Uh, is that an AMC Hornet behind them? Their cool factor just plummeted.
So did mine for knowning what an AMC Hornet looks like. |

I thought you could stuff a great big V8 into a hornet. Though I do remember the scene where the "last of the V8's" was mentioned along with the supercharger with the clutch on the drive pulley.
Also note the lack of stupid lightning bolts and stars and assorted other things in bright colors on their leather. And lack of tassels or other fringe. |

I bought an old Motoport one-piece suit from a co-worker for 100 bucks.
I never wore it because of the grafix.
While I was waiting for BMC to start building and ship my 1125R to me, I had an idea.
I put black leather dye in my air-brush and sprayed it down.
All black now, I wear it often from Fall to Spring.

This car is Ford Falcon XB sedan, 351 V8 engine, probably a 1974 model. Victoria Police Interceptor. Made in Australia. |

I spent the day yesterday out riding in my new leathers...I felt a lot safer than in jeans and a jacket for sure.
The Trackskinz fit pretty well and are a great value for the price... |

The dye is holding up to the weather quite well.
The suit has a few scuffs on the right shoulder and elbow that blue is showing thru.
I had a 20mph lowside on Loretta last year while wearing it.
It did its job well.

So... what kind of leather dye are we talking about here... I've got a red monkey suit that I'd love to turn black! Is there a special brand name or should I just go to a leather shop and tell them I want to dye my suit?
Also, could I just use a sponge or something or would the sprayer be the best way to go? |

Some guys questioned my use of a back protector at Jennings last month. About an hour later a 50 mph high side answered that. I had no broken bones and my only remaining injury is a slightly sore right hand/thumb. The CF knuckle guard on that glove hit so hard it's almost completely delaminated. My leathers bear an imprint of said protector and my suit got scuffed nearly everywhere.
On the street I don't wear as much. I use a dual sport helmet, a Joe Rocket Riot jacket, and if I'm not wearing jeans I use a set of Icon Leg Armor pads. Foot and hand protection is important to me...so good boots and gloves are always a priority. During the short Florida winter I use my battle-worn Teknic jacket.
On the street these days I only take slow corners fast. I keep the fast stuff reserved for the track. |

My pal Stretch is the guy underneath the Power Rangers Suits in the TV Series.
No sh*t - they make it here in Auckland and he's the Stunt man - does the stunts for our Magazine too. |

As far as dye, I dunno. Check at a boot shop or hobby shop
I used some I had from 20+ years ago.
My first wife did leather-work and I still have some stuff left over.
