The December 2006/January 2007 issue of "Robb Report Motorcycling" has a nice article about the 2007 Buell Lightning Long XB12Ss. Look for the issue with the Ducati Monster S4R on the cover...

I read that article standing at the news stand...a bit light, like most Robb Report articles. I've purchased Robb Report a few times, but not for the writing--they have great pics, is all I can really say!

Kinda like the late, lamented "Cycle Guide" magazine. The articles weren't great but the photography was awesome. Unlike Playboy, I bought it for the pictures.

But seriously, the Robb Report featured a black XB12Ss which is strange because EVERYONE knows orange is a faster color!

Cycle Guide had some fabulous writing in the late 70's. I just reread a story called "Running On Empty" from Cycle Guide in 1978, a great article about touring through Oregon.

The article really grabs your attention with the first paragraphs. It begins with a pick-up truck almost taking out the author.

Great, great story. It makes you want to strap a sleeping bag and tent to your bike and hit the open road. I'll send you a copy of it if you PM me a mailing address.

'78 is before I got into motorcycling. I didn't become really aware of the motorcycling scene till 1982 when I bought my first bike (a 1982 Yamaha XJ550RJ SECA). Those were the good days: Cycle, Cycle World, Cycle Guide, Motorcyclist, Road Rider, Rider...
