My 1125R is coming up to the 12,400 service. Just for the standard service, assuming nothing is wrong, how much can I expect to dish out to my trusty Harley dealer who probably has very few clues of what he's doing?

Mine was under $125, but I did it myself. New plugs, oil, filter and 7 shims.

Nope, not by a long shot, but I'd rather do it myself anyway.

Gotta say some of those prices seem at least pretty reasonable considering the bother of getting to the valves. What's the flat rate time figure on the valve adjustment?

Seems like "book time" was 8 or 8-1/2 hrs.
Takes me a week or two.

I just did my 37,200 mile service. Took seven hours to adjust the valves. I wouldn't take my bike to the harley dealer unless you know you can trust them. This is the first time that anyone other than the dealer did the valves on my bike, and I found a rounded engine mount bolt and looks like they over torqued/stripped most of the valve cover bolts in the rear head. Probably going to have to pull the head next time to do heli coils.

I paid nearly $800 to have mine checked on 2008-09-30 @ 13,204 miles.
There were no shim adjustments needed.

I felt like I completely wasted my money, so I swore I wouldn't do that again until necessary, so I didn't until 2012-09-05 @ 62,889 miles.
Two out of spec shims were replaced.

I've checked valve clearances on 3 different motors now,all about the same, the tightest was the lowest mileage.4000miles 5thou in 7thou ex.
16,000 and 18,000 6 and 8.

Which way were yours out of spec Chameleon?
Thats some serious mileage!

Sorry, I don't know which way they were out of spec. I didn't do the work myself and the mechanic who did it didn't indicate.

I just tried to have mine done at Pig Trail HD in Bentonville AR.What a joke.I made an appointment A week and a half ahead of time and explained what I needed.Service writer said he would order the parts, need the bike for two days and it would be between $800.00 and $900.00.I rented a Road Glide Ultra for half price for two days while mine was in the shop.I get a call at lunch the second day saying they are missing some o-rings and gaskets and it will take 3 to 5 days to get them. Then I get another call,"My technicians say they won't know what shims they need until they get my bike apart and then it will take 3 to 5 days to get them."I sad,"Duh!I think it uses V-Rod shims and bike shops usually have a box full of them."It went down hill from there so I finally told them to just change the oil so I could come get my bike and I would just do it myself.Worst service I have ever had.I did have fun putting about 700 miles on the Ultra though : )

This is why I chose to do the major service myself. I don't trust ANY dealer especially a H-D dealer.

The last time I used one in my area, Orange County H-D/Buell, they screwed up the TPS on my Firebolt! How the hell do you screw something like that up? Prior to that they wanted to charge me $1500 to replace the fuel pump. I fixed it myself for $100 and about 3 hours of my time (that included the replacement wiring, which was all the pump needed).

At least my local dealer was honest when I asked him what it would cost. He told me several times during the conversation they had never done that service on a Buell and never did give me a price - he just kept talking until I said I changed my mind about having the work done. So he really is ethical IMO.
I figure the service writer saved me a lot of grief by sending me elsewhere!
