Here is the latest member of the family. My new 2013 Camaro ZL1. I am proud of the American engineering that has gone into both of these vehicles. I've never experienced such street legal brutal force.

Sorry it took me so long to post pics! I've been too busy driving!

Cheers

Rob,

Unfortunately I had to get the auto because the wife can't drive stick. In the end, I could have still gotten the manual and taught her but Dallas traffic is atrocious.

Also the automatic is slightly faster. Top speed 184 mph vs 180. 0 to 60 with drag radials is 3.7 sec vs 4 with the stick.

The car also has paddle shifters that let me completely control the engine like a manual and it even blips the throttle.

In the end I may end up with a manual before the production run ends in 2015.

Snack, when you have that much power, you don't need a stick. I'm hoping for an onboard video, maybe featuring some new material!?

This thing is a complete monster. I will be posting a new short featuring both the bike and the car. Yes this automatic is unlike any I have ever experienced. It knows what you want when you stomp on it and is a complete pussy cat under light throttle with no abrupt shifts. The magnetic ride control is really next generation stuff. The suspension is able to read the road 1000x per second and make adjustments almost before you ever hit that mid corner bump or pothole.

I work for Chevrolet and it still amazes me the thought and engineering put into the ZL1.

I am curious though which one you will find yourself using more.

I keep toying at the idea of building myself a Camaro SS or 1LE (can't afford the ZL1). I just don't know if it would be worth it.

I'm in Chicago so when its nice enough out I'm on the bike rain or shine (just depends on temp). Just not sure if I'll use the Camaro.

I have a Silverado for the winter and bike for the end of winter to start of winter.

Craig,

The 1LE is the best handling Camaro ever built says race car driver Randy Probst. I was very close to owning one instead of the ZL1. It is quite a bargain at 37k.

I haven't moved the bike in a very long time prior to taking that picture. I just can't stop driving this thing. This car gets stares very similar to but only more so than the XB series while cruising or parked. It sounds like a caged lion at start up but is very quiet during cruising.

I wasn't gonna give you crap about getting a ZL1 instead of a GT500... until I saw that you got an automatic. C'mon, dude, no matter how good an automatic is, it's just not the same as having the third pedal.

Also, that thing's probably not any faster than my pullied '04 Cobra. LOL!

Okay, okay, the ZL1 is still a pretty cool car.

Congrats Snackbar.

Fleshrocket, if the transmission is a 6-speed auto, then it's BETTER than the manual 6-speed. Or is the manual a 7-speed? My car has a 6-speed auto with full manual control available. Trust me, it is much faster in shifting than the manual.

Rogue_biker, it's not about performance, it's about the control and involvement I get from rowing the shifter and working the clutch myself.

Ferrari doesn't offer a single new model with a clutch pedal, presumably because the automated manuals are faster at the drag strip. Not that I'm in the market for an exotic, but if I was, Ferrari would be off the list.

Save the manuals!

Alright, enough talk about sissy-ass cars. This is a super bad-ass BUELL 1125 MOTORCYCLE site! If this continues, I'll start talking about my Miata!!

BTW, it has a stick! And a BUELL sticker.

Flesh

This sold me on the automatic, because I had the same reservations as you believing I was missing out on performance by getting it. Come to find out it was the other way around.

Those are sweet! They go great together. You should hold on to the R, she complements the ZL1 nicely.

The automatic transmission is faster, but gaining 0.1s on a 0-60 time is not that important. Driving a car where it does everything for you takes all the fun out of the experience, IMHO. If Buell made a motorcycle with "paddle shift", would any of yall buy it?
Part of driving anything is being in total control of the machine.

To each their own, though.

Rob,

Other than the fact that I don't have to press a clutch,I have the same level of control over the engine as anyone driving a manual. It will not upshift or downshift until I make it do so by tapping the shifter behind the steering wheel.

They turn with the wheel and I never have to take my hands off the wheel to initiate a shift which happens quite frequently driving a stick midcorner on a road course. If this was your ordinary automatic, I would be driving a stick but there is so much technology packed
into this transmission that it is a joy to drive. And it may not be as much fun as a stick to some, but I have never had more fun driving a vehicle, manual or auto.

It's not about the automatic being quicker, it's about the involvement of having a clutch pedal--of having as much control over the driveline as possible. Obviously that's very important to some, not so much to others.

My hot-rodded Caprice wagon has a 4-speed automatic but I am strongly flirting with the idea of converting it to a T56 6-speed manual. The car is surprisingly quick with the automatic (4.10 gears, 3000rpm stall converter, shift kit) but it's just not nearly as much fun as rowing the shifter myself.

Ever thought of adopting?
