Theres about a 1/2 inch of snow on the ground here in Aiken. where I come from we call this just a dusting, nothing to even think about. But I haven't seen snow in 2 years so its nice. I made the mistake of stopping by the grocery store tonight and its like pandemonium at the store!

The bread aisle , wiped clean, milk gone, Coke gone , Sprite gone, its madness. I heard about the stores being wiped clean of bread and milk but I never believed it, that is until now.

and to think I rode my bike to work today, and if there isn't any snow left on the ground tomorrow morning I'll ride it tomorrow as well.

Just something this northerner had to share.

Welcome to the south! The mere mention of the "s" word and you can't find bread, milk or softdrinks within 50 miles. We experienced the same thing when we moved from OH to NC.

Haha, same here, i used to live in Seattle, and the first time it snowed in the lowcountry everyone was freaking out, like the end of the world was coming.

Yea, we do get pretty wacky about it. Of course, some of us are old enough to remember the blizzard of 1973. It started snowing about mid-day on a Friday and didn't stop until late on Saturday. We had accumulations of a couple of feet in some areas. They had photos showing snow right on the beach with the waves coming up to it. The most snow I'd ever seen before that might have been an inch or two.

Oddly enough, the snow was much heavier along the coast (from Columbia south-east) than it was in the upstate. A whole lot of people got stranded in their cars on I-95. Story and map here:

http://raleighwx.easternuswx.com/Feb1973.html

We were out of school for a week. It was awesome!!! The last decent snow we had down here IIRC was 1989, the same year as Hugo. We got a few inches a couple of days before Christmas.

Kurt- Ha! Glad to hear I'm not the only one that remembers. I was still in high school at the time and lived in Salters, SC (near Kingstree) which was pretty close to the heaviest snow areas. We had a blast that week.

i was in snow a couple of years ago back in ohio going back to florida. saw it come down and got to drive in it for the first time since 88. seeing the snow come down last night was a real treat for me cause i got to drive to work in it also this morning. i'm originally from the pittsburgh pa area and i have missed the seasons.

we'll be heading over to the TWO on thursday evening with the bikes on the trailer in order to bring camping gear. if anyone has any problems while their over there, don't hesitate to say something. i have a full size pick up also.

we'll also be heading into atlanta saturday morning for the IMS.

ulywife, what part of ohio did you come from.

Neverenuf,

I spent a couple of years in Ohio; 1 year in Bellevue and one year in Portsmouth. I was working in Portsmouth in 1983 (?) on Christmas Eve when we had a big freeze on the east coast. It was several degrees below zero, the wind was blowing, I was working 2nd shift and spent at least half the night outside. It got so cold that the fuel oil supply to the building I was working in (a small diesel locomotive shop) jelled and the heat shut off. YEOW! I had enough cold to last me a while!

Amen - I have a magnet that says "I'm as far north as I want to be!"

Cincinnati is a great place to visit and I miss some of the amenities of a large city, but I don't miss the traffic and weather!

First, what is March Badness?

Second, I was in the Army at Ft. Benning in jump school in January of 88 when the snow/freezing rain storm hit. It postponed our last jump and graduation by 5 days.

I went to basic training at Ft. Jackson in Columbia. I guess that is the farthest North I've ever lived.

Jeff,

I guess we forget everybody doesn't already know about it. It's a Buell enthusiasts mass-gathering in the mountains of northeast Georgia at the "Two Wheels Only" (TWO) motorcycle resort in Suches, GA. That's about 350 miles from Charleston. TWO is smack in the middle of some of the best twisty roads in the U.S. Stone Mountain HD-Buell sponsors the event and the Buell demo truck will be there offering test rides on all bike models. This is the fifth anniversary of the event, and it occurs March 28-30.

Camping is available at TWO, rental cabins exist nearby (may not be many available at this point), and hotels are available in several towns in a ~15 mile radius.

So far, Guell and I are heading up from Summerville to attend. The more the merrier. Have you got a long-distance seat on that X1 yet?

And the Cincy traffic is only getting worse.... and creeping further and further north. Pretty soon the Dayton and Cincinnati traffic jams will just merge...

Still wide open once you get past Kings Island heading north though (that'd be one before our exit)...

I miss those days where the high for the day will be like 1F and over night it'll get so cold vodka will begin to freeze.

But if I was still up there I wouldn't have bought a motorcycle, kind of pointless 6 months out of the year.

March Badness sounds like a blast, I'll have to play my cards right with the wife if I wanna go to that event.

The greatest thing about riding around Suches is that Carlos can ride and I always have company. This keeps him from feeling guilty when he's riding and I'm at T.W.O. If I choose to ride with Carlos, I'm not committed to being on the bike all day.

Have her drop me a line if she wants to.
