I'm finally taking the OEM rear off my 1125R and am looking for some opinions on a replacement. My riding is mostly freeway and backroads, but I "ride fast and take chances" (no bragging, just a bad habit that I get too much pleasure from). So although I'd like to get high mileage, I want traction and handling at least as good as the stock tire. The shop I trust has a lot of tire choices, but the three that seemed appealing were: 1) Michelin Pilot Pure, for $160; 2) Bridgestone BT-016, for $165; or Pirelli Angel, for $180. Any opinions? BTW, don't bother telling me how much cheaper they are via mail order. This shop (Scuderia West) has helped me out more times than I can count, so I'd rather give them a few bucks and have them stay in business. | ||

I have not used them, but have heard from local guys that have. That angel is suppose to be a damn good tire for street use. My last set have been the pures, i don't care much for the tread design. We have a lot of pavement in these parts grooved nowadays, the pure tread seems to want to "hunt" on the grooved highway. | ||

I have the Pirelli Angels front and rear, best darn tire ever. Awesome grip for aggressive riding, I would buy them as my main road tire. I have the Pilot Pure on my 1125R track bike, again awesome grip but I do not anticipate a ton of miles going on them! | ||

Been on angels since the oe rear was toast. Working on third rear second front. I've tracked them(slowly). Done mountains plenty of straight line florida riding. Plenty of wet and dry. I've got to say these are likely the all around best bang for buck street tire there is. I'm no light weight and tend to say in the high 20's mpg range(aggresive riding) even two up they have all the confidence I need and then some. Shoot on the track I was dragging my toes(no I didn't go down) I usually see 6-9k from a rear depending on road surface temps and how much two up we do. | ||

I put Dunlop Q2's on after the Pirelli's were toast. They were a huge improvement! I have Angels on my CityX and love them too, but not sure I would put them on a street bike if I planned to ride "aggressive" as you say. I trust their grip on the XB though. | ||

The Angels are fantastic jack of all trades tires. Great in the wet, dry, hot, cold, highway, mountains, curves, straights, etc. There are tires that will do some things better, so I wouldn't use them if you have one specific goal in mind like track days, but it is a fantastic tire that you can use to ride on the slab to a Buell event, tear it up in the twisties all weekend, slab it back home, and still have plenty of life to go. I have similar opinions about the Pirelli Scorpion Trail, but the only reason I would recommend that one is if you plan on going off road on occasion. | ||

I just mounted a Pirelli Rosso 2 and like it. Good all around tire with nice grip. | ||

I've got the Angels now, probably won't get another set. Don't think I'll get much more than 6k out of the rear and I'm not happy with the grip. | ||

Put on the Diablo Rosso II's a few weeks ago myself. Couldn't be happier with them. Only had them spin up on me once in first gear on lousy pavement. SOOOO much happier than I was with the Michelin Pilot Power 2CT, which I felt were really squirmy. They're hard to mount if you're doing it yourself. Required a healthy dose of muscle to fit over the rim on a larger tire changer. | ||

I would recommend the 2CTs or Q2s. Both have better wear life than I had on the Diablo III or Rosso Corsa. Both great for Track days or Agressive street riding. I have about 2K miles right now on my 2CTs and that includes riding and 1 track day so far. Still plenty of meat all the way around | ||

Love the Angel tires, they really are pretty awsome at everything. I have recently done 2 track days and I learned to trust them. Not saying they are the stickiest but would do fine for "aggressive" riding. Just last week I took the Bertha "off-roading" and the tires did fine for that. Granted I still have the OEM front tire, but the back is the angel. Great tire for what you are getting and the price. | ||

I swear by Metzeler Z6s. I've had 3 sets and they're great. I imagine the newer Z8s are even better. I tried the 2CTs and didn't like them; had quite a pucker moment 2-up with my wife on back when the rear started to step out while riding straight at 38 mph on an off camber road which was a bit wet. Can't trust them in the wet. Metzelers on the other hand feel the same & grip just as well in the pouring rain and even when it's snowing as they do when it's dry. | ||

Yep! Q2 On the rear and Battle Axe on the front. Seems like a pretty good set up for me. I don't have any complaints weather I ride aggressive or cruise around town. | ||

Replacing my tires soon also. Metzeler M5s? I have 170/60R17 rear now. Is that oe size or should it be 180/55R17? | ||

I used to swear by the 2CTs but gave the PR3s a try and I would never go back. PR3s last longer and handle better in the wet/cold. I got around 11k out of them on my 1125r and the are very predictable in the corners. I wouldn't be afraid to take these to the track either. Im pretty aggressive in the corners but do enough road trips that I need a dual compound tire. | ||
