So a friend of mine was killed by an ied severals days ago in Iraq...his funeral is this Sunday and there is word of a church called westboro Baptist church; they plan on protesting! This group has a webpage that is labled Godhatesfages.com they are bad people! Meanwhile there is another group called the freedom riders. They plan on riding with the funeral processions to keep protesters from being hear. I asked them if I could join and they gladly accepted. I just wanted to raise awareness of the good people that are still outhere today and thank you! I will let u guys know how it goes and post pics.... also thank you to the men and women that keep our country safe!

The WBC is on the borderline of being a domestic terrorist group.

They are certainly a hate group.

Michele Bachmann, Westboro Baptist, conservatives in general are acting like Jews. Christian's don't blame anything on God's wrath. The Old Testament does a lot of 'Gods Wrath' but these are stories about the Jewish civilization. Those Westboro Baptist folks should know there is 'none of that' wrath stuff in the stories of Jesus. Love and acceptance are the stories found in the New Testament.

These people are NOT acting like Christian's but radicalized Old Testament believers which makes them the anti-christs of our day.

Stupid is as stupid does.

+100% for Freedom Riders.

they've threatened to come here twice that i know of and both times we got so riled up over it they didn't bother to show. first time i was there it was an amazing thing. 1 local man died in Iraq serving the world. in response to WBC and in support of his family there were well over 5,000 motors strong and who knows how many cagers present. riders from all sorts of clubs that would normally be at odds with each other came in and stood together without so much as a cross look. here in jacksonville that's saying a lot as this city is still very polarized over racial and other issues.

Best people i have ever met in my life are riders.

if the wbc clowns show up do not provoke them or in anyway violate their civil rights. that is how they are funded primarily via lawsuits from people letting their emotions get the best of them.

"that is how they are funded primarily via lawsuits"

Truth.

The vast majority of them (not the kids) are lawyers. As if we need another reason to despise lawyers.

A baby rabbit and a baby snake were born near each other. Coincidentally, both were also blind. When they happened to meet they were dismayed that since they were blind they did not even know what they were. So they decided to help each other figure it out. The snake wrapped around and over the rabbit and said "you're soft and fluffy with big ears and a little cottonball tail". The rabbit said "oh that's easy, I'm a little bunny. Everyone loves bunnies! Let's do you now!" So the rabbit rolled over the snake a few times and said "hmm, you're long and hard, sorta like a prick with no balls." The snake cried out "oh no, I'm a lawyer!"

Sorry about your loss. Good luck with keeping those people away.

Aside from the fact that your statement is Anti-Semitic, I find it offensive that you would equate anything that MB or any mainstream Conservative has said with anything that those nuts at Westboro Baptist have said. I challenge you to supply quotes.

WBC - there are so few people in this world that I feel absolutely nothing positive for - these folks, who I've never met personally, are a part of the select few.

They are truly evil and ignorant.
I hope nothing but bad things for them

I am sorry to hear of your friend Smitty, hopefully WBC does not show up and ruin the celebration of your friends life with thier rude behaviors

Its just sad that some lame ass group would protest at someones funeral that fought and died for this country. Maybe the government should make everyone serve 2 years like a lot of other countries do.

Might just have a little different perspective on what freedom really cost. Sorry about your loss of a friend.

There is a time and a place for protests and funerals are not it.

Indy_bueller - Attributing events like the death of a soldier, an earthquake or hurricane as 'gods wrath' for ??? is Old Testament plain and simple. Have you read the Bible front to back?

My paternal grandfather was Jewish. I worked closely with a Palestinian refugee for twenty years. Munib was 40 years my senior, in many respects this noble man was the grandfather I never had.

WBC attributes soldiers dying to homosexuality in America?? I don't need to cite any sources here do I?

MB attributes earthquakes and storms...

Danny,

Are you Christian?

>>> Michele Bachmann, Westboro Baptist, conservatives in general are acting like Jews.

WTF??? : ?

Are you a self-loathing Jew? Your bizarre commentary is beyond my ability to find rational logic. Trying to equate that jovial commentary by Bachman to the haters of Westboro, and then somehow asserting that it is Jewish behavior is beyond the pale.

Your understanding of Christianity is overly simplistic, dare I say ignorant. For instance, what did Jesus say about God's faithful and their relationships with family? How did he send his disciples off to spread the word? What was his reaction to corruption at the temple?

There is no tolerance for evil in Christianity. The challenge is to combat it without being consumed by it. Resisting temptation as Jesus did in the desert. Few can do it.

Blake - One culture explains adversity as Gods wrath, anger, or disgust. Another culture explains adversity as a cheerful challenge to rise above.

The wrath of God stories are in the Old Testament, the history of the Jewish civilization before Jesus.

Tolerance is the New Testament. How many times, how many examples of injustice were met with love and forgiveness? That is the New Testament.

>>> Tolerance is the New Testament.

As a vague blanket statement, that is nonsense. I have no idea what you mean, and you didn't answer any of my questions.

The wrath of god stories simply portray what happens to people when we refuse to follow god's law. It's not god doing it to us, it us doing it to ourselves. We don't blame the cardiac surgeon for cutting us open and causing us pain. We blame poor exercise and diet. We don't blame the lawgiver when we exceed the speed limit and end up driving off a cliff because of it. Likewise, don't blame god for the inevitable consequences of violating his law, law that was provided to guide us towards the absolute most satisfying and joyful life possible. It's not god's fault that we refuse to follow it.

I don't think you understand biblical history or Christianity, certainly not the way I do.

Please reconcile that with Job and his experience.

Are you unfamiliar with any wrath of god stories in the New Testament?

Everone loves John 3:16. But if you continue reading verses 17,18, 19, you'll see language that says that those who don't believe are already condemned. Not exactly the language of tolerance. Jesus was tolerant and loving of those who were repentant, seeking mercy and who had faith. Those who were proud or didn't have faith, he condemned.

Our modern culture seems to want Christianity to be the spiritual equivalent of pixie dust. But its really just about the daily struggle to be faithful, to know that you are a schmuck and even though we don't deserve it, God has already acted for us to secure our salvation -- its why they call that Friday long ago "Good". All we are required to do is believe.

One of the saints (it escapes me now which one) said that the church established confession and absolution as practice for judgement day. Those who are expecting cheap grace may be in for a bit of a surprise.

Evil exists in this world because humanity exists in a fallen state. But trying to tie specific causes and effects together is like saying you know God's mind and this is folly for us (and this is WBC's mistake). The bible tells us that we are purposefully blinded to this understanding. 1 Cor 13:12

Oh, and Smitty - sorry for your loss. I lost one of my best friends from high school in the first go around with Iraq back in 1991. Semper Fi.

I'm always thankful for those who are serving in our armed forces - and the job that they do. They keep the barbarians from the gates.
