Just put on a Special Ops exhaust on my 12 and man it's loud . Maybe by V twin standards it's not but it seems a bit much to me ! I have to wear ear plugs just to ride it . Does anyone else have this problem . Performance seems good but I'm on the fence as to whether I like it or not .

Have a Jardine can. Ridiculously loud, but I love it. Car alarms beware. Loud pipes save lives. Cagers definitely know I'm there.

I have an original Drummer and an open air box.

Not so loud that I can't sneak out of the village without raising the neighbor's hackles.

On the other hand, when the kettle is on the boil, it isn't exactly a secret.

Bonus: Deer, which are plentiful hereabouts, seem to be repelled by the sound of an oncoming Drummer at full song, and get out of the way, instead of charging into the machine, as they are wont to do with quieter models.

eye plugs sound not only reeeally dangerous on a bike, but in many ways sound painful too, i cant imagine the sound of the special ops warrants them.

im really surprised im the first to mention this

... but someone had to right?

Race pipe, just nice. I started with the stock can.... too quiet, went to the Jardine and it was too loud.

I bought mine just because of the noise. I love it. And eye plugs are not all their cracked up to be.

Jardine here, I also bought the silencer for it. No silencer is for track days since my directmap is for the non silenced Jardine.

I have the stock can. I sometimes would like it a little louder.

I only plug my ears.

I still my stock can, too. It's sitting on a storage shelf, on the top row where I can't see it.

I think mice live in it now.

I have a Jardine on my XB and a Supertrapp on my S1 and wear earplugs at all times. I used to spend weeks at a time in cargo planes, so I'm used to wearing them.

While I loved my Spec-Ops pipe, I had to trade it in for a Buell Race Can, because of the noise in the mountains was too much for me.

I am running a stocker and taking a lot crap for it! lol The aftermarket exhaust choices are a little confusing. I see that the Jardine is pretty inexpensive compared to the rest. Do they last very long? What does it do to your powerband?

My pipes are sooo loud, I have to notify the National Geophysical Administration so they don't think it's a magnitude 12 on the Richter Scale.

91 db at 10 ft, with the red paper to prove it. Thanks to mister Johnny Law. I still say that he may have been standing at 10 ft, but his pointing arm was encrouching giving me a loud reading... Just another reason to stay off our local neighboring island that will remain nameless. But the locals know the offending PD, I am sure ;)

Cityxslicker: And what type of exhaust do you have?

I want either a Drummer SS or a Micron exhaust system. I'm just worried about getting an exhaust and then hating it because it's too loud and obnoxious.

What kind of exhaust is this?

I have the race can. I like loud noises and I wish I could get a drummer. I'm a poor college student so theres no way I can shell out that cash, but I would love to trade plus some cash my race muffler for a drummer. I know jardine and others are very loud, but I like the jack points on the muffler, because as previously stated, I am poor. But no one wants to part with their drummer.

But if anyone is interested, let me know! The race can is still plenty loud, and sounds nice and deep, but I want that extra annoyance! : )

I put a special ops pipe on my 12r this week and don't find it that loud , it blows away stock but I don't have any ringing in my ears when I finish riding . I'm running stock ecm race air filter and had my cover (fake tank) opened up for better flow.

Davy_boy, If you block one of the outlets you'll get about a 4dB drop in volume. This might not sound much but remember dB is a logarithmic scale. I put a bung in one of my Special OPS outlets just to see what difference it made to the volume and it was significant (I took dB readings using a meter from work). I'm doing a dyno run in a few weeks so I'll try it with and without the bung just to see if it makes any difference. Remember, the stock breaths through a 2" pipe so I don't think it should do much harm to the flow. We'll see though...

You can always get a removable steel "bung" made up to drop the volume if it is just too much. I like mine as is though.

Cityxslicker has probably just not noticed that his pipe was clawed off by some tree stump while on one of his offroad rides.

Or maybe he just likes to be a whipping boy

Been driving it around and it seems to be more tolerable . Just takes some getting use too I guess . Coming off a Japanese 4 banger are quiet by comparison . And I meant ear plugs .
