80 degrees here today...AWESOME
wore Jeans, boots, gloves, racing leather ( perforated front) jacket, full face..

saw several sportbike guys in soccer shorts, wife beaters and sneakers..

I admit I sometimes leave my jacket at home, but not often..I do always wear pants, boots, gloves and full face...

anyone here wear shorts or less than a full face?

I have a nasty habit of leaving out my gloves, and the jacket if its a quick jaunt down the block, but shorts...nope these legs are a bit too blinding to be doing that.

Not when I'm riding!

I Always Ride Wearing:

Full face helmet
Jacket with armor (Leather or Mesh)
Leather gloves
Leather pants ~80%, Jeans ~20% of the time
Sportbike riding boots

Mike.

Having witnessed a riding buddy in shorts and flipflops clip a roadreflector with his foot and severly breaking not only his foot but ankle and the bottom of the shinbone...well I have basically lived in boots from that day forward.

Back when Cali still had a no helmet law, my friend got clipped by a car right in front of me. He was wearing jeans,sneakers,t-shirt and no helmet. Needless to say he had a lot of road rash and a nice hole in his head from sliding across the road. The good thing was, is that I was able to avoid running him over as he slide across the road in front of me. I missed him by about 2 inches.

I always wear jacket (leather most of the time (even 90 degree heat); Buell Adventure jacket for long trips and cold days), gloves (leather or cordura), boots (engineer with steel toe or sportbike) and full face helmet. It usually jeans but occasionally I'll wear my 2pc leather suit.

For me full gear everytime. Everyday when it is warm, I see guys on campus here (UT) on sportbikes in shorts, tshirts and sandals. Oh and of course, no helmet at all.

Its hot and humid here in South Carolina but I do wear at least jeans, gloves, full helmet, race boots and cordura jacket. I like to wear my full leathers but the heat and humity can be to much sometimes.

On the Buells, full-face, boots, gloves all the time. Usually a jacket, unless it's really hot.

On the big HD's with windshields I usually go to an open face helmet, otherwise the same gear as on the Buells.

I'll risk a little skin off my upper body in exchange for not overheating, but I won't risk hands feet or head!

I ride with two guys that wear no helmets but full leathers. One rides a ridged 66 Triumph TR6 Chopper (absolutely BEAUTIFUL bike) and the other rides a ridged 76 sporty and both of them say I have a death wish for buying an XB12R...

I have just resigned myself to the fact that one of these days I'll scrape one of them off the pavement and I assure you... I'll cry. It sounds morbid but it will probably be Robert because he likes speed/acceleration like I do. He's about to turn his sporty into a "shovster"... 86" sportster in a VERY low ridged frame. When he leans a little too far to the left (like 20 degrees) his brake catches the pavement. Yeah... I have a deathwish...

ALWAYS:
Full helmet, armored gloves, over ankle boots, armored jacket.

For commuting, I throw on an extra layer of water proof nylon rain pants, just to keep road spooge off my dress slacks.

For expected aggressive rides, I wear fully armored pants also.

There is (IMHO) no reason not to wear an armored jacket of some sort. If you are moving on a motorcycle, you are not that hot regardless. If you are parked on a motorcycle, you are hot regardless. It's not like not having a jacket on will keep you cool sitting on top of a 1200cc air cooled engine running on 110 degree blacktop while stopped in a long line of traffic...

If you are moving on a motorcycle, you are not that hot regardless. If you are parked on a motorcycle, you are hot regardless. Too true. For me safety is just the result of my being comfortable.

Draggin' Jeans and leather riding jacket for winter riding...with appropriate long johns or whatever is required.

Mesh riding pants and jacket for summer with coolmax t-shirt, tighty whiteys, and socks.

Full face helmet to keep out bugs, sand, rocks etc.

Almost forgot...Magnum Stealth boots. Winter or summer. Just picked up mesh gloves today as well. All the mesh is motorcycle specific and should provide sufficient protection.

Wearing gear should be a matter of choice. I choose to be comfortable and this is what is required for me.

