Here's some threads I've saved for some maintenance/repair stuff, and since the search on here can be difficult I'm posting them since I'm such a nice guy.

it's awesome that people have done this stuff, but what about the manuals?

save the front plug no-rotate, and maybe a few tips/tricks along the way, *personally* i'd feel that manuals would be a better guide to supply people with if they are going to undertake major maintenace.

don't get me wrong, these threads are great, and i think we all can appreciate the effort of those that made them. i'll be skimming thru them this fall, as i replace or rebuild my motor (i haven't done ALL my homework yet and come to a decision, tho i am heavily leaning toward just swapping it out)

BUT let's not get all wrench-happy after just 'reading about it on the inter-webz'

The manuals are needed too but these just gives some more real world/DIY help and hints. These bikes are well thought out and somewhat easy to work on, but it's not like the old days where you looked at whatever you're fixing and can see this-lever-pushes-that-gizmo and fix with a hammer and pliers. (I'm talking pre-1975 stuff)

Belt replacement and durability test - started in 2009, still running "test" belt on Loretta.

These bits of information are wonderful supplements to the shop manual, often clarifying the manual's thorough, if bewildering prose.

Also, it's nice to know that you don't really have to buy that HD-1234556a tool and that you can use a generic substitute.
