Ok folks, give me some help here...

If I want to explain the current Buell situation and why it's *not right* to people who don't understand Buell, I need some analogies to make it clearer. There's a couple of examples I can think of...

1. The obvious one is AMF. Imagine if in 1981 Beals and Co made the offer to AMF to buy out H-D, and AMF said "No, we're shutting H-D down", there would be no 45° twins now...

2. Say H-D had bought Performance Machine a few years ago and they started selling their brakes etc through H-D dealers. A few years later they decide they want to go back to their "core accessories brand" (Sceamin' Eagle) and decide to shut down Performance Machine, and effectively freeze the patents and technology associated with them...

3. Say a big brewery (Budweiser?) bought Jack Daniels... Then decided they wanted to get out of the whiskey market, they shut J-D down... and locked away the recipes...

Got any more examples?

Yes, I'm thinking of H-D riders mainly. Some will never understand, but some could become supporters for Buell if they can see things in a way they relate to .

cheers,
chili

The really hard part is trying to explain to someone who doesn't have the "family-feeling" that we do about the company. You have to use something near and dear to them to make the point.

My girlfriend is a prime example. I explained it this way to her:

She lives with me with her two cats, which she loves dearly. I tell her that times are tough and I can't afford the miniscule amount of money it takes to make sure one of the cats has enough water to drink, so we have to get rid of it in order to stay out of bankruptcy. But I'm not going to find a new, loving home for the cat - I'm going to fill the bathtub with the precious water I'm trying to save and drown it, and then toss it in the woods.

My good friend and former Bueller thought it was a very fitting example. My girlfriend, on the other hand, got REALLY pissed at me, lol.

You have a girlfriend. You love this girl more than any woman on the planet. She is exactly the perfect woman for you. You want to spend the rest of your life, forsaking all other women, with this woman.

Now imagine when you go to visit her at her house. You find out that her father, who you've always felt was a little off, didn't really care for his daughter the way you felt was appropriate, and who really would rather you not come to the house, has taken your girlfriend outside behind the house and has beaten, raped, and murdered your girlfriend.

The really sad part is that your girlfriend's father said he did it so that he could concentrate on loving and taking care of your girlfriend's sisters. In stead of allowing your girlfriend to move out and be cared for by people who wanted her, your girlfriend's father decided it was better to kill her.

Later you find out that your girlfriend's father really hated her and wished she had never been born.

That sum it up?

"Its whiskey,Jim Beam is Bourbon."
Corrected now : )

Jack Daniels is universally known here as bourbon. If you say whiskey here, people always think of scotch, eg Johnny Walker. Yeah, Australians are, well, Australians...

FB... Well, it is one way to illustrate the point... maybe a little harsh, but I get your point! The cat analogy is so much more wholesome by comparison...

That's ok. There are people in TN who fancy livestock as well. : D

To be labeled "Bourbon whiskey", you have to be made in Bourbon County Kentucky. You also can't be charcoal filtered. For these two reasons alone, Jack Daniels is called Tennessee Whiskey. On all other counts Jack is made like any other Bourbon, and tastes similar.}}

FB - I said Australians, not Kiwi's!

I'd be more than happy to make a trip to the Boiler Room for sampling : D

Thanks Diablo1. I knew the name of the place of origin applied to certain wines, but didn't realise it applied to whiskey's too.

Try to pass that by a seasoned Whiskey or bourbon drinker??? I have quite a few. Thats an argument I'd rather not have. lol

I was thinking more of the online discussions we're having on facebook etc.
Even after riding a Buell, some people won't get it, but maybe if I can compare it to something they are as passionate about, eg harleys, cats, girlfriends, bourbon or whiskey : ), they might understand?

Technically, Bourbon is Whiskey, but not necessarily the other way around. Whiskey is the type of drink. There are different types - Bourbon, Irish, Scotch...

Personally, I like 'em all!!! I'm down for some sampling!

See you all in June! Buell is not a dead kitty. That's our new credo - BUELL IS NOT A DEAD KITTY!!!

Sorry, a bit riled up. But seriously, that's the new modo. Get the t-shirts goin.

With Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer brands, you pouted for a minute and then walked over to the Chevy, GMC dealer and bought the same products with different headlights.
