Ckj,
I am assuming you don't have the shop manual. It is described well there. I will scan the page for you and e-mail it to you right now. For future reference, you don't have to remove the throttle housing to replace a grip, you just loosen it and move it. I replaced my bars not long ago and you only have to take the clutch side apart. It is way more simple. Any way, check your e-mail.

CJ,
You should have the page in your e-mail now. I hope I am not getting into trouble by scanning it. I am sure Buell will understand that I am just trying to help. Also, everybody, BUY THE SHOP MANUAL if you plan on workin on the bike.

Good Luck CJ, Morgan

Bud,
Are we going to get in trouble? I am just kidding. If he doesn't get it now, he has some real trouble.

One thing I noticed while moving my assembly is that if you don't have the cables tightened correctly on the outside of the assembly the throttle won't snap back correctly. I had to loosen both of them as much as possible. Does that make sense?

so i think you are saying disconnet outside of the housing the cables and then either tighten them or lossen them to make it work right

Ckj,

You've probably just got the cables routed improperly inside the right controls housing.

Take it back apart.

The right handgrip should be oriented with the throttle cable cutouts DOWN. Slide the grip on to the bar. Holding the right control housing in the same orientation, slide the cable ends into the appropriate slot in the hand grip. Place the switch side of the housing (the one on the 'rear' of the bar) over the throttle grip and put the hard plastic cable guides in place.

Note where the hole in the front of the right handlebar is. This is a guidepost hole for the housing. Place the other side of the housing over the end of the throttle grip. The top of it should close, the bottom will not. Rotate/slide the housing until the guidepost slips into that hole.

Screw everything back together. Your throttle should be fine, although you may have to 'fine tune' the cables to take up any slack and get it to snap back properly. Simply twist the cable adjusters on the inboard side of the housing to do so if necessary.

I hope this helps! If you're still stuck later I might be persuaded to pop mine opn and take digicam pics of it to give you a nudge in the right direction.

I take it everything is back together and working? If not, let me know. I'll get some pics to go along with the above explanation.

And that was from memory before I had my coffee!

You are going to kill me but no something even easier I am having trouble with. Trying to line up the PIN with the holes in the clip-on bar so that the housings stay put and do not rotate. Any help would be appreciated.

There's really nothing that we could help you with there. Just hold them together and slide it around until the damned thing goes in there. It's a pain in the ass - maybe sliding it far enough out to see the hole would help you visualize it.
