Likely that HD will be owned by someone else, hopefully Buell , by this time next year. OH THE IRONY that would be! |

How is that not a conflict of interest? How could either board have her on? |

"I take it that you didn't attend the Harley 100th..." You mean the one that featured Elton John? That should have been a hint that all was not right in the H-D Head Shed. G |

Likely that HD will be owned by someone else, hopefully Buell , by this time next year. I was thinking that's what this years April Fools Day story would be. But the more I thought about it, the more 'looking backwards' it became. Erik Buell's style is definitely more towards looking forward. Looking forward! 1313 (Message edited by 1313 on May 02, 2010) |

I didn't go to the 100th concert downtown, I couldn't get tickets. They were sold out! I've seen Elton-John in concert a couple of times, he puts on a good show. |

I wanted to move to Tn. when I found out they had a mutton festival. It has been relabled to some other type of festival. I also attended it and I did not get the mutton that I was accustomed to in Great Britian in the 50's. I think it was in Murfresburoe or some such. They did have an interesting stew like substance that some old Mt. man told me his secret recepe was to go out early in the morning and shovel up all the fresh road kills and also shot some squirels for fresh meat. It was realy very tasty. I hope no one moves (including factory folks)to Tn. till after I retire and can afford to purchase a house before the prices skyrocket.Loverly state, lovely whiskey, lovely riding, lovely folks. |

They have a complete workforce, management and union, as motivated as they can get them by telling them "there's no assurance you'll have a job here in the future and we're considering leaving Milwaukee". This is a really interesting point, because, in management's ham-fisted effort to extort money out of Milwaukee, and/or sell out to the highest non-Milwaukee bidder, they are basically telling their workforce: "We don't need you. You aren't a valuable part of this company and your dedication, knowledge, experience and love for these motorcycles is meaningless to us. We can hire any idiot to do your job." That's not good management. You can bet Erik Buell wouldn't send that message to the people working for him. Harley used to be, not all that long ago, a company that was something of a model of management and labor working together toward a common goal. How things have changed. It seems like there's not much left of the elements that made Harley a special company a few years back. |

Erik's former workers were not unionized, and have never held the company hostage with strikes and walkouts. Can you say that of HD's workforce? Loyalty? Yeah, to the almighty dollar. |

Somehow, Erik's insistence upon one part doing several jobs in order to reduce the part count would be applied to the corporate structure. Man I'd like to see a fit and trim HD under Erik's hand. THAT would be a sight to see. |

>>>>Man I'd like to see a fit and trim HD under Erik's hand. In addition . . . there are some REALLY talented folks at HD who are paralyzed with fear at the moment. The manta now has nothing to do with making a meaningful contribution, it's "just don't get canned". Erik would weed the garden and let the sun shine on those talented folks. |

Erik would weed the garden and let the sun shine on those talented folks. Might find that there is not much left in the garden but dirt... This is all a ploy just like Mercury Marine did in Fon Du Lac a few years ago to get union concessions and state tax breaks. Then the next year the executives took a nice fat bonus. personally I would love to see some other bike company be the image of America as opposed to HD. Maybe it would be a new Buell company or even one of the upstart electric firms. HD probably won't leave or die, but maybe a good bankrupcy and significant downsizing of corporate bums would make it a company worth being proud of again. They need a willie G part II, because right now they are worse then AMF. |

This is how patriotic HD is. During the first Gulf War HD went on strike. So what you say? Well HD, at the time, made bomb casings for the war effort. They used this to leverage whatever they wanted at the time. Elvis nailed it. |

We seem to forget that companies have a life cycle: The BEST thing that can happen to HD is for new ownership to step in and give it new wings. This is what happened post AMF. I believe they will call these new days post Wandell. |

>>>>This is how patriotic HD is. During the first Gulf War HD went on strike. So what you say? Well HD, at the time, made bomb casings for the war effort You need to have your facts straight, during that strike, casings were shipped and parts for military bikes were shipped also. The last strike/lockout was not the Unions fault! The Company told Union Employees one month before the strike that they needed to cut 10,000 bikes from the first quarter’s production. The MOCO made the Union strike and was able to cut 10,000 bikes by being off/locked out for three weeks and blaming the whole deal on the Union |

I used to have the news paper clipping but I am sure you are correct. I remember seeing a couple of dirt bikes that was contracted by the military or just straight out bought. NOT Harley. What did the Harleys that the military used (in the Gulf War) look like? |
