I wave to everyone also and like others have said some Harley guys don't wave but most do. I give the wave to everyone even the guys on the scooters why not everyone is out for the same reason, to ride!!!!! I give every biker respect if he doesn't give it back that is fine with me. I try to not judge the book by the cover kinda thing.

Yep I should add that I'm in the UK : )

I wave at scooters too, even chat to them at service stations. They are into their rides and are generally a nice enough bunch : )

Mind I'll chat to absolutely anyone!

I Had a full custom prior to my 1125r , lets just say that it would smoke most of the street bikes out there stop light to stop light. I was able to launch at nearly full throttle and lay rubber for about 15ft until hook up. It really isnt fair to compare these bikes as each is purpose built. Fun anyways to race anything any chance we get right?

Don't mind running with ANY bike. I don't even mind "racing" up to reasonable speeds.

But don't cut me off! Go by me but don't buzz me!

I stopped waving to Harley riders in my parts....most of them don't wave back anyway. They're too "tough" to wave.

I wave to HD and Scoots. If they waver back coo... if not coo... I even wave to Can-Am Spyders. I like to think they are at least trying or maybe they have an inner ear problem. ; )

When people riding with people if the point guys waves and the oncommer doesn't I raise a fist to my lid (signal for cops ahead) and laugh as they slow down worried about the cop who isn't there. :P

As far as racing.... had a Mustang GT try to pull on me on the highway once... he was 2 fisting the wheel while I was up right and one handing it. Didn't pass him by to much... just enough to let him know I wasn't trying.

Had a friend on his R1 get spooked by a Vanquish thay stayed pretty close on a roll on from about 80kph to 200kph. The driver backed off at that point. Some cars do have decent roll-on power for sure.

My car is at 300whp. I hope people pull up on me but the only time one has the Wiff was with me so no dice. : (

The Aston Martin Vanquish is one of those cars that WILL give a sportbike a serious run.

A Mustang GT (V8 powered S197-round headlights on newer) will do well up to a 600cc sportbike, although not the newer 600's. A late model Corvette will kill a 600cc bike. A Z06/ZR1 Corvette will handily beat many sportbikes except the fastest liter class ones.

bikes will always accelerate faster than cars , cars will always brake faster than bikes.
I did have a wee race in a straight line with a Ferrari 355 once which I did win, but there is a limit on roads i won't go past as it is just silly.

Sorry. Scooters are a blast.

You can beat the $hit out of 'em, pinned all out, 101% of what they'll do, and not lose your license.

I wave to anything on 2 wheels.

Actually, the real reason I have to occasionally ride a scooter is to compensate for my giant ****.

Most guys that I know with muscle cars, corvettes, etc., are usually gear heads and know about horsepower to weight ratios. In other words, they know why they shouldn't be racing motorcycles with their cars. I recently ran across a couple of brand new Ferrari 599s. Beautiful machines. I believe they have a V-12. Those guys weren't burning rubber. They were more into, "Hey, I'll slow down so you can get a better look." They both gave me a thumbs up....but then I was on a Buell.

Interesting note: A big fat man on the 400 LB motorcycle would make a huge difference to the detriment of performance. In the 3300 LB Vette, not so much.

We aren't talking 1/4 mile times Blake! If you get a Vette and a GSXR on the highway the vette will toast it. 60-200 is where a ZR1 shines!!! The 1/4 results are from terrible traction which isnt a issue on a rolling start

I was. Seems others were as well as the thread started talking about drag racing from a stop light. Quarter mile times would seem perfectly relevant then, no?

I do agree that once aerodynamics become a major factor, the Vette enjoys a huge advantage. In a drag race, the motorcycle suffers another huge disadvatage, its tendency to wheelie. That tends to offset the traction issue for the vette. Note too that the Vette has a fairly good launch control to prevent it from spinning its rear wheels, and the grip at a dragstrip is WAY beyond what is available on any public road.

Even in a rolling start race to moderate speeds (before aerodynamics kill the bike), the bike would outperform the Vette. The power to weight ratio with a 160 LB rider on a 600cc GSXR-600 (123 HP/570 LB = 0.22 HP/LB) beats that of the ZR1 Vette (638 HP / 3489 LB = 0.18 HP/LB) by a significant margin (> 20%).

Theres plenty of replies to this thread that are talking about wide open on the highway not the drag strip maybe you weren't reading carefully.

