I recently purchased a 2003 XB9R and changed the fluids at 2,500 with HD oil and trans fluid recommended in the owners manual. I have pretty much decided to switch to synthetic fluids with my next fluids change (about 2,000 miles from now at the 5,000 mile mark). I am leaning toward the VTwin Mobile 1 Oil 20W50 and their trans fluid, Mobile 1 75W90. For those of you using this product, I would be interested in your response to the following thing 1.)What model Buell? 2.) Do you use both their oil and trans fluid? 3.)How many miles has it been since you started using it? 4.)What, if any engine or trans issues or problems have you had? Thanks for your input |

Truk - I actually run AMSOIL. Wears better than most, and is usually used in the choppers where big engines create a lot of heat. I've got an 04XB12R - have about 4000 miles since I switched...will be switching to AMSOIL for the trans fluid too. No problems with the engine at all. |

1. XB12R, '04, 11,500 miles 2. Yes 3. 9,000 4. Failed transmission output shaft seal. Replaced under warranty. I have NO idea what caused it. I did down-shift ONCE w/o using the clutch on accident, but I've done it twice since (both on accident) since and no trouble... Probably just a bad one I would guess... |

1) XB9S '03 2) Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W50 in engine and trans.. 3) About 2400 miles. 4) With time, the trans. has run a bit smoother than it did when I purchased the motorcycle. The transmissions tend to be a bit rough when new. I don't know for certain if the use of Mobil 1 helped this or not. I'll be changing the oil this weekend, and will be using Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W50. |

1.)What model Buell? 2005 XB9SX 1.)2.) Do you use both their oil and trans fluid? I use the Mobil 1 15/50 oil and Mobil 1 75/90 gear oil 1.)3.)How many miles has it been since you started using it? About 4000 now. 1.)4.)What, if any engine or trans issues or problems have you had? None, trans. seems to shift much easier now and I feel that the engine runs a bit cooler. |

1. 2000 S3 2. V-twin in the engine, 75W-90 in the trans 3. ~3100 miles 4. No problems See my previous thread about Mobil-1 V-twin 20W-50 availability. Autozone used to stock it in all their stores but my local stores (Charleston, SC) have stopped. The Autozone website now says "Your dealer can special order this product." This apparently applies to ALL their stores. One BadWebber said his local Autozone (Arizona?) still stocks it. Some WalMarts evidently stock it; none around me do. My point- make sure you can find it easily enough to suit you before you decide on using it. I had to switch to HD Syn 3 at my last oil change. Would go back to Mobil if I could find a local source. I see you're in Lexington; if you've found it someplace up there I'd like to know about it. (Message edited by whodom on March 11, 2005) |

Auto Zone had taken it off the shelf here too. If I could order it thru them that might not be too bad. I haven't checked Wally World yet. I would like to try and find one brand and stick with it, and have it easily accessible. Performance Auto just started carrying Red Line, but didn't have any 20W50 on the shelfs. I am close friends with the Triumph Dealer here in my area and he carries Amsol(sp). I could also do the HD Synthetic and get that from the Harley dealer. But I was leaning toward Mobile 1.... |

1.)What model Buell? 2003 XB9R 2.) Do you use both their oil and trans fluid? No, Red Cap 15/50 in both. 3.)How many miles has it been since you started using it? 7500 4.)What, if any engine or trans issues or problems have you had? None, trans. seems to shift much easier now and I feel that the engine runs a lot cooler which is very important in 120 deg weather. |

Red Cap in the engine at 1000 Miles. M1 75-90 in trans at 250M Bike at 6800 miles now. Trans runs like a diff unit, much better. Engine is great too. |

1) Same as you 2) Yes 3) ~14K or so 4) None - Transmission is much happier, but since I went synth at ~2500 miles or so it's rather subjective from my point of view as to whether that's simply the tranny getting more and more broken in or if it's a function of the better oil - or both. |
