I have the aluminum model w/quiet insert on my 9S for 9k miles. One loose rivet, never repacked. Still working fine. | ||

I've had one aluminum fail on me. I have the titanium one now and that seems to be holding well. The main problem I think is that the end caps are SS and the core is aluminum and that metal is too soft for a engine as violent as the Buell. With the rivets being SS once it gets a little loose your done, because the shaking widens the holes. I drilled more holes and put in extra rivets and that proved to be a temporary fix. I wish they had made a full SS pipe then it would be awesome. I still have my old aluminum onw and will one day take it to a shop to have it reproed in SS | ||

Also posted in the QB thread: Let’s see if I can help, I've had nothing but problems with mine. I only have a couple of hundred miles on it, so the rivets have not backed out yet, but I have been emailing them about another issue. I got the aluminum one for my 9 and the muffler itself is fine, but the L pipe that goes from the muffler to the collector is a piece of crap. I had to grind the hell out of the mounting bracket and bend it, as well as drill out the hole, to get it to mount. Once everything was aligned and mounted, I fired it up and went for a short ride. The performance gains were noticeable and I was very pleased. That is until I also noticed that there was a serious exhaust leak at the point where the L pipe meets the collector. I made sure the pipe was seated as far up as it would go on the collector and varied how tight the clamp was, but none of it worked. I am baffled (I know... a muffler pun) that there is even enough back pressure in the muffler to force the exhaust out of anywhere else. My first email asking for them to send me a new L pipe was completely ignored, but I got a reply from the second one requesting pictures. I took pics of it mounted and detailed shots of it apart showing the inside of the pipe and the discoloration on the collector where the leak is. It has been about two weeks since that email and even though I sent another one yesterday asking what the status was, I have received no reply. So, now that I’m done venting, the point is that the set up was just not designed for the 9 (I checked and that is what your profile says you have) and will take modification to mount. Not only is the mounting bracket not set up for the 9, the quality of the pipe is sub-par. I do seem to be one of the few who has had the exhaust leak problem though. You also can’t jack up your bike from the muffler because it uses a new rear mounting bracket that is about as flimsy as aluminum foil. Plus, I don’t think the pipe itself could take the weight of the bike without being crushed. If I had it to do all over again, I would have spent a little more cash on another pipe that doesn’t require re-packing, and may have mounted without months of aggravation. | ||

Have a Jardine RT1 on a XB9s. Alloy can, has been re-polished and repacked as the core was less than average. I repacked with SILENTSPORT they use this stuff in off-road, trail-bikes and some of the super-bikes it's designed to withstand a high temp, so it's not going to burn out. Silentsport were very helpful and know about the Jardine cans, and sent 2 sets of stainless rivets, plenty of packing and detailed instructions to repack a Jardine can. I only had one problem with the bracket, the front hole does not line up on the L bracket, I would say the JIG in making these is out, they should make these with a SLOT so it will cover the variances in bikes. Never had a bracket break ! Never lost a Rivet! When I repacked I sealed this up with High Temp gasget sealant not holes in this baby. The sound is very good, she pulls quites strong (race ecm & mod air box). I will probably get a SS Drummer one day, as for now this will do. |
