I received a call from my local dealer tonight asking if I would be interested in purchasing their entire lot of inventoried parts. I am meeting with the dealer on Saturday to go over the parts lot and then decide if I want to do the deal. The offer is dealer cost + 20% off. All total I am looking at about $6k in parts for 1/8th of that price. Should I do it? | ||

Well of course I will offer the badweb community first dibs at the risk of being branded a "rape and pillager" of the Buell Brand. I don't know what all is in the lot yet. I will have a full inventory on Saturday afternoon and will post up what I find. My buddy came across a deal like that when Indian went under. We filled my full sized pickup 4 times with Indian parts, clothing, all kinds of stuff. He made a ton of money off of it. A lot of stuff sold on Ebay, so it was a lot of trips to the post office, but he says it was worth it. | ||

Good question Piotr12, I am going back to the dealer on Monday to get the remaining parts list. They didn't have everything gathered up for me. As per the usual with HD dealers, one person told the other person to do it and well that person says otherwise. Anyway, I will get the SM nailed down and see what is available. | ||

I would push them for cost plus 5% or 10%. They are still making money and obviously they don't want to have to work to get rid of them, so you kind of have them by the short hairs. If they were staying as a Buell service center, they would not be looking to sell off the entire stock, so you know they are not doing it to offer you a good deal. Since they obviously are not staying as a Buell service center, do you care an very much about whether you rake them over? | ||

Funny you should mention the signage, I have requested the Buell Racing display, the one that puts the bike over at lean with the Buell banner in the back ground in a half moon shape. I also asked for any and all Buell related accessories, stickers, books, etc.... We will see what they come through with. | ||

price is much, much too high. Don't forget that you won't be able to sell these to Harley/Buell dealers because you won't be on the net. It will take a long time to sell them. Some won't sell at all. 50% off dealers cost is the right number. | ||
