After an !!! near highside yesterday...I stopped to think about my gear...I ride with a Buell adventure jacket (pretty dern good jacket) and a pair of Joe Rocket mesh pants...not so good for protection...

So...today I joined the Power Rangers crew...I ordered a 2 piece Trackskinz suit...which I needed anyway if I ever get around to going to Jennings for a trackday. : )

I will say that there is really no need for the "Look at me" graphics on most suits. A little bit of color or shape is fine, but whats with all the lightning bolts and stupid stuff like that. Also not at all a fan of the "speed hump" or "aero hump" for use on the road, wish it was more easily deleted.

Big fan of the backpro that most things are coming with as stock now, very important to have a good backpro, maybe more so than armor at any other point (except the head).

I'm a believer in the hump since my neurologist told me that is the ONLY reason I'm not paralyzed from the neck down after it spread the load of the bike landing ON MY BACK AND HEAD after a high-side.

I still spent 4 months in a wheelchair before I could even START physical therapy.

Speed humps work, and the included back protection in any suit I've seen isn't up to the task of much. Better off spending the money on a real hard shell back proctector. Teknic ones are cheap and work, I prefer the Alpinsars one I was, though it was twice the price.

The suit I bought is fairly subdued...black with silver trim...the same colors as my old Fieldsheer dragrace suit...which unfortunately is beyond further use...(Don't leave your suit hanging unattended in a bike trailer for a long period of time)....humidity will turn it into the suit version of a shrunken head......Oh well, I love the smell of new leather....and it will fit the newer, skinnier me.

But the pockets that hold the backpro can sometimes be used for the good backpro. And anything is better than nothing (well normally anyway).

I understand not wanting to look like a dork, but having bloody bandages taped all over your body looks even dorkier.

In reality, at the end of the day, I really don't care what people think about my clothes. Wear the best gear you can afford and screw 'em if they don't get it.

By the way, I've been looking at the Knox back protectors. They look to be top notch. Anyone using one?

I just want them to be made with less crap on them, why not a simple two tone or single color suit. I've been looking at the Cortech HRX 2 jacket and pants, and the white/black I kind of like. Stylish yet not screaming "Look at me, I'm a racer!". Now if it only came in long tall sizes... Bates is one of the few that understand this, but a bit out of my range right now. Some of the Dianese are OK too, but again up their at $1000+.

Several racer on another forum recommend the Knox backpro's as being the best of the best. Not sure which exact model they were using though.

My leathers are all black with some white trim. Not flashy at all.

Now, my Smurf blue and iridescent yellow Aerostich Roadcrafter does draw some stares.

Heres a reasonably priced suit that doesn't look too bad. I have an older model 2 piece Frank Thomas suit that is good quality, this one should be just as good, if not better.

Greg, Aerostitch roadcrafter 1 piece textile is about as boring looking as you can get. If there was another suit on the market that was just as awesome but also flashy, I would get it in a heart beat.

I really like the Dainese suits with the boots that go under the pants. If I ever get off my lazy butt and get down to the size/ weight I want to be at, that's what I'm gonna treat myself to one and do track days and such.

I picked up one of them when they were on sale a few months back. Its a good cheap suit, that about all the good I can say for it, as it pales in comparison to my Roadcrafter, but they are two totally different tools.

True and true, although the best back protector is one that straps to you, not your suit.

I wear an all black 2-pc leather suit from Teknic and a Teknic/Knox Ricochet Spine Protector like this guy:

I also hate the LIGHTNING BOLT STAR ARROW colorful suits, but I wish mine was gray or white just for the sake of heat.

It IS hard to get leathers and helmets without all the crap on them. I had to SEARCH for an Arai Corsair in blue - just blue, no fancy-schmantzy graphics, just blue.

You're right about leather graphics. Seems everybody wants lightning bolts, weird graphics. Sunny had a HELLUVA time finding BLACK Dainese.

AGV seems open to discussing the graphics issue, might be worth a whole bunch of us send them emails on the subject. They used to have a series of more plain suits, but most of that has been dropped for the "look at me" suits. Can't really say I have met anyone that has bought a suit because they liked the graphics (unless it is a factory special style).

Komodo seems to have more sedate graphics and Bates custom suits of course have none.

As I said I like the Cortech HRX2 colors, just wish I could get one that fit (or even an email back from them, got the autoreply after two days). The white and black scheme would look good on my white 9R.

Wish I had enough money for a nice custom sized suit, then I could pick the graphics the way I wanted them.

Sunny also teaches scuba and you just can't get BLACK gear anywhere. Same thing in wetsuits as the leathers.

She DID get as close as she could with Dainese - without going to custom leathers:

Slaughter, is she using the "in" style boots that go inside the pant cuffs? I can't see if they are in the pic, too much black on black on black.

If so, how doe she like them.

I'm sorry but this thread will have to end. There are no complaints about H-D pulling the plug on Buell and no political sniping.

Please rectify this situation or this thread will be unraveled.

Thank you.

Well I was going to buy one of the Buell armored mesh jackets for summer use, but those bastards at Harley killed them off and now it is difficult to find the thing.

Is that better?

She has boots OUTSIDE the leather legs... not inside. You're right, black-on-black is hard to tell.

They have some decent looking products and the graphics are decently plain. Tempted to get one of their combo packages of warm and normal suits. Kind of too bad they don't have a zip together two piece for their normal (with liner) suits.

Greg E, that's better.

There are decent looking leathers out there, but they tend to cost more than the weird stuff. I just sold mine (white and red) being as I don't use them anymore.

Time for me to show off my huge brain again. Those flashy gay leathers that somehow seem to be cheaper than the boring bland plain ones are cheaper for a reason. Many of those flashy ones are pieced together from scraps of leather. Pieces too small to work on a quality suit. Instead of tossing the off-cuts in the trash they just get some sweat shop slave to make suits out of them. Suits with seams all over them that are much more likely to fail than single pieces of dead cow skin.

I have a black one piece Roadcrafter that I paid extra to have built without reflectors on it. It's about as plain as you can get, offers great protection by using Knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, and back armour. Plus, it's waterproof.

Now to show off my not so huge brain. Hey Nut, I disagree, bloody bandages all over your body makes you look cool "and" tuff, not dorky.
