Contemplating getting an xb in the next month or so, but with the release of the 2008 models soon with the possibility of a new engine, will this mean a large decrease in demand for the harley engined buells?

Or will they simply become more of a collectors item?

Think of it as a 67 Camaro in 1974.

Don't start holding your breath for a new engine.
Last year was full of crappy colored plastic pieces and nothing else....
The year before was the "off road" version of basicly the same parts...

Exactly my point.

Would you enjoy a 67 Camaro less now knowing it wasn't the latest technology?

In 1974 you would. Now? It would simply be a "classic".

There are already deals being offered in the UK to try to unload the stock of 07 models, with an extra £500 (US$1000) being offered if you trade in your old Buell for a 'new' 2007 model now.

Funnily enough, dealers are not telling people that a new model is imminent, so unless customers already frequent Buell owner's forums they will be blissfully unaware that they could wait a month or so and see what emerges from the factory gates instead.

Personally, I'd wait. It's only a week away and you may kick yourself in the @ss if you purchase one now and the sales begin. or you may like the new bike even better!
I wouldn't hold my breath either. BUT expect something new and exciting!!

Regardless of whether or not there is a entirely new model announced in July, 2007 models will become "leftovers" and as such, will get substantial price reductions at most, but not all, dealers.

In addition, there are still unsold 2006's around that will be sold for even less, even though they don't differ very much from the 2007's and will have a two year guarantee.

Yeah i dont have the funds for the new bike til august anyway, so when in july are buell releasing the new models? And surely they wouldnt have made any substantial changes without some of it leaking out? I really want to get xb9sx so unless there is something cooler coming out i will go with that when the time comes.

And thanks for the explanation ft_bstrd, never really thought of it like that before. I guess the buell is way different to the jap bikes in that instead of going from modern to obsolete, they become classic....always genuinely cool bikes.

New product announcement is imminent. But you won't see that product in the showroom until much later - probably October at best. If you're interested in a CityX, and if rumors are true that the new product is more a track bike, then you won't benefit by waiting.

I've always kicked myself afterwards when not going with gut feel but waited to see what's around the bend.
Good luck in your decision

I would say wait till dealers start pushing the 07's for the 08's so you can get an 07 for cheaper

There are always deals to be had at the end of one model year going into the next. The deals deepen as the model is updated or as new models are introduced. If you don't have to have the latest and greatest version Suburban, Camry, Minivan, etc., you can get some nice deals.

I would wait until the new models are announced. If you absolutely have to have the new model because it is SOOOOOO irresistible, expect to pay more, wait in line, and climb over two or three BadWebbers to get it. If you see the new models and still find an 07 that still tickles your fancy, you will probably get a decent deal.

I bought my 04 12R in late July of 04, and I got a pretty good deal. I knew the 05s were almost exactly the same, so it just made sense to buy an 04 to get the $2,000 off the sticker for a brand new bike. July 8th the new models will be announced, and if there isn't anything cool I would say pick up the cityx.

Dude, your profile says you ride one for the soul. If you're so unhappy with the bike, sell the fu&*in thing! Of course people on a Buell enthusiast web site drink Buellaid, what do you expect? I've had my share of CBRs, R6s, and Gixxers. For me, my XB12 is still THE funnest bike I've ever owned. Does it do 160? No, but the explosive torque makes me smile every time, especially, when the front wheel lifts through 1st and 2nd as I power wheelie through the gears. Oh, scaring unsuspecting bystanders with the huge explosions from the twin cylinders is nice too.

Yep its got soul.
Its noisy as f*ck.
It ratlles n shakes to beat hell.
and its GROSSLY underpowered....
Yes it IS a fun bike,BUT if they came out with a 150hp liquid cooled version,
LIKE THE DAMN STATEMENT SAID,I'd sell it IN A HEARTBEAT and I'm SURE I wouldn't be alone.

i would still have to have a TORQUEY 150hp motor for me to give mine up. i don't want a motor with 15K RPM redline, no power below 8 grand, and the sound of a pissed off weedeater. if i did, i'da already bought a 636. : )

that bein' said, a "dumbed-down", epa/dot ready xbrr motor would be sweeeeeeeet... and probably practical for BMC to do. can't wait for the announcement next week.

To some people, fast just isn't fast enough. It's gotta be a 170 or bust, even on the street. An 11 second bike just isn't enough.

Hey Buelltroll, if they come out with the 150 HP one and you get one would you want to race?
I'll take a XB9R and you get the new 150 HP one. Any midwest roadrace track besides Brainerd or Road America (too long of straights)

Grossly underpowered my ass.
Maybe for people that want to go fast in a straight line. For that just go buy a Busa or a ZX14 and be done with it.
When it comes to curves, you have to be good enough to outride the bike before the bike is the problem. Pretty sure that you, my friend, are not there yet. Nor am I.

BTW, how you been?

PS
I am all for a new Buell BTW
It will help sales to the portion of the market( the vast majority) that thinks HP equals fast.
There are 1000s and 1000s of riders out there that think they will be fast if they buy a fast enough bike. Seen it happen plenty of times. Doesn't work that way but it does sell bikes.

I agree with you Daves, I said it somewhere else anyone can be fast on a straight line but it does take skills to be fast in the corners no need for gobs of power there.

I have to say though with bikes like the Daytona 675 it makes spending 11K on a Buell a pretty hard purchase to justify.