Everytime:

Armored jacket
Riding boots
Gloves
Pants (jeans or slacks, depending if I going to work or not - the leather only comes out if I'm going riding just for the sake of riding)
Full face helmet

Quite frankly, I quietly wish every person I see riding in shorts a 15-20mph lowside just to teach them a simple lesson. And no helmet? Why on earth would you want to remove the already slim chance you have of surviving a serious wreck?

I just picked up on full leather gear in the last week.. I was just thinking to myself today: "wow am I really going to be able to wear full leathers most of the time?" I am not sure. I live in Kansas City and believe it or not it gets very hot and super humid here in the summer time. I dunno if I am going to be able to wear all that all summer. I bought it all with the full intention of doing just that but when I put it all on the other night here in my house at 68 degrees I was already sweating. : ( I dunno if this is going to work. Before I wore Boots, Jeans, Mesh Armour Jacket, Gloves and Full Face Helmet. I now have leather riding pants and a perf'd leather armoured jacket. I just dunno. I was curious how many people really wear there leathers all summer and I see a couple on here that say they do but I am seeing alot that don't. I am thinking I should try to pick up some synthetic "mesh" type armoured pants for the really hot days. I know I will wear my mesh jacket in the heat of the summer I just don't think I can bear the leather pants the whole time. But I want more protection then what I have been accustomed to in the past with jeans..

I wear my leather jacket, gloves , and full face almost all of the time. the only time that i havent is when i have ridden to the next block where my inlaws live. i dont feel comfortable without it. I have said that if i was in a non helmet law state and was out in the midddle of nowhere i might right lidless but realistically i dont see myself being able to. I just bought a pair of leather pants from motorcyclecloseout.com on wed. I usually wear my corduras when riding as well.

Minimum full face, gloves, boots, jeans, and leather for commuting. Summers here are hot (DUH! I live in the f***ing desert!) so last summer got me a Joe Rocket mesh for a little more protections than just a t-shirt. Also just picked up a two-piece cordura with all the armor for weekend rides...like tomorrow!

I wear either all leather or my joe rocket suit. Steel toe boots or my sidi vertebra II. Arai full face helmet and leather gloves. I do this because the one time I went out in jeans, "cause I'm just gonna be taken it easy" is the one time I laid the bike down. Sand and gravel in a corner turned into sand and gravel in my knee. My jacket had some minor abrasions, and a small tear. I am convinced that if I had been all geared up I would have come out of it with nothing more that a sprained ankle. Lesson learned, motorcycles can be dangerous, protect yourself to the greatest extent possible.

I also wear full gear all of the time. As a student at Texas Tech University, there are a lot of guys that ride to campus with nothing but their thick skulls and a t-shirt. It may be hot, but I always have the armored jacket, helmet, and leather gloves.

As I said above, I wear jeans sometimes, but leather pants most of the time. But I started thinking about it while reading this thread, and jeans are about as useless as a pair of shorts in a crash.

I think I will by some coolmax undergarments and wear my 2-pc leather suit all the time.

Mookie - don't know if it will fit you or not but you're welcome to indefinitely borrow my Joe Rocket mesh jacket. I never wear it anymore, between the perfed Vanson and the Joe Rocket leather I'm good for all weather conditions.

I'll be here in Japan during most of the summer, but home April. If you want to swing by and try it on (and take it, if it'll fit ya), let me know.

Xb9er - a good pair of heavy jeans is a thousand times better than shorts, just as a non-DOT certified brain bucket is still better than a thick skull and dreadlocks. Both times I've been down have been with thick jeans on - both times they got dirty and nothing else.

Its been my observation that a lot of folks on the boards will claim to wear full gear all the time because they dont want other members to ridicule them. Now I realize some people do wear it all the time & others never wear it. But there is also a sizeable number who wear it for track days, or cooler days, etc. But when its 100 degrees out full leathers are hotter than hell. I have done that bit & its miserable.

Do I wear the gear? Sure sometimes, definitely not all the time. In summer it all depends on where im going & what im riding. If on the Buell..like that has happened in awhile..I will usually wear the brain bucket & one of my Joe rocket jackets. On the HD in warm weather its pretty much t-shirts & jeans. If I head out of town I will throw on my leather.

I understand the risks involved & am willing to take that gamble. If I truly wanted to be safe or at least safer I wouldnt ride a bike at all.
