"The one and only thing I like about having plastic body parts: they're freakin' cheap!"

...and they are starting to look cheap as well.

Speaking of Ducati. They have updated their 2007 range page slightly.

Curiously no SuperSports or 749/848? SuperBikes for 07 so far

I do like the comparason between the Duc and the Buell. One bike you can buy one you can't. People like the bike you can't buy and can't ride. Now if Ducati could figure out how to make it we could compare the two.

I still say Buell has the most advanced platform in the world, why do they need to release a new platform?

I think the Ducati is ugly.

I like the addition of another model choice in the long wheelbase family. Where I live I've thought on many occasions while out riding my Ss that it was like TT racing with the crappy road conditions around here... like hitting a depression mid corner at high bank angle and launching out with both tires leaving the ground... and coming back down smoothly and most importantly, not phased or scared one bit. The XB chassis is so stiff that it handles that situation beautifully! With all the torque, the XB can be fishtailed sideways very easily with confidence too. I ride really aggressively. I think having this model option makes sense. There are times I could have used the extra suspension travel (my muffler has a big dent in now : (). If I could afford another, I'd buy an STT purely for aggressive riding and keep my Ss for when I need to haul a passenger.

If you don't like it, there are many other pleasing models to choose from. Many people remove their passenger footpeg brackets anyway. I have. But sometimes need to put them back on for a passenger. I think this model ought to come with the brackets too just in case. It would be gay if you had to buy them separately.

However, I too am anxiously waiting for the RR engine for the street!

The number plates kinda go with the number plate-style flyscreen we've had on our Lightnings for years now.

Has anyone noticed the new tailpipe design?... http://www.147db.com/varie/xb12stt.jpg

Also... 2007 is the 100th anniversary for the Isle of Man TT! Cool to have a model named for it! Buell is cool to think of that! My favorite motorcycle race! Thanks Buell!! Cool new model!

Dave, which bike can't we buy (or in the case of Buell - won't buy)? Looks like the "HyperMotard" is an 07 model.

Has anyone noticed the new tailpipe design?...

45- I noticed that too. I'm wondering: Harley was able to slightly increase the loudness of their exhaust systems this year due to decreased noise from the new dog-ring transmissions. Buell went to the dog-ring transmissions in 2006; maybe they're just getting around to changing their mufflers?

The hypermotard was at LAST YEARS bike show in Long Beach, and it certainly will be available in short order, if not already so.

New muffler? HA! They just pointed the outlet away from your boot.

Sad...

I have four words for you all to consider when comparing the two bikes:

POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO

Buell just got pwned on this thing

20 lbs. of weight. Big deal. 3.7 lbs./hp compared to 3.8. Where the weight is carried matters more than those 20 lbs. Some riders could lose that in a diet plan. Anyway... the type of bike and the class that the STT fits in makes better sense as a TT-type bike than a Super-Moto. I think it's cool... Super TT.

"I think the Ducati is ugly."

I like parts of it. I like the Hypermotard headlight and handguards, and despite the advantage of the Buell underslung muffler, I prefer the look of the high, underseat designs, especially when they're in pairs. However, I despise with all my being the Ducati trellis frames. They're hideous, like someone decided to incorporate a ladder or someone's back porch decking into a bike design.

The Ducati Hypermotard is old news. They tossed the bait last year like Honda has been doing with the NAS.

I'm reserving judgement on the TT until I ride one later this week.

"I'm reserving judgement on the TT until I ride one later this week."

Court, you can go ahead and tell us you love it now. Save yourself some time next week.

You guys should check out those handguard/mirrors on the Ducati Hypermotard. The bar end mirrors fold in to complete the handguard! They could probably easily be put on an CityX to eliminate the mickey mouse ears.

Buell is getting good at the whole multiple purpose thing. I suppose the number plates on the TT could be used as lunch trays in a pinch.

Court,

I think everyone here was looking for a second head or a third arm. The bike is as good or slightly better than anything currently on the market from Buell. Based on the hype and secrecy, I think everyone was wanting something more radical than status quo Buell radical.

Pwnzor, your the one owned if you think Ducatti will build a street legal version of that bike without some significant changes.

I like the TT! I have to start saving my pennies to put one of those beaks on my 9sx, that would look very cool. I wish my 9sx had come with that suspension travel.

I terms of bang for the buck I still like the 9sx though.

This is an early April fools stunt, right? I just don't see how Buell would release something that looks so unfinished. The parts, especially the number plate winges, look like a tacked on afterthought. Come on Buell, you're better than this! I like the concept, but the execution is off here.

Reep, the Hypermotard is ready to go, they did add a second disc upfront and increase it 100cc. Check out it's hanguard/mirrors. Pretty cool and they would probably fit on your bike. Although I think you already built your own barend mirror/handguard's though.

Neat contest but it's actually it's own model??? The only differences are seat, front fender and sideplates. The rest is just parts from the 9SX and really the front fender is just a Ully. I'm not sure how hard that would be to fit one of those onto a 12S.

I think a more useful model would be a XB12RT; a 12R with an extended wind screen, 12Ss geometry, a comfortable riding position, 2-up seat and bags.
Something more dedicated to sport-touring than the Ully. The Ully seems to be serving double duty as the dual-purpose and touring buell model.

It is quite ambitious to refer to number plates, new handlebars, slightly different spring length, and new seat as an all new model The STT is 98% the same as a several existing Buells. There is nothing there that couldn't be easily recreated in the garages of many people on Badweb. I really wish there was some substance behind the marketing campaign.

I really hope that Buell doesn't get to the point where performance and innovation take a back seat to cosmetics and marketing (see HD).

I guess Buell won't need to sell many of these to recoup the development costs.

As I noted on another thread, if you use soft saddle bags the "number plates" could
be a very welcome addition. Especially since so many people remove the passenger
pegs anyway.

It's not the bike for me obviously, I'd be teetering and falling to the left at every
other stop light, but I can see function in the bike.

I'd swap an 03 white "r" fender onto it and lose the beak. But thats just me.

I hate to say it, but that's probably what I'm buying in January.

But... It'll end up having a ULY tail saction, hard bags, and most likely the ULY "fairing".

Anybody wanna buy a white airbox cover and fly screen? : )

To me it sounds like they are following HD's path at repackaging the same product and stamping a new name on it. I would have liked if they make the extra stuff they put on that bike accessories for people to buy but not turn it into a completely new bike. I was hoping of a lighter more powerful replacement for the blast.

they probably just forgot to mention the 6speed gearbox..

JScott... If it's really that thin, then it is either going to have an absurdly short fuel range, or very low power. I see a place that may *barely* have enough room for an appropriate airbox for a twin, *or* a place for "not quite enough gas", but not for both.

I did some googling...
http://www.visordown.com/articles/view/exclusive_s py_shots_of_ducati_hypermotard_on_test/171.html

So it does look fairly close to production, but notice they were spotted at a gas station : ) 20 mile fuel range : )

I see a lot of plastic jugs showing through the trellis as well in that spy shot, and thats a pretty ugly cat / collector in back there. And in the final production form it's not looking much lighter then a multi-strada...

Still, cool bike though.

HELMET.

Buell is losing its direction. SPORTBIKES is the name here. Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken.
I'm very unamused.
