Buell's XB12X Ulysses is surprisingly good on the racetrack. This is Charlie Maike's bike, which he used to pass guys on much faster motorcycles. It broke a belt, but he was able to install a replacement before lunch and ride the rest of the day.

Hey I know that guy!

Yeah, he's the 3% official belt changer guy! I seen him do it.

Sleep is AWESOME! Especially after you haven't been able to do it for a while. Think you'll make it up to Suches for Buelltoberfest?? It wouldn't be the same without you.

Good to hear Bambi!!

I am hoping to be there to see you at Buelltoberfest... but the budget (financial, and time) are not looking so good for it at this time....

I rode in to work today sporting the new Lyndall Gold break pads up front... There is definitely a different feel to them. They are not as "grabby" as the stockers that I removed. I'm going to have to do a few panic break practices in the parking lot before I go home tonight... They feel like I would really need to grab a handfull before they would lock. So far I like them.

If you see a post this evening about me looking for some foot pegs and bar ends, you'll know I grabbed a bit too much! LOL.

Use the force young Jedi....

But really, if you do lock up the front just let go quickly, the bike will correct itself. I speak from experience.

I swear I am still buzzing from the ride on the Busa yesterday....cant get that blur of acceleration out of my head!

My front end's tucked and recovered a couple of times in the past few weeks. Once on the way to Tellico Plains, the woman in front of me braked unexpectedly coming into a corner, and I had to follow suit to avoid rear ending her. The second time was on the way to Oklahoma. I stopped for gas at exit 130 on I-20. The on ramp back to the interstate was a beautiful 270 degree constant radius turn with smooth new asphalt. I was making good progress around it when I hit something on the top of the ramp. I'm not sure if it was a pot hole or maybe a ledge where the new pavement met the old. Whatever it was, it hit hard while I was still leaned over, and it tucked my front wheel further into the turn. My butt bounced up off the seat, and I thought I was a goner! I did the only thing I could, which was stay in the throttle, and the bike righted itself.

What year was it? I will confess there are times out on the highway when I wish for some more horsepower and less vibration. I think I'd go for the Concourse 14 before a Busa, though.

It was an 08.

I like the concourse, touring with that big 1400 kawi motor would be SWEEET!

I can see it now, riding 90mph down the freeway, drop a gear and wheelie for a mile on a bike with full luggage! LOL!!

I have yet to lock up the front break for any reason... but I actually want to make it happen in a controlled situation (practice in a parking lot), so I can see what it feels like.
I locked my rear break up sumpin fierce a couple of months ago on my way to work.. left a 30 foot black streak down the street and about half way into the intersection at a red light, and about a 3 inch brown one in my pants!

After reading twist of the wrist a year or two ago, it made me feel better to learn about breaking practice. It basically said that the bike will react the same at 10mph as it will at 80mph if you lock it up in a straight line. And 10mph sure does a lot less damage.}

That book is what prompted me to go abuse my bike in a parking lot, practicing stoppies, panic stops etc... good fun and great for real world experience!

I've never intentionally locked up my front brake because of a TV spot I saw. It was a motorcycle school in California where they give you bikes that have outriggers on them to prevent them from hitting the ground. They then encourage you to lock up the brakes, lean into turns, or whatever else might make you nervous. They showed a guy intentionally locking the front brake, and it amazed me how quick the bike went down.

Locking the front is the only way to get the rear off'n the ground.

Matt, if you want we can do some parking lot exercises, it is not as intimidating if you see it done. The hard part is actually getting the tire to lock up without a spectacular stoppie!

In Europe to pass your motorcycle exam they have you run over a car tire and muffler at 55mph to ensure you can handle real world situations. This was from my brother inlaw in England in the 80's. Guess that's why they have you learn on 125's for 2 years as your first street bike. Wish they'd do something similar here with a step up system to riding larger/faster bikes. It'd keep alot of gomers from buying a 1000 cc Gixer as their first bike without any riding experience. Least my insurance rates might drop some, might even keep a few squids alive too...

Glad to hear you're feeling better Connie, God's speed in healing!

Now that is a freaking exam!!

I would not mind a tiered license system either, just think of all the great bikes you would "have" to own!

Sounds like fun. Maybe we can have an impromptu class at Buelltoberfest.

> Wish they'd do something similar here with a step up system

The british system really does produce some good riders. I've learned quite a bit from riding with a couple of them around here.

I have never been so offended in my life....

Pull up to BK to get lunch, girl tells her brother there is a bike outside, kid gets up, looks out the window and says, "thats not a bike, its a scooter, see the box on the back"

I wanted to slap that little shit so hard! I tried to tell the girl it was NO scooter but she was to dumb to listen, so I gave up.... Poor kid is gonna get his arse kicked one day...

Welcome back, Frogger. Buelltoberfest is the weekend after next (Oct 4,5). SMHD has some bad ass deals on 2008 1125R's right now, and Brad over there is selling his own TT cheap.
