They should have used a belt or drive shaft.

Belts/shafts aren't good for the kind of racing they want to get into. They built that bike to go head to head with the Japanese/Italians.

Ruebin is the man, Ruebin-it or win-it. I have one of those posters of him backing in a Hypermotard one handed giving the #1 with his other hand whilst smoke is pouring off of that poor rear tire. I can't wait to see him wad up all of BMW's bikes. They may have to buy all of their own bikes from the dealers just to have spares.

Troy - Come-on Aussie

It is a rare BM that tempts me, and if Buell don't manage to get the radiators under the seat or at least somewhere more attractive, I will definitely be looking at bikes like this when I upgrade.

R1 - Meh

BMW also just released a new K1300S. It's a heavy beast, but it makes 103 ft-lbs of torque and 175 hp. it's also shaft driven

I read an article in a magazine about this bike, also the article linky has the info too....
~cliff notes~
BMW always had exotic designs here and there like the boxer engine, the shaft drives, and ducati like space frames used in their race bikes, and they were not doing so well.. so this is where this bike comes in....
BMW took all their prior knowledge of their bikes and threw it in the trash. A segway towards designing a new bike that is actually competive with the big4, with and for BMW to race in any major race class, they have to produce that same bike for the public. Also this will be a great learning experiance for BMW, as because they will be able to see the other competitors have problems with. If this bike had a boxer enginem and a shaft drive, it will be a different bike. So.... BMW is trying to level-out the playing field

Its a shame about the looks. Looks like just another CBR1ZXRGSXR. Love it or hate it at least the Buell, KTM and Ducati look unique.

From the Motorrad Messe in Leipzig, Germany 2 weeks ago. Apparently my digital camera either doesn't like to focus on dull carbon fiber, or it's time to upgrade, or I just had an off day...

I think it's actually worse than the 1125... at least the 1125 is ugly in a "new" way- this bike is just a really bad version of typical Japanese styling. I am so disappointed in BMW.
