I merged onto the freeway revved up and shifted. As i pasted a car in the right lane I looked over to my right and she mouthed, "Too loud." I don't think the Rt-3 is that loud. I still chuckled. | ||

YEah, it is too loud, especially if you "revved up" as you passed her. Probably startled her. Next time pretend it's your wife, mother or some other person you care about. maybe you will have some consideration for that person? You sound proud of riding like a jerk. Congratulations. PS--Hopefully you don't paste a car, that might have consequences. | ||

What, so I will decelerate as I overtake a car? Jeez. In fact I better not get on and ride at all since I'll just be a nuisance. Hell I thought revving your bike was part of the process of getting up to speed. Not to mention part of the fun of owning a nice pipe. I love the fact that the 1125 piped sounds like a war machine. I also love the sound of an open piped Harley getting on it. Really, no apologies from me. We should just change the thread topic to, "how to be a dick in traffic, and how to get people on a thread to wave their finger at you like they haven't ever done this too." Keep it loud boys. That way they hear you coming.  | ||

Class act. Consideration for others is a learned trait and obviously you don't have it. As long as you "love" it, it doesn't matter what others think, right? You do know the number one complaint about motorcycles is noise, right? You do know that motorcyclists are in the extreme minority, right? You do know the majority can vote restrictions on our right to ride, right? You can have a loud pipe and not be an •••••••, but you obvious choose to spread your noise pollution as much as possible. ...and then to come on here an brag about your loud pipe! way to go, dude! Once in a while Fresno, get out of Kalifornia and see what living in a free state is like and where you can enjoy riding a bike for fun and listening to a nice, maybe loud pipe, enjoying your ride and not be hassled by motorcycle haters and even LEO's that enjoy what your doing. Its a sport my friend. Just ride safely. Bob, in the great free state of Utah. We even have fighter jets breaking the sound barrier regularly at Hill AFB. | ||

As do we (fighter jets, F-15 & F-18's) here, but it's usually more takeoff's and landings followed by full power touch and go's. Kinda neat to hear them screaming along the runway when I make it over to Lambert. Production of them has slowed somewhat, but they're still being made right here in STL. Btw, my favorite noisemaking spot is the tunnel under the airport. 2nd gear, WOT, it echos like you wouldn't believe in that 4 lane tunnel. The po-po knows I'm a headed through when I hit it hard there. | ||

This afternoon I was getting fuel in the truck and for the lawn equipment, some guy on a nice looking Victory is fueling and when he finishes he lights the thing up and raps the throttle, the woman behind me windows closed winces as if in pain, His muffler was a gutted megaphone, Instantly I had south park in my head "Blub-blub-blub-blub" sorry folks ear splitting exhausts and abrupt use of the throttle to get attention when its not needed is not going to make us any friends. | ||

I assume you were reading her lips, because if you could hear her, it obviously wasn't too loud! Maybe she was mouthing, "oh, wow!" You should have offered her a ride. | ||

Loud just for the sake of being loud escapes me. I still have stock muffler. Like the sound it makes when I make the motor work. I do like the Barker muffler though. | ||

I have a drummer and love the way it sounds, pounding at idle and roaring at speed. People def know where I am when splitting traffic and navigating a parking lot. I have never been hassled by police for any loud pipe on any bike. That being said I also try to be respectful and not piss off my neighbors and fellow road users. I think we are in a vulnerable spot with riding and legislation seems to just keep coming. Laws limiting areas we can ride, aftermarket options for street bikes. You name it. We do need to be respectful of other people.... but damn its also fun raising hell and tearing around on a beast of V twin superbike.. total catch 22 | ||

Trooper once told me he doesn't mind the loud exhaust on bikes as people notice the bike more. I would gather that if I got run over they couldn't say they didn't hear me. I don't rev it just for the sake of it, only to get up to speed. | ||

