Who cares what this guys says? He's got a personal problem, not a legitimate gripe. I do think turn about is fair play, however. Can anyone here please inform me as to how and by what topics I may malign this poor woodsman?
Well, he's the slow fat little brother, who had his Kawasaki riding butt handed to him by Danny last year...beyond that what can you say? Kid's got an inferiority complex that he deserves.
Yep, Greg. I did. It was a good article. My only concern was one that set off a few people around these parts: it wasn't good journalism.
This does not mean that I felt it inaccurate or lacking credibility. Steve Anderson is a very, bright, credible person
What it does mean is that, 1. It was written by an ex-Buell employee 2. It was written by a friend of Erik's 3. It was written by an ex-CW staffer 4. The other side of the story was missing.
Should it have been written? Absolutely!
Re: My "hate" comment. I wrote this, in part, because I get a perverse pleasure from seeing some foam at the mouth.
More seriously, I have talked with many who were/are not Buell fans. But, I've never spoken with anyone who truly "hates" the brand. In fact, anyone who "hates" a motorcycle ...think about that... would be one that I distance myself from. This has nothing to do with my affinity for motorcycles but, rather, my concern for the mental health of someone who invests that type of emotion in an inanimate object. And I don't believe Dean Adams "hates" Buell. What he hated (I really dislike that word), in particular, was DMG's Moto-ST class. He was unfair in his critique, and told him so. Did he hate Buell the man, Buell the motorcycle? Nope?
And I also believe, folks, that dissing Roger Lee is a bit silly. Yeah, I understand the cathartic effect of something like this, but he has earned the respect of the racing community, if not yours.

Oh come on now Mr. Mushman. I know your bigger then that..... don't we??? lol
No, Badweb is not above mudslinging nor should it be. Passions are worth defending and there is too much guff being passed along as fact about Buell. Story of our lives! Join the fray man! Denigrate! Contest! Rebut! Insult! Expectorate!
I agree. Fortunately I think Anderson realized he was too biased to provide it with accuracy and stuck to what he knew. I also doubt he would have had much cooperation had he asked for more details from the "other side".
Not good journalism? Who am I to judge? However I expect that journalists often find it difficult to be objective when comes to other journalist's work.
Greg... All of which is true; none of which is good reason.
And you ARE the one to judge. If not you who? Journalism in this country has reached a sorry state because we have stopped demanding excellence. Unfortunately, we are getting the journalism that we deserve.
Here's a radical thought: (I'm not being cute here; this thought did occur to me. And I have nothing of evidence to back it up)
What if the reason Buell wasn't sold was because Erik (as result of contract) didn't want it so? If it was sold, he might have lost control of important aspects of the company/name. This is not necessarily apt, but recall Saleen. There are Saleen automobiles being built by a company that does not include Steve Saleen. In fact, Steve can't use his own name on the cars he's currently building. There are other examples of this out there.
The Buell name has a certain amount of equity. Were Erik to hook up with another company, and yet be unable to use his name ... that company might not be interested.
Ya know, it must be just a little bit more than weird for Erik to continually read how we all are designing is future life. Particularly when we're designing it around what we want. I don't believe there are any contributors to this forum that truly know what the man wants.
Reg, As I recall (I can't give a reference at this point) Erik's contract with H-D included his ownership of the name. Maybe that changed.

Yes, there is more to the story than has been told so far, and some of it will have to wait. What will come out will reveal that the decision made even less sense than as described in the CW story. Questions for the curious: what motivation would Harley departments have to inflate marketing and distribution costs for Buell motorcycles? Or tag additional overhead charges on to engine costs? Or how many Harley employees who were being billed full-time to Buell marketing and distribution were terminated with the Buell closure? The last would be a good analyst question today at the quarterly report Q&A.
