with the public system.
We are very proud of our boys.
