I think we are about to see what happens when the government tells people how to run their business Good-bye Fritz. Hello bankruptcy. |

Fritz Henderson was a genius. GM, like HD, is now in the hands on someone with no experience . . Only difference he is an Obama appointee. We'll see . . All rumor at this point. |

Wow, this dude is dodging almost every question with "more will probably be available later". I never took much note of what was going on with GM is the first place. The way I understand this, Obama put Fritz in charge, and the board just kicked him out? ~SM |

quote:In the midst of enjoying some excellent product events out here in Los Angeles, news has just broke that CEO Fritz Henderson is stepping down. GM Chairman and former AT&T CEO is giving a live press conference right now stating that he will take over as Chairman and CEO of General Motors until a new CEO can be found. Details surrounding Fritz's exit from the company are unclear and unannounced at this time. The only comment out of GM is that Fritz and the Board of Directors met and felt that it is best for him to resign from the company
I lack details, so I can't cast my usual GM fanboy spin. I will keeping an eye on GMinsidenews.com |

I'll bet Mr. Henderson walks away with more in severance pay than I get in ten years. Here's a punchline in search of a joke: "Saab story". |

Give me Bob Lutz. .. problem is, like Henderson, these guys wouldn't dream of working under these conditions. If the best you are allowed to do is "mediocre" . . they have no interest |

Bob Lutz is the only reason the company is in as good of shape as it is in today. Hell, he even tried to bring over the Pontiac El Camino. |

Bob Lutz was also a key man behind one of my favorite cars- the Solstice. What happened to him? I've been under a rock as far as GM news... |

He is currently the Vice Chairman of Global Product Development. Back in February he announced he was going to retire in April because he didn't want to build Pelosi-mobiles. He came out of retirement back in July. |

the only aspect of the GM deal that resembles the Harley/Buell thing...is when GM closed Pontiac and refuses to slide the G8 or the Solstice over to any other brand in the GM lineup. The G8 is a world beater of a sedan and it is a shame that they are doing away with that car. |

So, let me get this straight. Chevy is betting the farm that sales of the overpriced, overdue and forgive me but there is history here with GM, underdeveloped Volt and the me too and too late Cruze will save the company? Am I missing something? And if I were GM, this would keep me up at night: http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/02/2011-ford-fiest a-for-america-revealed-hits-40-mpg/ |

I think the Volt looks to be an interesting car. I might buy one when it comes out. Im not sure until I drive it but I like the concept. |

The Aveo's replacement gets 40mpg too. The Chevy Cruze, which is larger and competes with the Focus, will also get about 40mpg in some trims.

The solstice was dead regardless, 2012 was scheduled to be its last model year. The G8 was in a similar boat, fickle American's don't want a large RWD performance sedan. See sales of its main competitor, the Charger. Another factor against it is Obama's new fuel economy standards. There is going to be a police version of the longer wheelbase version of the G8, so you could pick one of those up in a few years. The Camaro is built on the same Zeta platform, so you can go grab one of those too. Needless to say, I am still pissed about the pickup. |

"fickle American's don't want a large RWD performance sedan." Hm. The Ford Taurus SHO seems to be doing pretty well (though it's AWD, not RWD). ~SM |

>>>Hm. The Ford Taurus SHO seems to be doing pretty well (though it's AWD, not RWD). Huh? I've seen two or three new Tauruses on the road, none have been SHOs. It's a good car that does great in the magazines - that doesn't mean anyone is buying it. The G8 was the same - did awesome in magazines and the writers couldn't understand why they weren't selling. And I don't think we need to get into an argument of how a FWD, or even an AWD is completely different in terms of driving characteristics than a RWD car. |

Fickle American's may not want a RWD performance sedan from GM (or Chrysler), but they sure have bought a helluva lotta BMW's that are RWD performance sedans. You just have to build one that lots of people want, and will pay a premium for. GM is in such a hole with image that just making a very good car at a fair price is not enough to get them back in a strong position. |
