DIY 1125 Engine Stand - I used material I had.

Material needed:
Approx. 7 ft. 1-1/2" Square tubing
Approx. 14" 1" Square tubing
Approx. 18" 1" x 1/4" bar stock
Approx. 4" 5/8" OD, 3/8" ID tubing
Two (2) M8 x 140 mm bolts with nuts and washers

Stand mounts in two locations: At lower oil cooler mounts, and at location indicated by finger;

Overall width of base 16", overall length 21". The center is 1-1/2" x 3" material, but two 1-1/2" pieces will do the same thing.

Two uprights, front (yoke) was 1" sq. material, rear was 1-1/2" sq. Center to center 17-5/8".

Yoke mounts to lower oil cooler mount. Inside clear distance is 4-1/8". C/L bolt is 10-1/2" above base.

Rear mount cannot be constructed vertically because engine case is in the way, so you have to offset the mount as shown. Also, only one mount point on the rear. C/L of bolt approx. 11-1/2" above base. Rear mount is located approx. 17" rear of C/L of front mount.

Finally, rear mount is offset from C/L of stand as indicated.

This set-up allows you to mount engine stand on the bike, then remove wheels to lower bike onto the stand for happy times.

A couple of suggestions during fabrication. Build the base and front yoke first. You can see that in the last photo, the rear upright isn't exactly centered. Make the rear mount, then bolt up to engine to finalize rear mount position before welding it in place. After fabrication, I found it is easiest to bolt up the rear first, then rotate the stand to mount up the front yoke, not the other way around.

You could take this thread to a local welder and get one of these made up out of ordinary steel for about $150-$200 I bet.

This really is one of the most useful tools you can have when it comes time for the bigger service jobs, in particular the valve service.

Oh, and the same stand seems to work on both 1125r and 1190 models. Amazing!

One quick question were you using .120 Wall on the square tube or something thinner?

I spoke with Stirz007, we worked out the details, he can go ahead with making and selling the stands here.

Thanks guys. If there is enough interest, I'd be willing to crank some of these out for the BW community. They would run about $125 bare steel (same as shown in my post), $150 for 'deluxe' (powdercoated with plugged openings). Plus shipping cost. I'll need about two weeks turnaround time.

Yankee - yes, 11ga., or 0.120 wall is what I used. It's thick enough to take welds well and can support the entire weight of the bike.

If you want one, the best thing to do is PM me with the following info: whether you want plain steel or powdercoated, color preference if powdercoated, and your address so I can quote shipping. I will get back to you as soon as I can to finalize cost. PayPal is preferred payment method. Thanks!!

One thing I see is you're using Pitbull stands, I assume you used them for both front and rear. I don't know if there's a lifted height difference if you use another brand of stand, but it would be worth investigating. If the other brands don't lift as high up, the stand may be a bit tall. I do like it though.

Having used a couple of other brands of stands on other bikes, I would never use anything but a pitbull on my bike.

All the other stands I've tried suck.

Engine Stand is designed to allow mounting regardless of Wheel/Front stands used. If the bike is level, you can mount up with both wheels on the ground. Stands make life easier.

Unless bare steel or powdercoat (deeelucks) is specifically requested, you will get mystery paint as an added bonus. Primed and skillfully painted using only the finest aerosol can paint I happen to need to get rid of.

Kesnei - bare steel shipped today

Smoke4ndmears - shipped today:

Thanks to Stirz007, I also have one coming. I will try to put screw machine mounts on the corners upon arrival, which will allow height adjustment to bear load while disassembling and assembly operations.

Out of curiosity, would you be willing to try and make a engine stand for the XBs?

I think I will defiantly get one of these as soon as I have the extra money.
