'04 XB12R with race kit.

Seeking other's experience with plugs and recommendations.

Also bike has a flat spot and sometimes stumble about 4000 rpm.

Cantakerous when cold, sneezes and such.

Other than the above the bike runs out great.

Suggestions? Thanks.

i presume your asking about ear plugs?

You might take a look at Torque Master Spark Plugs @ ExtremeSpark.com. Very interesting engineering of a spark plug.

Nah, spark plugs. Sorry for the confusion.

Cantankery in a XB motor normally means a TPS reset is in order.

Too bad you didn't mention it at MBV, there were a number of guys there who could do it well, more than I can say for most dealers.

As far as plugs are concerned, I have been using Denso Iridium IUX 24's on my last two Buells. Once installed, I never messed with them again. NGK Iridiums are fine too, don't know the part number though.

Iridiums foul less, and last longer because of the super hard, and very small center electrode, so they say.

I got them from Appleton HD.

Nice seeing you and Rachel in Suches. Love your taste in Beemers.

The flat spot at 4000 rpm may be an artifact of the factory race can, which is tuned for power at the top.

Simple solution: sell your race can for max bucks on eBay, where they seem to be fetching more than they cost new, and replace it with the redoubtable Drummer.

Mike:
You have the NGK Iridiums already with less than 4,000 miles on them. If you are having some low rpm stumbles or coughs the terminal on the plugs could be loose.

Since the flat spot is not always there I would suggest a TPS reset even though one was done when the race kit was installed at 10k miles.

Please get your timing double-checked as well.

I've always wanted to try these:

Neil, you're right ... the flat spot is not always there. I'm loving the bike!

Sounds like the same exact problem mine is still having. TPS helped out, but the sneezing, or coughing as i like to call it, is still there when at about 2% throttle. Im going to check the spark plug wires and such. Dealership changed out the plugs when I got the bike, cause they felt the coughing as well. Wonder if they just didnt get one of the plug wires on real good.

My experience is even with the race kit, regardless of spark plug choice, the bikes still run a bit on the lean side. We've tuned a few XBs now, and have had great results with DirectLink on stock & Race ECMs. I always recommend the OEM spark plugs, they do us great in our race bike and should be more than adequate for street use.

Just my 2 cents...

I have had great luck with a set of the Buell Triple Platinum Pro Series Plugs, From the Harley Dealer, and a set of racing wires from Iron Machine. The stock plugs would foul. This is my second set of the triple platinums without issue for the last 12000 miles. I have been putting a fresh set in each season or every 6000 miles or so.
