i plan to do my forks when i get home. will be buying the fork compressor tool from american sport bike. I might get that tool, but i think a regular socket will work to set the seal. Please correct me if im wrong though.

Ordered the HIDs, thanks for the help guys!

Why is everyone on the fork rebuild rage? Unless they are leaking, why change them? These forks aren't being used to the extreme I have seen forks utilized and quite honestly you will be amazed at how clean the oil is in them.
Nobody in our group rides to such an extreme (pro-level) to really notice a difference...sorry it's true. Those recommended intervals for suspension are just that, recommended. I'm not trying to offend anyone but unless your bike has more than 35-40K miles, I wouldn't do it.
Just my 2cents and trying to save folks some money and headache. Forks are not easy to do and costly is you nick the sleeve...they will leak forever if you do it wrong.
I would send them out for a rebuild and NOT to Harley. Pro-Action or other fork builder. Way cheaper than Harley.

i plan on rebuilding my forks when i get home, or atleast in end of feb, first part of march. I want to get them painted, so i will be buying the tools needed. IF anyone wants to be there when i do it, let me know. But i will have to agree with goody, i dont see any real reason to change it at the 10k, ive got 18k on the bike and they still seam the same as when it was 10k.

i've brought this up before, but you could just buy a black set from the dealer for 600 (unless the price has changed) and then sell/keep your origionals. less down time and it may be cheaper.

The tolerances for getting powder coated forks back into the upper and lower triples will be little to none, even with the stock ones it is a very tight fit. You can wedge the triples open a little bit to get them in but will more than likely scratch them up a little bit.

Nilla, i have thought about buying new ones, but i see no reason to spend that sorta dough. if they get alittle scratched so be it, i ride the bike and its bounded to get scratch.

BTW, MERRY X-MAS!

Jimmy is correct on the powder coating of fork tubes. Those tolerances would be wayyy to tight, most fork tubes that have some sort of color to them are anodized I believe.

so in other words, i souldnt waste the time/money on it. Just to go ahead and buy the black ones. hmm, if thats the case, there goes the idea of powder coating the triple trees.

Thanks for the heads up/ input and knowledge!

You can power coat the triple triple but have the mating, thread and bearing surfaces masked off.

Myron, I would'nt powder coat the fork tubes but consider anodizing them. If you pry the triple trees open to fit powder coating you will compromise their strength.
Mike is correct you could powder coat the triple trees just not the insides which grip the tubes and cover all the bolt holes. I know of a place that will do it up here on the peninsula. TNT powder coating, they did my clutch cover. It looks good but insist that they cover ALL bolt holes and be prepared to chase the bolt holes with a tap if they blast it. I would consider anodizing and I'm going to do some research to find if anyone can do it locally. Merry Christmas ya'll

Frinzo...I found a few places here locally that will do anodizing. Probably your best bet so far.
Sorry to hear you will be leaving but being a retired military man, I know how it is.
Has anyone ever thought of making a business type card with HRH on it?

Just a thought. Goody

so $175 for about 3/4 inch lower?

(google says 20 millimeters = 0.787401575 inches)

seems pricey. do they have pics of the kit?
