Hello, my name is Scott.
Let's jump right to it...

Anyone drag a knee on a City X? I just picked up an '05 a few weeks ago, the bike handles AMAZING; i'm getting lean angles I haven't experienced since my racing days.
The bike feels tall (Obviously because of the seat) but I noticed chassis-wise, the numbers between the Firebolt and Lightning are similar. Anyone get a knee down on A City X? I'm afraid to try!

I have but I have the lowered seat and suspension on my Cityx. I love. Little scare at first but I think I definitely need a steering damper on it before anymore knee draggin haha

This would certainly be the tallest bike i've ever dragged a knee on. Feels like a KLR. LOL
I have a low seat but the raised lip in the rear puts pressure on my back. The standard "Tall" seat is much more comfortable.

I get pretty hairy but keep most of my stuff off road, If I drag a knee like on the track on gravel... well I am on my way to going down. But on the pavement, I would love to get her on a track day : D

If Chad can get a knee down on a Uly, the CityX shouldn't be a problem. I got pretty damn close on the Uly one time. Then I remembered that I didn't have pucks.

That would have sucked.

I have come pretty damn close, I have a lot shaved off the pegs from dragging them and im sure if i put my knee out anymore it would be scrapping. Im running the conti_sportattacks for tires and have a xb9s 03' model with cityx seat so im just as high as a cityx

I can touch a peg down screwing around in a parking lot, but in 18k miles of riding I think I have only touched the pegs on the street maybe twice. That thing has a LOT of ground clearance.

That reminds me... time for my spring cobweb cleaning and going back to the parking lot again... Gotta practice the "panic stop with immediate transition to a hard evasive turn".

It would have been an impossible move on the M2, the suspension was just not up to the task... better to keep stopping and take the hit. But on the 9sx it is a very credible evasive maneuver. Going from 45mph down to 15mph and then to a full tilt emergency turn is a pretty useful memory to have pre-built into my muscles.

You guys are dragging knees and I still have about a 1/4" of chicken strips on each side of the rear tire. Of course, I have less than 2,000 street miles in my life and my Lightning is my first bike! So I figure my chicken strips aren't bad, especially when you see guys who have been "riding" forever with 1" chicken strips!

I have a track day coming up in early October at Mid Ohio... so on a good surface with warm tires, can I take a good set of Scorpion Syncs over until I am dragging a knee?

Those look like syncs in that last picture...

OK Skully

Technically your picture proof is off

Your knee is about an inch up off the ground

Re- take and resubmit for complete verification

GOD Bless

Reepi,

After my trip to March Badness IV in March/April, my 07 Uly has NO discernable chicken strips on the rear tire (Scorpion Syncs). I don't think you'll have any trouble dragging a knee with your CityX.

1" chicken strips!

Ha Ha!!! Well... I'll have to tell ya, I thought that it would be a good Idea to try it. (don't know what I was thinking) Now I've got my first road rash and a nice dent in the frame for my troubles.

Funny how it's right where the frame pucks I ordered are supposed to go. Can't wait till they get delivered. (for a different reason now)

Maybe next time.

Only pegs scraping the ground. Think my legs are to short
to get my knee down but I do get around rather fast on my XB9SX.
in upright position

knee dragging has more to do with body position than lean angle, or speed.

True, but it's also a great way to judge your lean angle. Better than scraping pegs (and safer) IMO.

scottsts, agree completely. although scraping pegs is fun too, just doesn't leave much "in the bank".

Welcome to the City X ranks. I've dragged my 05 City X pegs on Deal's Gap. Lot's of fun.

Oh, BTW, my 05 has 33,000 miles on it also.

Wow... thats a lot of miles Cataract. My 05 only has 19k. I need a longer commute : )

Anything break yet? Stator? Battery? Voltage Regulator? Crank Seal? Oil pump drive gear?

Mine seems to be running better everyday, aside from a noisy lifter when it's hot.

Mine too has 33,000 miles on it. One stator failure has been the one big PITA with a few smaller ones like having to replace a failing fan.
