X1, My fetal pig also has rust spots on it - they appeared after I got caught in a storm. Oddly enough, though, I think it's just a stain that will not come off of the ceramic coat - not the muffler itself actually rusting. Still pisses me off. Bryan | ||

Hi That Blackbolt looks good Saw the XB9S at the NEC show yesterday looks real nice good riding position also saw the New Aprilia TUONO very nice 132 hp as standard and can be chipped for more power Was talking to Buell rep on the dislay he mentioned about the white wire coming out of the ecm and that if you cut it it will alter the torque of the bike in a good way and that the race ecm has not got this wire there also he mentioned about a big bore kit that buell are doing does any one know if this is going to be around soon and can anyone confirm about the white wire on another note have gone through both front and rear tyres on the bolt at 2350 miles does this bike handle or what  thanks if anyone from the uk is reading this do you know of any competent engine guys who could fit Nallin gear for me ie Heads barrels etc Bye for now Wayne | ||

that black is sinister and beautiful at the same time. if you gotta have silver, put some small silver badges on somewhere, but IMO keep the black the way it is, such a clean look, and you wont find another one like it. someone else might go black, but put flames or stripes on there and mess it up. its clean, keep it that way. Wheres blackmotorcycle when you want him to say something good for a change? Ken | ||

Archer, Nice job! The stripes *might* look good but I'm more inclined to agree with Ken. The bike has great clean lines all on it's own. I do think if you could get the "BUELL" raised lettering in silver to match the frame/swingarm it would look very sano/factory, yet different at the same time. But this is just my .02, do what *you* want by all means. Timbo PS Probably a good thing you don't live in Oakland. That bike would be stolen in a heartbeat. | ||

Archer get the "black chrome" tank badges from the 9S that would look sweeeeeeet. But just put the Buell on leave off the "American motorcycles" cause in the back ground of that sticker is XB9S | ||

I was thinking about doing the heel guards in the same black. Also thought about the silver raised lettering as well that's on the black 9S. I don't know yet ....the more I look at it the more I like just the straight black. Thinking about taking the mirrors off. When I get my force pipe the header will be silver so that takes care of the header color and the rusty muffler. Also just picked up some trick Xenon headlamp bulbs that are retina searing bright! It's definetly coming along. Now I'm thinking about powder coating the forks or the triple trees gloss black. What do ya'll think about wheels for this thing? Guys at the shop want me to chrome them but I was thinking of gloss black with a polished rim. Opinions???? | ||

Archer, What would look really cool is if you could powder coat just the outside part of the rim gloss black and leave the "spokes" and hubs silver. It would go with the whole black on silver concept the bike has. It would also be retro and new at the same time, look at the old vintage factory racers, many had black rims/w polished spokes and hubs. Not sure if that's possible though, and it would have to be done *right* to do it justice. Again, just my .02 Sounds like you are having fun with the ideas. Timbo | ||

Yeah that would look good! had to go back and look at the pic to get a mental picture but I like the idea. Wuold also eliminate me having to keep up that damn polished rim <--------(lazy). I want to have fun with this and be different. I'm thinking about doing the underpan in the same paint. Haven't gotten any feed back on powder coating the triple trees or the forks and lowers. Well, I took the plunge and bought the full race kit. The dealer had 20% off today so I got the full kit and the $56.00 service manual for $570. Any tips on installing the muffler that I should know about? Can the bike be run with the muffler and not the new ECM until I get it to the dealer for the ECM install and TPS reset? Or should I try the ECM and see if it will run ok to get it there(30miles)? I'm used to Harleys that say you shouldnt run with new pipes until you rejet. Taking the bike in next friday for the 2500 mile service and they said the TPS reset is no problem to do then. Thanks guys for any info | ||

Hi Roy, After doing the parts swap mine needed the TPS reset. It didn't want to idle and the throttle was a little erratic, like it was either on or off, no in between. But after the TPS reset and idle adjustment, all is smooth and fine again. FWIW, I have also heard of some bikes not needing the TPS reset after installing the race kit. It's up to you. Doing the install is easy, just read the sections of your manual the cover those parts before you begin and keep it handy while doing the work. Timbo | ||

My bike seemed to run GREAT, a) with just the muffler/air filter and stock ECM, and, b) with the full kit and no TPS reset. I only rode it about a mile in configuration "a" and about a 5-mile loop in configuration "b". Both felt fine (and fast and loud). Kinda concerned about holing a piston or something if the mixture was way off, so I trailered it to a Chattanooga Buell dealer who just performed the reset. Picking it up Tuesday (and hoping the weather's nice). Up for a ride Wed if anyone's interested (fasteddieb@aol.com) Will report more later... | ||

Para, be careful with that ECM. Darth Ane's wouldn't even start. I had to bring the Scan tool home and reset it in the garage. You can run the new pipe to the dealer with no Major problems but don't run it too long. | ||

well, after reading all the directions, I think I will let the dealer put he muffler on. Loosening axles and other important stuff sounds kinda scary to me. Plus, I dont own a torque wrench to put the stuff back together. I can handle the ECM but have a question first.. If I put the new ECM in and it wont run right, will putting the original back in fix it? Hate to pay $60 an hour for nuts and bolts that I'm comfortable doing. Did put the new air cleaner in with the worst part being that damn snorkle! thanks again | ||

Most artists are critical of others work. Mr. Kerr has penned quite a few notables. One that we had a chance to buy for a couple of years but didn’t was the Yamaha TDM. Remember it is all a mater of perspective. Something may look better when it is unobtainable. Buell motorcycles are world class pieces of engineering. To some that have had problems I can understand, having owned from the mid 70’s nothing but Yamaha motorcycles in all engine configurations, singles, vertical twins, air and water cooled v twins triples and inline fours. I have had failures mechanical and electrical. To me Buells note in the sales literature to me rings clear; "Some companies build concept bikes. We sell them." Tim | ||

I like the XB9S Lightning. I really do. I think it's overpriced but I like it. That said, it's fun to read what others say about the bike, like "(push rod V-Twin aside)" & "Whatever Eric [sic] Buell's other attributes, art connoisseur is clearly not one of them." So, OK, it's overpriced, underpowered, and ugly but I like it just the same. Kind of reminds me of some of the girls I dated in high school. | ||

JQ, The answer is pretty simply to me. Mr. Kerr is an opinionated ignorant jackass. He is probably salibating all over the upcoming KTM twin's styling. Of course that's my opinion.  FastEddieB, The TN dealer made you leave the bike just for a TPS reset? If that is the case, please, before you take it home, be sure to ride it around the dealership area enough to be sure that they did it correctly. TPS reset is a 10 minute operation for a skilled technician. |
