If Buell hadn't created the XB models, would you have considered another model of Buell? I'm talking about one of the tube-framed models. Obviously, you can't buy them new now, but if Buell never made the XB line, would you still have considered a tube-frame?
Myself, I would probably say no. No disrespect to our fellow Buellers, and I think the older Lightning and Cyclone models look cool, but it was the XB line that brought me to Buell. If I didn't get my 9R, I probably would have gone toward 2-valve Ducatis or a Triumph. Actually, I came damn close to getting a Speed Four before the XB came along.
And if not another Buell, what bike would you have wanted?

I agree....when i sold my R1 i discovered the XB series. If not for my 9S i'd want a ducati s2r or s4r.

Since you posted this in the XB section you might only get -- XB positive comments.

I like my tuber x1. I enjoy the look of the visible motor. Plus I like the fact that it does NOT look like a "jap" bike.

Having owned a sportster, s1w, BMW r110sa, and now an x1. I like a twin powerplant that is visible.

Plus I like my x1 becuase I can wrench on it with out the need for a computer! Since I pulled the FI and ECM out. Not to mention the 115ish HP to the wheel!

If not for the XB... I would have probably ended up on a Moto Guzzi Nero Corsa, or a Honda RC51.
Well that would have probably been the case if my friend's friend hadn't stopped by with his "race" XB9R and let me take it for a spin. It was love at first ride (I have never been fond of the looks of the XBR, and still am a bit iffy);but it was so comfy, so torquey, and sounded so great with the ti-force exhaust system.

I still want the guzzi though...sexy...

Its so big, heavy and has fabulous wind protection... not to mention ohlins and brembo all around

The two bikes on my short list the last time I was buying in 2000 was a Ducati S2 Monster and a Buell M2. I think I made the right decision.

I'll get another Buell, but I think I'll wait for the next generation.

I had planned on getting a Speed Triple, and I still like them.

I bought a Blast as a "re-entry " vehicle.
I hadn't been riding for many years, and the last bike I had was an English 500 cc. Single.

That's how I got acquainted with Buell and when a great deal on a leftover XB9S showed up, I jumped on it, so to speak.
Never regretted it.

If I were going to buy a different brand right now, and price were no object, my short list would be:

1. Aprilia Tuono Factory
2. 2006 Speed Triple
3. Ducati SR4s

I still like my "girls" naked!

If not an XB? Possibly nothing.

My old bike was old. Simply hadn't run across another bike in 15 years that could pry unfunded dollars from the budget...

The 9R (thank you Erik) and a no money down loan (thank you HD) changed all that.

Yes Ill be honost i would have considered a tuber. i didn't plan on getting my 12s (which i just got off of with my frame pucks installed haha) i like the s1s and x1s, especially the white lightnings, racing stripe edition, carbon fiber/kevlar edition and of course the millenium edition. i love my xb and side by side id pick her again but on the other hand if i was rich beyond belief i'd probably have a tuber or 2.

Hmm... no tuber for me. If not XB, probably get a Monster (still want one), or Triumph Speed Four or Speed Tripple, or (so many choices!) ... one of the other Italian naked exotics.

I was this |......| close to a 748 Ducati when I decided on the XB9 for racing.

If it wasn't an XB - knowing what I know now, I'd probably throw the money into a much-modified SV650 and spank it hard. I don't know if I could bring myself to hammer a 748 with such reckless abandon.

How cool, a water buffalo, had a X6, T500, GT380. The Suzuki dealer thought after all those he could unload the RE5 on me.
Didn't happen. Still wish I had the T500 though...................................

I bought a new Speed Triple in 2001 which was wrecked in 6/04. I had a chance to demo ride an XB9 the previous year and I liked it, but felt it was underpowered. As soon as I received the insurance check for the Triumph I bought the XB12S and I'm glad I did. I would NOT have bought one of the earlier tube frame buells because of warranty concerns. I love my Lightning!

Had my sights on a Senna colored Ducati SS or Monster. Just loved that color combo.

Now the new Triumph 675 is VERY intriguing to me.

It'll be a while before I decide to part with my XB (if ever), but heres to wishful thinking of a road going XBRR that can go alongside my XB9S!

I would look for, and still am looking for to add to my garage, a clean NC 30 or RVF 400

It's another backroad carving tool that is unique, but a completely different powerband and look from the XB-

I never really understood the Ducati SS... are they for touring? but then why are they referred to as supersports?
If anything Ducati's superbikes should be the supersports...? BAH!
Could someone please resolve my confusion...

I guess the answer to the question is no I would not have a Buell. It seemed to me that the tubers were just full of problems and while I loved the WL, thats what started me getting into Buells, I never liked the X1 styling, and they just seem prone to problems. In 98 I seriously considered the WL, the R1, which had only just debuted, and the SuperHawk. I shot down the middle with the Honda. The comments about the seat on the MO Bikini shootout are what talked me out of it, and if I recall correctly, motor mounts cracking or headers or something. FOr 10k I didn't think I should have to put up with that, especially when similar money could by the R1 or TLS.

But when I first saw the XB, I knew that was it, they had turned the corner for me and I could buy it without compromise. Breadbox gone - check written -

When I bought my CityX last year, it was down to the Buell, a CBR1000, and a ZX10. There were amazing deals to be had on them all, but I figured I didn't need 150+hp at the wheel! I have been lucky enough to ride a good number of sportbikes over the last twelve years (and have been blown away by the newer 1000's), but I wanted something a little funky and fun to ride around town (I also own a TL1000S and an FZR400). I am so glad I picked the Buell. It is a blast around town, but even more fun once out in the hills.

Like a lot of us, I was very intrigued by the mid-90's tuber Buells but was scared away due to the well-documented 'issues' they had. At the time, I owned a 900SS Ducati and loved every second of it until my cousin wadded it one weekend!

Anyway, there are a lot of parallels between the older Supersports and the XB's. They are both sort of 'left field' choices, they both take a few rides to get the hang of, they both need some love in the form of an aftermarket exhaust and suspension tuning, they both respond better the harder you push the bike, and they both have a real fun factor that a lot of bigger/faster bikes seem to lack.

I cannot wait to see what Buell comes out with in the next few years because every generation of Buells has been a quantum leap over the previous.

It was the 2001 X1 white lightning that first caught my attention, so I would have to say yes, I would have bought an X1. I still think it is a sexier looking bike, though I have no regrets with my XB12ss.

When I started looking I went and looked at Jap i4 600s to start with but didn't like riding so far over. I allways wanted a harley and thought about a super glide sport.then decided to look at buells. Love at first ride 03XB9SL. Kind of best of both worlds!!
