Hey gang, I've owned my '09 1125CR for about 2 weeks, and yes - I've read the owners manual front to back, but I have a few questions (hopefully with simple answers):

- When y'all first got your 1125 (R or CR), did you adjust the brake/clutch hand levers and shifter/brake foot pegs?

- Does the CR have "running lights" (small, non-LED bulbs like the R model?

- Is there an advantage to keeping the stock pillon seat cowl on? Is it just for looks?

- I've read the manual on adjusting suspension settings for my weight... but is it a one-man job, or will I need help? I know the CR doesn't have a center stand.

- Is it free to call a dealer and see if my ECM has been "flashed" or whatnot? Or check to see if any TSB/recalls have been performed?

- Do any of you use the PIN theft protection feature on your Instrument Cluster, or is it a waste of time?

- Is Premium gas suggested? I didn't see it in the owner's manual, just stuff about % of ethanol and leaded gasoline, etc.

Yep, adjusted them all the way out.
Don't know on the running lights.
I leave mine on almost all the time, it just looks cleaner to me.
2 people make it easier, 3 would be better though. Take it to a track day, have the suspension guys there set it up, makes a world of difference, especially if you don't know how.
ECM flashes are typically free, pretty sure they can check by vin, but hooking it up to the digital tech would be better. You would be much better served getting a race ecm from Erik Buell Racing, it will run MUCH better.
Used the pin thing for a while, it's a pain.
I think the minimum is 90 or 91 (premium) octane. That's all I've ever run in mine, usually 93 though. It's getting expensive, but still cheaper than driving my 4x4 pickup.

Nope. I was happy as is.

Yes, center of the headlamp is the position light.

It makes the bike about 20% cooler.

One man, five minutes, and all the tools you need are under the seat in a little toolkit. I recommend you set it up one weight group lighter than you are, it feels excessively stiff for the street at book settings.

The only way to check the ECM calibration will be to use a computer and plug into it. The dealer has this tool, it isn't something they can look up. You can make a profile on Harley-Davidson.com and use its service checker to see if your VIN has any outstanding recalls.

I do, but I commute to work and have to leave the bike outdoors. What it does is locks out the ECM and gauge cluster, so that even if someone hot wires it or jams a screwdriver in your ignition they won't be able to start it. It won't stop anyone from picking your bike up and tossing it in a truck though.

Is Premium gas suggested?

I am mostly certain it requires it, but I can't recall anything ever saying it does or not.

froggys post is almost 100% exactly what I was going to say. Except the PIN thing, I've never used it.

I put in the highest gas I can get (thats at the pump, not talking about race gas), its 20c extra per gallon, what is it, a 5 gallon tank? So its an extra dollar to use premium

Thanks for the specific answers, y'all! I actually saw in the Owner's Manual that it says minimum of 91 Octane pump gasoline. The "extra" $1 or $2 at each fill-up isn't a big deal - just wanted to make sure I was putting the right grade gas in.

The center running lamp really confuses me... is it visible when the headlight is on? I see it now (in a pic with the headlamp off):

Yes it is on as long as your key is on or in park. : )

Isn't my headlight on simultaneously (while key is on)?

I love when people tell me I have a headlight out I pull the passing light trigger as I lean over to look and say no I don't look there both on and then let it go i know but it's the little things that make me happy

I used this video for the suspension:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv8DY5Prl5c

It's a Buell engineer, explaining what each adjuster does, and then demoing how to do it with the included tool kit. Having someone at track days help you would be good, but you should at least be able to help your help, and understand what they're saying.

Figured it out. The low-beam doesn't come on in "park", so that's the only way you can actually see the "running lamp" on. I wonder if I can replace it with some LED or a different color or something?

Bwbhighspl - great video! I read the suspension part of the manual twice... but the clockwise/counter-clockwise stuff didn't make sense until the video. Thanks!

I can't remember the bulb size, but I'm sure someone will chime in!

Jeepinbueller... very nice! I found lots of different 194-type bulbs @ autolumination.com

Did you use an LED (or several LEDs on one bulb)?

Careful with Red or Blue lights in the headlight housing. May get a little hassle from po po depending on your location.

4-way flashers

I activated the 4-way flashers on my 08 buell 1125r today. Bike rolled forward & fell while warming up. Engine quit & flashers came on. a little hard on LH mirror. : (

Is there an easier way to turn on 4-way flashers?

Brent

Glad I have not seen 4 way flashers on mine. Even when I crashed they did not come on...nor did the engine stop running (this was when the bike was completely unaltered and new).

If you unscrew the BAS, you can turn it on its side and the 4-ways come on. : )
Doesn't bugger up the body work.

I guess you could put a switch in-line with the BAS to turn them on.
Still would have to cycle the key to turn them off.
