I need to get a new rear tire for my 1125cr. I want something that will last a long time, hopefully 10-15k miles. but I also want something that grips well in the twisties. The bike will mainly be a commuter, so the emphasis is on mileage. The tires i am looking at are: Michelin Pilot Road 2 Michelin Pilot Sport HPX Metzeler Roadtec Z6 Sport Touring Metzeler Sportec M5 Interact I am open to suggestions. also, is it a big deal to change out just the rear tire. I saw a forum member on here that said it will adversely effect the handling characteristics of the bike, obviously I do not want this to happen, but my front tire is fine. For 10-15 thousand miles you might want to check some Iron Butt forums for tire talk. Anything sporty will be done by half that or sooner. Like way sooner. | ||

for 15K miles, i think you need to find a set of michelin macadams..those things will last for thousands and thousands of grip free miles. that or find some tires made of granite. | ||

You will be best suited to change out both the front and the rear if you are planning on going to a sport touring tire...which is what you listed. What will happen is that the front tire on your bike, presumably a CorsaIII, will start to grip much better than your rear and you will have to either adjust your riding to it, or pay the consequences. The CorsaIII is a Street/Race tire and has zone technology. Basically, there are different compounds in different areas of the tire. The shoulders of the tire offer more grip than the center. Another thing you will come across is warm up time. The CorsaIII has a very fast warm up time. On the track, you can take two brisk laps, maybe 1 and a half, and you're ready to start leaning hard. With a sport touring tire that is not the case. They take longer to warm up and that will also affect your handling. If you were going from the CorsaIII to say, Pilot Power 2CT I'd say to keep the CorsaIII up front because the handling differences in the two different tires are minimal and most people wouldn't notice the difference. But when going from Street/Track tires to sport touring it will be noticeable. Hope that helps. And for what it's worth, I've always liked the Pilot Power on my M2. The Road 2 is a dual compound in both front and rear with the front tire having softer compound overall than the rear. In my opinion, it would be a great tire for what you want and you should see good life out of it (but not 10 to 15k). Just don't expect the same performance out of that tire as you have now. They aren't even in the same ballpark. The CorsaIII is a badass tire (that's now discontinued...look for Diablo Rosso Corsa for the new one). (Message edited by drawkward on April 06, 2010) | ||

Of the ones you listed, I would have to say the Michelin Pilot Road 2 is the way to go, but I agree, you will not get near 10-15K out of it. | ||

First, 15k out of a tire is the realm of a cruiser tire, not anything that belongs on a sportbike. Second, the trade off *is* traction for mileage. 3k is more like what you would expect from a tire that's mostly used for commuting and highway, and some twisties. Some do get more, but to do so is really just nursing the bike, not changing speeds much, etc. 1k is what you should expect from a sport tire ridden by a skilled rider in a sporting fashion in the high twisties like the mountains. | ||

Just a recommendation, but i got a set of the new Pirelli Angel ST EMS for 225 delivered. They are supposed to last 8-10k and just and good if not better than the Corsa III. I have about 250 miles on mine now and they still have the 'devil eyes' that are supposed to have worn off at 60 miles. just my 2 cents. I would have got the PR 2cts if I did not find these. I'm on my 3rd set of Pilot Road 2 and see about 10,000 miles out of the rear unless, I get a nail like I did the last 2. The first set I got 10k out of the rear. You won't find anything that will do justice to the 1125 that will get 15k. Try the PR2 and you won't be disappointed. Neil S. | ||

Im trying a set of conti road attacks right now...i'm really just looking for a tire that will last more than 2000 miles...i can't imagine 10k but more power to you all. | ||

I tried the ROad attacks before the PR2 and they were pretty good but only lasted about 7k. IMHO they were not as good as the PR2 in the handling department either. | ||

Let me clear something up. The Pirelli Angel is a Sport/Touring tire. It in no way shape or form is "better" or just as good as the CorsaIII. They are two totally different tires. If you think they are the same, you're riding at probably 30% of what the tire can handle...in which case they're similar tires. | ||

I just put Dunlop Roadsmart Sportmax's on my R11s...so far so good. The OEM Metzlers lasted 8k... | ||

I've gotten 7K commuting miles out of my Bridgestone BT-014. It is supposed to be a "performance street" tire. I don't have to scare myself to have fun in the twisty stuff, so I NEVER push its performance envelope. I imagine, with a gentle riding style, 10-15K out of a sport touring tire wouldn't be that hard to do. | ||

Sorry guys but the best tire for us twins is a the Bridgestone Battle axe 021's Awsome tire, last's a while and I run them on my Turbo S1W, my SuperHawk and my 1125r. All with NO chicken strip! | ||

I am leaning towards one of these two : Michelin Pilot Road 2 vs. Continental Conti Road Attack I get it that these will only get about 10k miles, but which one will have better grip, i don't ride in the rain much, so wet traction isn't very important, but I want a lot of dry traction. | ||

I have a couple of friends that have tried them. The faster/more skilled riders did NOT care for them at all. The found them "sandy", unpredictable, and having poor traction. Sure, but someone getting even 3k, much less 7-10k out of Corsa III tires aren't using that kind of lean angle to begin with. It's damn hard to get that kind of lean angle on the street period. | ||

I love the 7000 miles I got out of my first set of Corsa III's. Grip is phenomenal, so I am sticking with them for now, possibly switching to an Angel ST in the future. | ||

There's some roads in Arkansas it's hard NOT to completely scrub in the tires if you are good rider. And, that's without breaking the speed limit -- there's lots of 55 MPH roads with miles and miles of 20-30MPH corners. Just stay at 55 MPH, and you will definitely use some lean angle. | ||

After doing some more research I think the best tire for me is the Metzeler Roadtec Z6 Interact. Ican get it for $170 shipped, and it should last a long time, like 10-15k miles, what do you guys think about this tire? |
