I have decided to experiment with putting a fan under the seat after a particularly warm trip into a local town on my CR.

I have an XB cooling fan that I am going to try to fit to the undertray ( if it's not too big ) - I intend to cut a hole to get some air through.

So - do I suck hot air out from under the seat or blow cold air in ? Just wondering if one method will be more efficient than the other ? Hopefully it will just be a matter of reversing the wiring on the fan to reverse the airflow.

Im not an expert, but my logic tells me you'd want it blowing away from the seat towards the back since that will be the way the air will naturally flowing when moving on your motorcycle.
I think if you were trying to bring in air from the back of the bike and move it forward it would be harder because it is fighting the air that is moving front to rear.
Just my thoughts, good luck

see here scroll down...the builder describes the fans as blowing away from the seat ( sucking the air through it - note the sheet metal sides that force the air flow thru the radiator:

good luck

That is a BEAUT-i-ful motorcycle.
I bet the fans are a big drain on the charging system tho.. ; )

Blowing out the back should help a lot with a hot-seat.

Make sure you can turn it off in the winter, don't want to freeze the twins.

Don't reverse the polarity on the wires if its a DC fan. If you want to reverse the direction of the fan flip it around.

I read a bunch of the comments and a lot of people had a problem with combining old looks with new tech. Isn't that the definition of Steam punk?

46champ: I was just introduced to steam punk a few weeks back, from what I saw of it you are 100% correct.

some fans will spin the opposite direction by simply reversing the wires. other dc motors will not due to moe complex internals that just a motor. the other bigger less though of issue is the fan blades are not designed to properly move air if spun backwards. if you wish to change air flow, turn the whole motor(blades, motor and housing) around.
