Anyone know where I can get a larger counter shaft sprocket? I know that by going to a slightly larger sprocket, I will loose low end torque, but as my bike puts out 108 ft/lbs at the rear wheel, I don't think that it will affect me that much. I just want to get a little more top end and keep it hidden in the process.

Just get a 29 tooth sprocket from your dealer or one of the sponsors. Stock on some Sportsters and maybe S2's as well.

The "TUBE FRAME BUELLs" can run the same COUNTER
SHAFT SPROCKETS as the SPORTSTERs do ...

Got one for my BUELL from some supplier, BUT can not remember which one ???

Shop around for the largest and buy it as it
like puting in a SIX SPEED(econo model) ...

I know that there is a 29 tooth front pulley available for the secondary drive. What I need is a countershaft sprocket, which is for the PRIMARY drive. As a few of you heard my bike at Lavale, the extensive motor work with the stock ratios I end up with gobs of torque and HP. I am willing to loose some of that to get just a bit more on top, where I run out of rpms (7k rpms gets there quick!!), so by changing the countershaft sprocket on the engine (not the tranny) I decrease the torque output slightly, but theoretically I increase the top end mph. This is just for testing and playing around purposes anyways.

The countershaft sprocket on the engine?

There is no sprocket on the countershaft, in the primary or transmission.
The sprocket on the engine is called...
(wait for it)
the engine sprocket.

Loose low end torque?
No, it reduces all torque.

If you're going to use technical terms - try to know what they mean first.

STAY ON THIS "BOARD" AND LEARN !!!

Countershaft sprocke(called SPROCKET,transmission in PARTS BOOK) works on TRANSMISSION MAINSHAFT ...

Engine sprocket(called so is PARTS BOOK) is on flywheel shaft on left side of engine ...

Learn? I worked for H-D in 1983 - what were you doing then?
One more time - there is no sprocket on the countershaft.

Panic,

First off, you comments opinions are not needed or warranted!!

Second, I never said that I would only loose low end torque. I know that I will decrease my overall torque output and have accepted that for my purposes.

Finally, for the term of the sprocket, I have heard it called a "countershaft sprocket" as well as the simple term of "engine sprocket". Either way everyone that has been replying knew exactly what I have been looking for, so again your smart a** comments are neither desired nor appreciated. Go to some looser squid board if you desire to start a flame war!!

Thank you very much!!

But back to the stated intention, wouldn't changing the front pulley of the secondary drive accomplish the same thing? And easier to install?

The countershaft rotates the opposite direction of the drive shaft and in our motors case, the crank shaft.
Hence the prefix "counter".
The countershaft lives in the transmission, not in the primary case.

The cute thing about changing primary ratios is that your speedo stays accurate. You're changing the engine RPM / tranny RPM relationship as opposed to the Tranny RPM / wheel RPM relationship. Mostly the same end result. Dunno if the speedo bit matters to anyone or not.

Why confused? Our "moderator" has, as usual, deleted my post (in which I complained of being abused, but without resorting to profanity), while leaving the abusive post (rude personal attack containing profanity) untouched.
Business as usual.
I don't think I want to provide any more factual information - at least not here.

Zoar, that is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

Sarodude, You hit the nail right on the head about the speedo staying accurate, hence the reason I want to change the "engine sprocket" as opposed the the tranny output sprocket. It is a bit more of a pain to change out, but saves you from that ticket when you are cruising and forget to do the math in your head later on deal.

"i" think you will find that the ENGINE SPROCKET is actually the front rear drive sprocket which
is called the countershaft sprocket although it
runs off the mainshaft ... Sounds like a lot of
"BUELLschitte", but "i" think you will find out
that's the way it is !!!

No, the engine sprocket is an engine sprocket.
How to tell?
Only the primary uses triple-row chain.

Only...

No, I think I'll wait and see what happens.

Some great information on this thread! Word of advice to all that read the technical threads:

If Buellistic gives tech advice you should cut and paste his comments into a self-made tech manual for your Buell. His accuracy is dead-nuts on -- I've never met him and we've never spoke, but I do have the vast majority of his technical posts saved.

LaFayette, Thank you.

Get over yourself.
The exact statement remains correct as posted, and referred specifically to the pictures on the linked site for an engine sprocket.
Or would you mind taking a moment out of your busy schedule and explaining which drive chain is triple row?