Just wait for the electric bikes to take over....no one will hear them coming. They had the FIM championship at Indy last year and it was sureal seeing these superfast bikes with no sound. My Aprilia Caponord still had the stock exhaust on it. Quiet as a mouse. Had a car almost pull right into me on a country road where the intersections are hidden by corn. I like my stock exhaust note but I do suffer in traffic due to inattentive drivers. They don't even seem to notice my horn though either. Time for a PIAA unless there is something louder like a RT-3. | ||

I assume you were reading her lips, because if you could hear her, The guy on the vic- hand left at the point that we were speaking, and I was in my truck filling it and my gas cans, ( not to mention I was about as un-appetizing as I could be ) At 20 feet The Vic was just short of pain for me, she was several feet closer in a car windows up and she covered her ear when the guy rapped the throttle, I was watching it was a reflex reaction like a blink or sneeze } | ||

I keep my rpm fun to these great canyons here and always respect other folks serenity to enjoy. "Time and place for everything" as we old school guys say. Thanks much for the reminder. | ||

State law has nothing to do with this thread nor my opinion on offensive motorcyclists, my friend. It's about the bigger picture and respect for others, which is declining rapidly. PS--When the federal gov't comes up with restrictions on motorcycles, your great State of Utah will not have a choice in the matter. | ||

Fresno, per your request on the other thread regarding my custom bearing installer. This is for tubers and this is the rear wheel bearing installer only. I took the original rear wheel axle to my friends at Central Machining in Waukesha and they made this up from the physical axle and their memory of what I needed. Works great! As a former harley and chopper rider, I gotta say I disagree with anyone complaining about the loud pipes. I am as quiet in my neighborhood as I can be. When I am on the road, I can't be loud enough. | ||

My 96 S1 with an empty megaphone D&D will wake up the dead. This big dog barks, perfect for the city where threats come often! My CR has the Race module and an empty Barker with the bigger silencer. I always shift before I get to the back of a car I am overtaking. This is the best of both worlds, they know you are coming and they know you are trying to be nice. | ||

The Barker with a 2" opening makes my ears ring in a 1/2 hr. I use a 1 1/2" quite core ok then. Go real fast so you can coast by the car your passing 110MPH should do it  | ||

When I am on the road, I can't be loud enough. Funny, I have ZERO problems with my stock-piped Ulysses, S2, and CR. Because I PAY ATTENTION. Relying on a "loud pipe" to make other people pay attention...still relies on THEM to do what YOU should be doing. Take responsibility for yourself. Pay attention to your surroundings. Don't expect other people to watch out for you - watch out for YOURSELF. And show some respect. My neighbor fires up his FLHTCU every morning at 4am. Heat of summer or cold of winter, it's not as big a deal - windows are closed. Now? Windows open because of nice weather? It's all I can do not to get my gun and shoot the bastard. I do have Buell race exhausts on my M2L, and my S1W - for performance. And I keep them packed properly - they don't crackle, they aren't nearly as loud as even SE-II pipes on a Sportster, and I don't whack the throttle so I can get my jollies on the noise. I also don't ride them to work - they are strictly weekend-daytime-toys. If loud pipes save lives...imagine what actually LEARNING TO RIDE could do for you. Ratbuell... I always pay attention, but to give someone else a warning that I am around is never a bad idea. I have been riding a long time. In fact I helped teach a riding course. There is being loud on the road and there is being a butt. Your neighbor is a butt. Note I said ON THE ROAD. I love the superiority complex. | ||

Give up on "them"...use that energy for your own focus. I did, years ago. I have all the energy I need to be attentive and predict their bonehead actions as best I can...and IF they pay attention, that's just a bonus. Lowest common denominator. Assume that's all you're gonna get, and you'll never be disappointed (or roadkill). | ||

Loud exhausts are loud BEHIND the motorcycle. Google "doppler effect". And...which way is your exhaust pointed? Same as the headlight? Or...out the back? If you're teaching that being loud helps, in a COURSE?? Tell me what state, so I can avoid it. |
