(this is a cross-post from the Uly forum, so I can hit all audiences)

Well, I just got a pair of DDM 6000K 35w bulbs and put one low beam in my Uly, and one in my CR. Riding the Uly, they're just a little too blue for my tastes. Decent brightness, but I'm wondering if the lack of perceived brightness is because they're blue (the human eye sees the blue spectrum the least, out of all colors), or if its because they're 35w.

Now, I've heard people having reflector issues with the 55w setups...yes? I wouldn't be as concerned about it on the Uly (excuse to get an '09/10 headlight with the better beam spread), but I don't want to cook the CR. Flipside - the CR may not be as much of a problem since it's a larger housing/reflector to begin with.

DDM confirmed that all of their bulbs are 60w bulbs, and the ballast is the limiting wattage factor, so I can get a pair of replacement bulbs in 4500K for $15...or I can get a second set including 55w ballasts ("just in case") for $40.

Thoughts? With my move, I'll have a lot more deer-infested commuting than before which is why I'm going for more light. I'm not so concerned on the Uly about getting "more" since I have a great aux light setup, but I don't want to lose any candlepower.

I've also read that 4500 (4300, actually, but they don't offer 4300) is the "typical" automotive OEM color temperature for HID. Yes? I want the truest, whitest light I can get. I don't like yellow, and as noted above I don't want blue.

5000k color is starting to blend into blue. That's what I've got on my R. In hindsight, I wish I would have gotten 4500k as it's a little more white, at least to me. 35 watts with the 2 lights on mine throws out more than enough light. Turning on the standard high beams does almost nothing for additional illumination and they're 55 watts.

Just for reference, ddm light on the left, stock high beam on right.

This one is 35 watts on the left and 55 watts on the right. Both are lit up. The difference is almost literally blinding.

I have the DDM 35w 4500. Way brighter, very white light riders perspective. Slight blue for on coming traffic

4500 is supposed to be the highest (most efficient) output for HID's

I've got 5k, closest I could get from the vendor I used

i've got the 5k 35w from ddm and it is very white with just a slight blue hint like D said. 100X brighter than stock.

Also have 5K 35 W, from DDM.

Very happy. Almost imperceptible hint of blue (I was also looking for pure white). Plenty of contrast with the yellowish tint of 90% of traffic on the road, and bright enough to be seen with low-beams only.

I split traffic while commuting (please don't hijack the thread to discuss that, I don't like it either), and I notice a HUGE increase in people making room for me from when I was running OEM. Far more even than when I was running high beams (during the day). Also (another plus for me), no one seems annoyed by the light output (flashing high beams at me etc.), even at night. Perfect combination of light and color.

just to bring up an old thread, i've been looking around for HID's for my 1125. i don't want cheap, crappy Chinese lights. Where did you guys get yours from?

i also noticed several websites don't have a 4500.

DDM tuning HID lights are great. I just got a set of 4500k 35w for my gf's car and its just pure white. I got a set of 5000Ks when they used to offer it cause they had a different supplier, but now they all used China made lights.
Torquehd - its from ddmtuning.com. Even though the lights are cheap China lights. They work well and last quite a while...The ones I've bought for my car are still running strong after two years. If you do happen to get a faulty set, they have good customer service in replacing bulbs/ ballasts as they offer warranty. I'm even planning to order a set again soon for my bike.

Torquehd, everything is made in China these days, including the DDM-Tuning HID kits, but they aren't garbage.

I put a set of 35W HIDs(6000 *K) on Loretta's lo-beams when I got home from Homecoming 2008.
I'm not sure they are as bright as new, but they are still very bright.

They really light up the road and the contrast with the piss-yellow OEM hi-beams gets oncoming left-turners attention.

I have not had one car turn left too close or cut me off since I installed them.

You can see critter's eyes light up near an eighth mile away.

I have a set of 55w HID's in the 8k in the low beams. Very slight blue color. The higher wattage washes out a lot of the color, love the extra light!

I'm with Zac - reflectivity, the 6000k is through the roof. But luminosity...they're dimmer than the halogens I took out.

Still need to get around to ordering some 4500s...
