Jody, Red River is about 200 miles from me so it would be 400 round trip and another 50 for the loop.

We can ride where ever. I will check with Lynn.

I tried to get the Altitude Riders to do something but it looks like a no go.

Yeah, I saw the enthusiasm over at AR. I've done a 500 mile plus ride before but it was exhausting. That was with Al from American Sport Bike last fall. As much as I would like to see the Red River area again, and some of the New Mexico gang, that might be too much for one day. If I stayed over night and rode back that would probably be ok.

As an alternate idea, I wouldn't mind heading up toward Buena Vista then crossing over either Cottonwood Pass or Independence Pass. If neither of those passes are open we could cross Monarch and check out that short loop you were curious about. Maybe some of it is paved.

FYI
all of you are making me totally jealous all of this riding.
i've spent every day that I have off work down in Denver working on my new house. I move in next week.

Once settled and I get a bit of riding in there will have to be a Buell BBQ so I can meet a bunch more of you people

Jody, I may be up for Buena Vista. I need to do some research up there but I may head out that way before Monday.

That loop is 350 miles starting from Buena Vista so it will be slightly more miles. I am sure parts of it are dirt road because I checked Monarch last time and nothing but dirt roads connect to it.

I know the dirt does not bother you but those will be some hard miles and most of them are above 8K feet.

We can play it by ear.

Vortec, congratulations on your new house. Once you get settled I am sure you will be making up for lost time.

This is a rare weekend for me. The Gov is taking Friday off and I cannot go into work so it is 4 days off. I gotta go some where. It is either that or rebuild two carbs which I need to do anyway,

Let us know when you are ready to ride and yes we need to get the CBR together for a BBQ or something.

July 26 or august 2. These were the dates I was thinking about having a Buell get together/BBQ. I picked a Sunday so Zac could come

How's that sound?

Jody, I may not be able to make it on Monday. I forgot that Lynn and I were supposed to go to ruggles house for a BBQ. I have not heard anything from him so I am playing it by ear.

Julie, both those dates sound good to me. I am sending you a pm.

Chasten, I'm on the west edge of "Denver" at 6th and Utica. A little further and I'd be in Lakewood real quick. Not the best part of town, but so far looks like it will be good.

Hey Julie I starting to plan the details of the trip for this August for the AMA Women's conference. Looks like 5 of us is coming out from Route 50 and I have a couple of questions for you or anyone else here in Colorado.
What is route 9 north like in August, from route 50 are there gas stations and how hilly or twisty, remote is it? I see on Google maps it goes thru some of Pike National Forrest. This would be a direct route for us from route 50 instead of going up to Denver and thru the city on route 70. Can you all help?

Its a great ride. No gas until you hit 24. Then 9 is a bit rough but not too bad up to Jefferson (no gas on that stretch either). The last 15 miles is new pavement. One of my favorite rides.

There are lots of twisties along Hwy. 9 after turning off of Hwy. 50. August is a very good month as all the winter sand and gravel is finally gone. The last ten miles before arriving in Hartsel are mostly straight and flat...and fast. There is one gas station in Hartsel and a great burger joint. Dusk and Dawn are always dangerous times for dear and there are plenty along Hwy. 9. The entire route between Hwy 50 and Hartsel is remote with little cell phone coverage. Traffic may pick up on weekends with cagers out sight seeing.

A short ways up Hwy 9 another road short cuts to the north east and gives one the option of heading to Cripple Creek or Florissant. It is even more remote but brings one out closer to civilization on Hwy 24 near Divide. Cattle frequently are found on this road, though, so be very careful. The road is called "High Park Road" but I've seen very few maps that mark it very well.

Cheers!

Babired, ask away. Lynn and I are planning on going as well depending on her schedule. It sounds like a good time and in an area with great roads.

When the time gets closer make sure you keep as apprised of your plans. If you need any thing make sure you let us the know.

Some things to check out while you are here is the Royal Gorge bridge, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods and of course the great roads.

Hi K

Lots of good info u were given. 9 is a scenic road and will take u right into Frisco. If the Dillon lake dam road is open u can take that to Keystone. There should be plenty of stations for gas. Coming up during the week there shouldn't be too much traffic.

Due to my work situation I'm not sure if I'll be going or not. I might try to get up there at least one of the days. It would be great to meet u

Nice profile pic, dog and gun!!: )

Julie

I stopped in Elizabeth and visited with ruggles and checked out his new Uly. He rode with me South until we hit rain in Elbert.

Glad you enjoyed the wet ride! ; )

The rain chances are slimmer in Salida and Buena Vista, were you still thinking of riding up there tomorrow? I might be up for it if the chance of sunshine is at least as good as rain.

Julie, I think I read a while back you were going to mount a camera to your bike. I remember looking at the web site but I did not bookmark it. Do you have the web site? If you got the camera can you tell me how you like it?

Thanks, Frank

Dan said it was a "gopro" camera. We do have mountings on both of our bikes so we can switch out the camera. It's actually fairly nice. We're taking a week trip with the RV and trailering the bikes in mid-July and hopefully will get some video of our trip. Skye is joining us so it will be a family affair. Hoping to get into Utah this year as well as all the twisties on the western slope.

Hope that helps but let me know if you needed other info on the camera.

No problem. I think I dodged the bad stuff. Being wet at 9,500 feet sucked but once i got back down to 6000 feet I started to dry out and warm up. Next time Jody.
