Does the Motor Co. offer an 18 inch rear wheel in their catalog for the back of the '86 to '03 Sportster?

Local Denver channel 7 news anchor Mike Landess is shown in a photo with Willie G. at an MDA fund raising event at Mile High Stadium… a few years ago.

WE now have this 1977 XLCR up for sale here at High Country H-D/Buell in Frederick, CO conveniently located at exit 235, Hwy-52 on I-25 north of Denver.

The XLCR Café Racer was Willie G. Davidson’s second major design effort after the Super Glide when he came to the Motor Company started by his grand father and his brothers. The bike was like nothing Harley had done before, and in many senses, since. Other than a modern CV carb to deal with our thin air here, the bike is mostly stock, or has the stock components available, including new old stock Morris Mags and tires that are period correct. It also has only 5,600 miles on it.

If you know a collector who always wanted one of these, please have them contact me at 303.833.6777.

Of note is that this bike was in the Guggenheim Museum, “Art of the Motorcycle” tour, first in prestigious New York Guggenheim, then in Chicago, LA and a few select cities around the globe. It is also featured in the book of the same name.

Pictures to follow as soon as I can photo shop them to proper BWB sizing.

The Morris came on "most" XLCRs, the niners being regular Sportster wheels back when The Motor Company made an OEM 18-inch rear wheel. They could be 1979 to 1981 XL wheels. Spokey, indeed.

Those are XR 1000 wheels , the rear could possibly be the rare accessory 18" version , it's hard to tell in the pics. The front brake rotors are the old screamin eagle slotted , an accessory , available in the late 80's

How do I know ?

I used to have an XLCR , a very nice example of one , I think it's in Seattle now ? , I used to have an XR 1000 , bought it new , raced it , that one's in Italy now , used to have an XR 750 too , the present location of that one is unknown . At one time all three of the mentioned exotic Sportsters were in my collection at the same time.

I see the bike is now on ebay with the original wheels included.

Does H-D still make OEM 18-inch rears for Sportsters?

I, too, enjoyed ownership of an XLCR, bought new, a used low-mile XR1000, and enough K & X series race bikes to learn to love them. There has been an XLCR on the block in Seattle with a klicks odometer, may have been yours. The three bikes you mention are my personal holy trinity of H-D's interesting products.

HD make an 18" rear that fits an XL ?

Nothing thats a direct fit or bolt on , they are making 18" rear wheels and using them in production on other models , many of those sporting 240mm fatties.

If I wanted an 18 on the back of a sportster , I'd build one , spoked of course , it's easy.

Original Morris Mags and new old stock Dunlop Qualifier tires never mounted went with the bike when recently sold on eBay.

I built a cafe racer out of the 2004 Sporty I had (which I sold for the first Buell). My buddy is building a pretty tricked out Cafe bike out of an '86 XL 883 currently.

My '64 XLCH may get a very mild cafe treatment. I love the things!

Hmm. A pair of 17-inch wire wheels on Sporty hubs, taller shocks, lower the forks an inch in the trees . . . Nice bike as it is, though.

H-D OEM parts question -

I'm looking to build a non-Buell 'special' with SS-spoked 18" shouldered rims

did/does H-D offer these?
if so, 36 or 40 spoke?
what WM or inch widths?
what years/models H-D used them?

thx
