I call BS on the bulletproof Shoei though. That was just some dude trying to justify the $600 he paid for a $250 helmet.

The thing about the NR750 was it didn't perfrom as well as Honda had hoped for. I remember reading tha magz and they all basically said the hype was not in the machine. It turned out numbers that were similar to standard V4 motors.

Contrary to what is stated above, BMW did NOT discontinue building boxers in 1986. They discontinued the 1000cc boxers but continued building the 800cc and 650cc twins. Customer demand brought back the 1000cc twin, and everyone who THOUGHT they had a "Collector's Item Final Edition" 1000cc boxer twin was given a free Schuberth-made BMW System II helmet as compensation.
A tidbit about the Honda oval piston. In '87 I went to Honda to train the engineers on use of FEA tools. I got to see the development shop. An amazing place.
One of the most interesting challenges they had was to engineer and produce an oval piston ring. The challenge was to get even sealing around the ring circumference. The answer was to create a ring that had an alloy variation around the circumference.
