It sucks riding with the Harleys in the twisties. I have to keep stopping to wait for their slowness. I don't think I ride that fast either, I just let the Buell do what it likes to do. Do you have the same problem?

No.

No local Harley riders would ever venture in to the back woods with any Buell, that for sure.

They may not be the brightest bulbs on the shelf, but they ain't that stupid.

Actually, looks like I am going to sell my Harley Dyna Sport to a Ducati rider who has the same problem you have, and just decided it's better to join them, than wait.

You need to ride with Ferris. He makes that Road King dance.

I do ride with friends that have Harleys. Sometimes I enjoy just kicking back and enjoying the view. Over the past few weeks we have started to ride with several ladies with limited riding experience. Webe and I have taken them down some of our favorite backroads so they can develop their riding skills. One who has a Sportser and had been riding with more typical Harley riders gave me a rave review of the ride last weekend. Harley riders like to jump on major highways and just ride somewhere. I hate traffic and stay on the backroads and ride not to get to a particular destination, but to enjoy the ride itself. I see this group growing because other friends of friends are hearing about what we are doing on Sunday afternoons.

I find that most harley riders are slow, then again when I ride my harley, I STILL find myself waiting for others to catch up. So it's not nessasarily the bike, it's the level of expierience and thrill level sought that most seem to lack/enjoy.

I rode with some local HD riders a few years ago and they were anything but slow! We took country back roads with a few twists and turns.
I don't think we can lump Harley riders and slow together as it really depends on the rider.
Just look at the video of the Goldwing rider on the Dragon!! That ain't slow!

Ferris can indeed make a Road King, and just about any other thing on two wheels dance. He and Denise are two of the most genuine people I have ever met; they opened their hearts and home to me as a stranger for a very cool trip and and a lifelong friendship has ensued and by some odd fate, we now live 45 mins apart (used to be California and PA).

It all depends on the rider and the tool at use- you've got to be a good rider, know the bike you're on and it's limits. Come visit NC- I'll put you up, feed you some beer and steak and go for a romp in the mountains with that special HD.

Amen! I had that honor briefly. I caught a glimpse of the back of his helmet a time or two, and got one good look when that deer sailed out of the woods in front of him. AND he was taking it easy so as not to leave me.
No, not just the bike, his Harley could leave me and my Buell anytime!
Those fine folks live on a marvelous mountain to ride off of, or up, or on.....

I ride with a couple of HD guys often, and the local HOG group on occasion. Yeah, they're....um....deliberate riders, and I guess that makes them rather slow. I make allowances. If I want speed, I ride with the sport bike crowd. If I want real speed, I ride my ZX14. Other than that, I ride with the HD folks, simply 'cause I like the people.

I have riden with HD riders, but all they do is ride for 15 min to the next bar drink and ride to the next bar for anothe drink,
its deprsing to ride with HD riders.
they spend so much time wasting time instead of riding.
I guess if you owned a HD is not like you can pass any other brand, so that would make want to drink!!!

Plus 1 Jerry_haughton

If we bash Harley riders we become no better than those riders (no matter what they ride) that think they are better than everyone else just because of the brand a motorcycle they bought.

I ride with my friends, I do not care what they ride. They are as passionate about motorcycles, all motorcycles, like I am. They know their machines, they ride quickly, we have fun.

There was a time that no one could touch me on highway 33 going into WV from VA (Harrisonburg), I rode that path every day twice a day for a year, it mattered not what bike I was on. Be it Buell or HD there was no street rider that was going to come close as I negotiated the mountain.

F skinner if you ride with HD it can mean a few things, you own their stock, you are a back stabber, you like the smell of a sweaty 400lbs Red neck or you never cared in the first place about BUell.
or you are a democrat and you don;t wnat to hurt HD feelings.

If english is your second language you are doing great. If not, judging from your sentence structure, you are an idiot. I am glad I do not choose my friends based on the machine they ride.

I used to own HD stock, I don't anymore, I made a killing.

I am a Conservative but if you feel better calling me a Democrat then please do so. It makes no difference to me and neither do you. I could care less how you smell and I do not feel like wasting any more time on you.

No, because there aren't that many on this side of the world. The only friend I have who owes a Harley has a Sportster 800cmc that his girlfriend bought him as a surprise present for his birthday, sitting ever since in his garage. Choppers we have, the cheaper ones and some Suzuki not-so-cheap big-something, pretty popular as Harley's-to-be (1700cmc?), but those guys behave different, mostly driving slowly on main roads. Nothing against them, more civilized than average bikers, pretty and always clean dressed.

I organized a ride to the Tail of the Dragon a couple of years ago. Me on my Uly the others on their Harley's. When we were in the mountains I had to keep stopping and waiting for them, they got used to it though.

I made no apologies, I just let the Uly's legs stretch and had fun.

I have a Harley and a 1125R, and enjoy both bikes for their intended purposes. And I ride them both with people that ride Harleys and other bikes. Although I will admit the Buell gets more miles on it. And alot more attention people look at me like I am riding some sort of alien machine.

