That's not what I was going after Bart... no need to laugh, I'm not an idiot.
I was wondering if maybe they were sucking oil through the valve guides and causing your oil consumption. My assumption was that you're probably using the total seal gapless rings. I've heard that they work great for a race application, but to use them on the street you need to use only one and use a normal ring on top. |

i sure did get wet! it poured! i got soaked going from the race track to where we stayed in ashland! i swore i would'nt go next year cause of the rain but i've cooled off since then i'll probably only go for saturday and sunday next year as i'm buying a new business next year and will have to put in a lot of hours.
i am pulling the tranny apart this winter, i feel i must. i've had a problem with it for the last 10k miles, it works well enough to ride so during riding season i don't dare mess with it. i may yank my swingarm as well and paint it black. i really like the subdued look. the engine has been running strong for 4k. i do have a weepy rear cylinder base gasket, bah!!!
depending on how much the tranny fix is gonna cost me i might have some headwork done, a friend of mine just bought a dyno machine, i hope to get a couple pulls in next week which i'll post in kv. if i can get the head work done i'll post dyno's of 1250 w/race kit, then 1250 w/race kit and headwork, then with cams and mikuni next! i'm really hoping to see upper nineties with my current configuration and upper teens with the headwork cams and mikuni! i don't dare to hope i'll get over 120 w/ that set-up, i'm sure the nrhs shop mule has a lot of time and money invested to get the 124 they post. i'll be ecstatic if i can get over 110 with headwork cams and mikuni. i'm still on the fence about upgraded rockers it's not mentioned a lot but everyone seems to have them in motors that are producing over 100hp, i'll have to do some research, i will post in the appropriate kv for info when the time comes. |

Food for thought, I had roller rockers in my 74" motor that has major head work and Knight Prowler .630 lift cams, and a worked Sreamin' Eagle CV-44 with the Screamin' Eagle intake. I had some problems with the cylinders when I blew a head gasket, couldn't figure the problem and ended up taking the bike to a performance shop up in Maryland to fix (American Pro Street Cycles). John, the owner of the shop, who used to be one of the lead techs up at Zippers, had me pull the rollers back out and put the stock lifters back in as he said this will actually give me just a slight bit more lift than the rollers, which in turn will boost my hp. After he and his team got done with all of the tricks in my heads and carb/intake, keeping the KP .630 lift cams, he showed me an after tune dyno run of 101 rwhp and 108 ft/lb torque. He also went on to say that the rollers don't actually "roll", but they glide back and forth over the valve stem and, over time, wear a groove in the end of the stem. Not sure at what rate this occurs, but I've got a set of rollers that I took back out and my X-1 runs like a raped ape!! |

Bart,
I understand that your engine kit vendor recently stepped up, and rebuilt your engine himself and all is well. All's well that ends well!  Kudos to Aaron for stepping up and supporting his customer.

yes Blake,
The engine kit vendor, (NRHS) or Aaron, did step up and make everything alright and then some. The bike is running great, no leaks, no knocks, and no oil usage.
I won't go into details, but I am VERY HAPPY with the results and the treatment I received from Aaron and the guys at his shop. they are all good people that look out for the customer.
I will definitly be going back with one of my other Buells when the time comes.
