Hey All,

I want to get everyones' opinion as to what is/are the most important extras and upgrades to get for my bike. XB9R...has the Buell Race exhaust...but other than that is stock. Please let me know what you think I should be getting first. Safety first lol..so what else besides sliders...anything? Sorry I am new...just don't want to go get a bunch of cosmetic things only to drop the bike and have it ruined.

The R's actually come pretty close to how I would like them

Adjust the suspension (free) is a must need "mod".

Things to buy, definetly would get axle sliders front and rear as well as frame sliders if you dont have them already.

Perhaps bar end sliders as well (I have bar end mirros but the R's usually stick with stock).

Grips (buell Tractions have good ergonimics but are not the softest).

Could do the race ECM and high flow air filter to complete the engine package if you can find one.

Other then that I cant really think of anything!

On my bike I have sliders, bar end mirrors, grips, new bars, but most of that doesnt apply to the R!

Brake levers are a nice trick mod but you dont really need that either.

Sounds like you dont really need anything at all : p

Talloy, if you have the owners manual, there is a little section on adjusting the supsension. It has base settings for different rider weights. I know theres a sight on the net that has a similar chart, just not sure of it.

You didn't read your manual....

It means...setting up the way the suspension works best for you.
Your weight and the way drive.

The small manual gives a good starting point, but then you must adjust from there.

After setting it per the book..per your weight. Then do small changes per the way you drive, e.g., aggressive, just a cruiser...or somewhere in between. Keep adjusting till you like the way the bike handles.
If you get lost...go back to the books settings and start over. Not difficult.

It'll make a big difference in the way the bike drives and your personal feeling about it.

Mike

P.S. - as has been mentioned...a track school (Keith Code is one), will return much more learning and fun than many "extras" will.
The bike is more capabile than you (apparently) are now...learn the bike and its capibilitys first.

If you don't have the manual, use the 2005 9R settings. That owner's manual is on the Buell.com US website.

Yes, adjust the suspension.

Race ECM and standard ECM are the same on the '03, just different maps. Invest in ECMspy instead.

I'm 6', I found the XB pegs better and the custom seat to be a huge improvement.

You already mentioned sliders, so FRAME PUCKS. Used them more times than i wanted to already.

GPS, throttle lock, pucks (+1), suspension (+1), track school (+1)
Can't believe how much I learned in one day from Lee Parks. And of course, the bike is still better than me!

Definitely need to set the suspension, and the best thing is that's free.

Single best upgrade I made to my Firebolt was to get the Buell Traction Grips, hands down. Soooooo much easier on the hands for any length ride.

After that, I strongly second (or third or eigth or whatever it's up to) the frame pucks and axle sliders.

I have the Buell Custom Seat and really prefer it over stock for a little extra scoosh.

I would also add the Service Manual. It will become your best friend!

And one that nobody mentioned is the Oil Pump Drive Gear upgrade. This is $40 of cheap insurance. I found this out the hard way on my new race bike. The bike had the steel gear in it and it grenaded. The oil pump quit, the cams seized in the bushings, the cams galled up in the cases. The end result is a set of destroyed cams, a set of destroyed cases, and a big repair bill!