Both my father and my brother ride Harleys. Occasionally I ride with them. My brother is always talking trash about Buells and when I start mine up I have to say things like, "Did you turn your bike off. I can't hear it anymore with those stock pipes." Then he shuts up.

I ride with people that don't put my life in danger. I don't give a damn what they are riding. Majority of the people I ride with ride harleys. I ride my own bike. This weekend I will be on a ride with a bagger, a new FJ1300, and me on my Buell. I enjoy the diversity of the group. As long as were all having fun, and people stay out of my space cushion, I'll ride with any type of bike.

It is possible to appear to go fast on a harley if you are a fast rider on a harley riding with slower riders on sport bikes. It is not possible to be fast or keep up on a harley if you are riding a harley with riders of equal caliber on sportbikes. That's not a bash, it's just a fact. Different bikes for different attitudes.

Personally I seldom ride with anyone. I may leave with a group or wind up in the same place, but I really dislike riding on the streets near other riders, unless I know their riding really well. And I HATE riding around other riders with loud pipes. Which I guess means I don't ride with harley riders. Even though I do have friends who ride harleys.

Lessee, I'm running twice the weight and half the horsepower on my Road King, and you say I might have a problem keeping up with a rider of similar skills on a sportbike?

Geez, ya think?!?

And I HATE riding around other riders with loud pipes.

Which would preclude riding with a lot of Buellers, I'm thinkin.'

Busman, maybe we'll get a chance to dance a twisty road together some time, me on the RK and you on your Buell.

You'll surely get to the other end before me, but I bet I keep you honest.

And if I don't, you can brag to all your homies how you put the hurt on some ol' geezer on a Harley.

Heck, you'll prolly get an award or something.

Wow I could not have said it better, I really don't like to ride in groups like some do. And when you said you hate riding with bikes that have loud pipes you must have been reading my mind. Some of these guys just love to make noise (Hey look at me) and that to me is &%#*ed up. It makes us all look bad. I have a group of guys that I ride with once or twice a month that I trust and that is fine for those few times, But love rides and fund raisers, You can have em. Just my opinion of course, LOL.

I already am honest, JH, and I'll bet you'd be shocked how it would turn out with us both on Road Kings, let alone me on a Buell. But like I say I don't ride much with others.

Buss, I doubt I'd be shocked. Twisty road, you on a Buell and me on my Road King? You'd be shooting fish in a barrel.

Both of us on a Road King? That'd certainly be interesting. Not sure what it'd prove, but it'd sure be a great way to spend a day.

I think you'd enjoy riding with me. I've ridden in close quarters with a lot of talented riders here on BWB, folks I admire and trust, and I think the feeling is mutual.

Heck, I've even ridden handlebar to handlebar with Erik Buell at speed on a tight, twisty road, and we were both laughing (and still friends) when it was all said and done.

Anyway, you go on believing that the only way to hustle down a nice road is on a sportbike.

I'd love to prove you wrong.

Hey, the OP had a valid point. In general H-D's are not fun on twisty roads. For a while I thought it was cool to smoke sportbike guys while riding H-D's. Then I realized I was simply being a bully with people less experienced, and I wasn't doing myself justice either. Hell I've smoked guys in full leathers on sportbikes while I was riding a Wide Glide! It was all ego, and it actually wasn't a fun ride. It was downright dangerous. What a way to die: sitting in the position of a toilet seat? No more for me.

I ride with HD riders all the time... my boyfriend has an 07 flhx, and he sure knows how to make that big fat bagger move! He grew up riding sport bikes, but had to get a big beautiful slower bike so that he could keep his license (you see he has a lead wrist like I sometimes do) His pipes are loud, his radio is loud, and there is more chrome on the bike than I would want on my bike, but I love riding with him, and I enjoy swapping bikes with him occasionally.

My girlfriend rides a 92 fxr that she has owned since brand new, and I love to ride with her too. My sponsor has an 07 fxdb, we have a great time out together. I would probably let them ride my bike, if only their feet would touch! Anyway, my point is that I would rather ride with someone I like who is on a HD than ride with someone I don't like who is on a Buell. Not to mention there are not too many of us on them around here.

Hey, the OP had a valid point.

And that point is?

Harley riders have the rap of being snobs when it comes to our sport. Maybe so, but we've got nothing compared to a lot of the people on this board.

The OP's point is nothing more than a poke at Harley riders, a tired one at that.

Busman, you make it sound like I'm going around picking fights with noobs on sportbikes, getting my kicks "bullying" them with the RK.

The truth is, most of the time I ride like one of those Harley riders the OP whines about.

Most of the time.

That said, I don't ride dangerously, and your "toilet seat" comment is lame and unwarranted.

But not totally unexpected.

But NO Harvey Mushman? And your not Steve McQueen neither. "Then I realized I was simply being a bully with people less experienced, and I wasn't doing myself justice either."
You brag about having so much talent why not go "Bully" those guys in AMA Superbike Pro Series Racing. WIN you some Races then you have Bragging Rights.
"Hell I've smoked guys in full leathers on sportbikes while I was riding a Wide Glide! It was all ego, and it actually wasn't a fun ride. It was downright dangerous."
Too much "Ego" you said it Your "Downright Dangerous" to other people on the road!
