I got my Drummer for my 12R on Saturday here are my first impressions. 1) Installation is easy- 30mins. I didnt take the cable out i just tied it away in case i need it later. 2) Its loud! I havent got any Harley/Buell buddies so it was the first time i had heard the big twin unleashed. I went and hid under my bed for 30 mins after i started it. 3) The ECM learns quickly. I dont really think it takes 10 miles at a constant 3500RPM, to get it to work. I managed to find about 2km of road and it felt fine. 4)Its louder when you ride it. Like 1000 tiny hammers in my helmet. With earplugs its perfect. 5)Now the juicy part- The muffler delivers as promised. 2 main things. The engine pulls harder from lower down. Basically from 2200RPM it pulls hard like my 2 stoke when its in the power band. Secondly it revs freer and quicker which means it reaches its peak torque point quicker. What does this mean for me? Around here there are a lot of '1st or 2nd gear' twisty mountain roads. With the stock muffler i was either red line in 1st or sluggish in 2nd and fanning the clutch on the exit of some corners. Now i just leave it in second, even if the revs drop right down. Once i reach the apex i just crack it open and away we go, very addictive torque pull. Ive been riding around all weekend over the same mountian roads because i just dont want to go home. It has totally transformed the bike, and me (Im about ten times tougher than i was 2 days ago because of the Drummer anthem that precedes me). In a nut shell. Get a Drummer!!! (Nice work Kev) | ||

Paul- Out of curiosity- what are the noise laws like over there? Are loud bikes very unusual or not that big of a deal? | ||

Drummer all the way baby!!! Congrats!! Since I pulled my bike out of storage from winter I have a new found appreciation for my Drummer. She's louder and pulls more than I remember. Enjoy! I would have no other. I also agree with the 10mile ecm relearn. Mine ran right from the moment I hit the start button, and continues as I set off car alarms. | ||

I was on the fence... this post pushed me over. I'm going with the Drummer. I would like to have no down time, so I will order a pipe, then send mine in for a credit later. What is the best way for me to order? American? KDFab? | ||

Good choice my friend! I went with AmericanSB. Buy the pipe from them and select the core charge since you want no down time. American Sport Bike then contacts Kevin, Kevin then ships the pipe. Once you receive your Drummer, send your stock pipe to Kevin (ship in same box the Drummer came in), and contact American Sport Bike to inform them that you have done so. American Sport Bike will then refund your core charge once Kevin receives your stock. It only took 6 days for me to get my Drummer this way, but I was later told I was rather lucky since he had built up a stock pile of Drummers. Not sure how busy he his now with the 1125 pipe etc... Good luck, you won't be disappointed! | ||

God you guys are making me excited to get a Drummer  And to the OP... haha I love how you say there are roads that are lugging in 2nd or redlining in 1st... Its a 1203cc twin! I had a 50cc two stroke street bike that was like that on my uphill rides, 35mph, 3rd gear pinned on the limiter or 4th gear just barely below the power band. Went one tooth up on the sprocket and could use 3rd the whole time... Anyways, I cant imagine this bike is really as bad as you say  . But yeah, I am definetly going to order through Al and use to core charge fee, dont want to have to wait plus then Ill have the perfect box to ship mine back in. | ||

I got my Drummer about 8 months ago, I've been in love with the sound of my bike ever since!!! no more sewing machine music! It makes a big difference starting your bike up for the curious when you've got a Drummer. I'm not knocking other pipe manufacturers out there, I'm just happy with what I bought! | ||

Good write-up Paul! I put my SS Drummer on about a month ago and agree on all counts. I especially enjoy the increased low end flexibility, also smoothed out some of my surging issues. At first the noise seems loud, but compared to the Harleys and some of the sport bikes around my area, it is still very reasonable. | ||

Grew up in Japan for a bit as a kid, I can't imagine the looks your getting for growling around on that XB! Have fun on those hills! On a side note I think it is safe to say that almost anything is an improvement on the sound of the stock pipe, sound wise at least. Luckily there are some really good options for all the Buell bikes these days, and if you don't like what is out there you can make your own! | ||

I've put my drummer SS about 2 months ago. Since there's still a little bit of snow here i've only made 2 ride with it and my bike is a 100% better with it. I really love the sound of it. I'm a real happy customer. (Message edited by ray_xb on March 24, 2009) | ||

Hell I couldnt wait! Just ordered mine (paid core fee so I wont be out from riding for more then an hour or so to install)... Also got aluminum sliders front and rear and traction grips. Should be a good set of mods for now... Still have bar end mirrors, small signals, integrated signals in the rear, levers etc... in the works... But I want to spread it all out! |
