The second phase of my "BUELL, It's a beautiful thing" ad campaign would be "The beauty of the beast" ads.

Businesses need to advertise for the following four main reasons:

* To raise customer awareness.
* To remind customers about existing facilities.
* To persuade customers to switch from rival businesses.
* To improve and maintain the image of the business.

The ultimate aim of these points is to attract more customers. The places our business will advertise from depends on three things:

* Its audience.
* The size of their market.
* The size of their advertising budget.

True, sadly the only place I usually come across bike commercials of any kind is on the "speed channels" IMO if some budget was allocated to "mainstream" TV (even if it was just select local markets) I believe it would bring increased exposure and acceptance to the brand which would tip many a fence sitter and flush out the "closet biker". I love the pay cable bike ads but get that"this is hidden like a tobacco ad" feeling when I see them.

Reg, you ever heard of Art Bennett?
He has some issues with moto-ads as well.

Here's my idea (Buell is welcome to use it and I will publickly state they won't owe me a dime if they do): Opening shot of a guy gassing up a Hummer (or Lincoln Navigator or some other Stupid Useless Vehicle). Only sound is the "ka-ching ka-ching" of the gas pump.

Suddenly two riders on Buell Ulysses, fully loaded for camping, pull into the pump next to him. They remove their full face helmets and it is an attractive man and woman. They quickly fill both bikes, make small talk about stopping for the night 180 miles down the road and this fill up should be it for the night.

The two replace their helmets and ride off down the road. Once again, the only sound is the "ka-ching ka-ching" of the pump filling the SUV. The guy pumping the gas hollers over to his wife in the passenger's seat: "We oughtta get a couple of those!"

Fade out with the Buell logo on the screen...

Got the idea this past weekend. We were riding home from the Finger Lakes Rally in Watkins Glen, and my friend's Ulysses, with full luggage, and fully loaded for camping, went 177 miles before we gassed up, and his fuel warning light hadn't even come on yet! He took less than 3.5 gallons, too.

It was before my time here, but I think Buell attempted this with the Blast; advertising it where non-riding people would see it. Does anyone know?

Not to hijack this thread, but Reg if you are still keeping tabs below are a few clues to help you identify me.
Me on my S2 doing BattleTrax at the East Troy High School parking lot during a past Homecoming.

S2 BattleTrax

Maybe a better shot of the S2 will help. Here's a scanned shot you took of it for Battle2Win. I hope I don't get in deep doo-doo with the publisher for posting this scanned picture...

S2 in Battle2Win

Last clue, even though you should have me pegged by now, is from the Richmond H.O.G. Rally where I had fun with my V-Rod doing BattleTrax all afternoon.

V-Rod BattleTrax

Now I return this thread back to the topic at hand...

Jaimec, good idea, the only thing I would change, is the Uly's just riding by, not stopping for gas.

I was thinking that maybe one camera shot would show how much it cost to fill BOTH Uly's, vs. the continuing counting up of the pump fueling the Hummer. The idea is to show just how much cheaper it is to ride a motorcycle (especially a Buell) than it is to drive a Stupid Useless Vehicle in these days of $3.00 a gallon gas...

One more touch... the female rider should pull a big wheelie as she leaves the gas station...

Ok I figure with todays gas prices mention something about fuel economy would work well but that seems kinda boring.... Ok Video comercial pitch:
fly in shot through a canyon focussing in on a truck stop. (I know where one like this is.) A couple of guys are standing in line waiting to pay. They are discussing how much they just spent to fill up. As they discuss the cost the camera pans left to show a guy in his riding gear with a small grin on his face, he quietly pays his bill and walks out. As he mounts his bike the camera focuses on his trip meter and then on the display of the pump.
The camera zooms out as the bike leaves and heads up the canyon.
Buell "Who knew fuel economy could be this fun?"

Just my 2 cents,
Fuy

A lady's version XB9(12)SCG.

Phase: "It small enough to control, big enough to keep up, now I just need to keep him off it!"

Picture the back of a helmet "swinging" back and forth like an upside down pendulum and the horizon line rotating/pivoting opposite of the helmet. Maybe a group of Buells, instead of just one? Of course the sound track would be a 12 (this time, unlike the 9 in the current commercial) rolling on and off the throttle and then the Buell accelerates quickly off into the distance around some curves. Do a quick shot of some "S" turn road signs (Own the corners). You could add a few side pic's of the bike, zoom in on the Buell logo on the "tank" etc.

I always enjoy the "on bike" videos, why not turn one into a commercial?

Well to me, the idea is not to preach to the choir (with action shots of the bike cornering) but to try and attract NEW riders to the marquee. Non-riders really don't know from cornering, torque, etc. Right now what they do know is how much they're getting KILLED at the gas pumps. Play up that one thing Buell has over every single other sportbike on the planet: Phenomenal gas mileage for a 1200cc bike! Have you checked the magazines for the gas mileage the other sport bikes are getting? Pretty dismal compared to our bikes. Even if the inflated EPA rating of 65mpg is pure fantasy I've seen real world numbers from my Buell of 52mpg after a long hard day of corner carving and high speed freeway blasting.

Two bikes at a light... The race replica leaves like he means it. There are two people on the Buell and you hear one say in their helmet coms that they know there's a place up ahead where cops hang out. The Buell just pulls away from the light.

Cut to a scene where they're carving up some canyons and catch up to the same race replica... You hear "I wish he'd just let us around." on the helmet coms...

"Own the corners".