If your going to add all this info about power/weight ratio then you also need to consider power delivery. Do you realize how instantaneous the power is on a supercharged 7 liter V8 its not a japanese 4 cyl, its a torque monster that has power from idle to redline on the other hand the gsxr has to wind up. aerodynamics are a huge factor and cant be overlooked because they affect the bike heavily! on top of that I don't know if you have ridden a 600cc lately but I can hammer the throttle in first and have no issue with the bike trying to flip back. You mentioned launch control on a vette. It helps but it doesn't defy physics Unless your running slicks on the zr1 your going to roast those tires trying to use its full potential.

The vette will do 60-130 in about 7.5 seconds your gsxr is going to be more like 8.2 thats a pretty big lead in a race that potentially only lasted 8 seconds. and after 130 mph the vette will disappear.

On top of all this your facts are incorrect a ZR1 weighs between 3333-3350 did you factor a driver? and I think your figuring a pretty light rider on the gsxr 160 how old are they 16? I would say a average rider geared up is closer to 200 lbs not 160 lbs.

Your power to weight facts are inaccurate. They could be useful if they were figured correctly but in this situation that vette can have less power for lbs and still whoop the bike.

This conversation surfaces 3 times annually and always evolves to a "show me your mile" state.

Anyway you slice it both the current crop of bikes (I'm partial to Erik Buell Racing) and cars (I'm partial to Porsche) are amazing machines. By the way . . . and to the shared disdain of those of use who grew up with SS396, GTO, 4-4-2 and HemiCudas. . . the current crop of Mustangs will also lay waste to most things. This is very unpopular with Porsche owners who say very insulting things about folks with "cheap" cars. For the record, the Mustang Cobra and the Porsche Cayman (as well as the F150 HD model) are all within pocket change of each other.

We ALL win.

The aging, experienced part of me is required to add that if you use ANY of these anywhere near their capabilities on public roads you are an idiot. I have the photos of both the wadded bikes and Porsches bearing witness.

I don't care much about which is faster in which scenario. I just don't appreciate wild exaggerations, and I don't like misleading statements. Call it a pet peeve of mine.

I didnt say I was launching the bike Blake I said I can give it full throttle in first and it doesnt do a a massive wheelie. I've done this on several 600cc bikes and the results are pretty much the same no massive wheelie...

Maybe the 600cc jap bike sucks

Theres at least 4 replies of being on the highway so once again read the thread and you will find out that your wrong.

Show me the "wild exaggerations"? looks likes Like I posted facts that proved your post wrong and now your upset and coming after me.

But like you said lets get back to topic : )

Fact...Most 600 bikes are not that fast from a freeway roll.

Fact..From a stop a well ridden bike is hard to beat with most cars.

My own personal experience was racing many different bikes in my 4600lb full size 1984 chevy C10. My truck was a proven low 12 second vehicle in the quarter mile on nitrous. Yes I have a time slip to prove it. My first bike race was an older Suzuki GSX-R 600 (not sure on year). We have a long straight on ramp locally that is often used for drag racing and while on my way home one night this bike flew past me on the ramp. I had a good friend in the truck and he thought I was nuts to try and race this bike. I caught up to him on the Hwy and gave him the go ahead wave. I promptly walked right past him. This happened 2 more times! The whole time my friend and I were laughing hysterically. Fast forward to a later time while out cruising I pulled up to a Suzuki GSXR-750 (they grow on trees around here) and a CBR1000. Guys looked over and laughed at my large hood scoop (truck was named the farm truck for a reason) and stopped laughing as I purged the nitrous! I did not win this stop light race but was only a car behind the 750 and a bus behind the 1000 before the next lights. We exchanged thumbs up's and went about our ways.

My previous bike a Kawasaki ZR-7 lost many times on the Hwy to a friends lightly modified Turbo Eclipse. From a stop we were dead even unless one of us missed a shift.

The stigma that bikes are the baddest things around is ridiculous. Have I lost to a car on my 1125R yet...no, but know that I will someday.

In conclusion, this internet argument could go back and forth forever as there is always someone faster...How deep are your pockets? Keep the shiny side up everyone and just enjoy the ride.

Roll-on races are very interesting indeed. You can also take the differences between the 1320 and 1/8th mile at the drag strip for bikes and cars and see which one gains more during that second 1/8th of a mile. The trap speed differences are also interesting to note.

Most cagers have no idea of the huge aerodynamic penalty a modern sportbike suffers at high speed.
