You're down in Spring, TX? You could start by heading out NW of San Antonio - to Bandera/Leakey area. Search online for "337 three sisters". There's some great bits of road out there. Continue on to the grand canyon/Hoover dam/ then California and north to the redwoods.... that would be one heck of a trip. If you've already been that way, the Blue Ridge parkway in NC/Virginia area is beautiful. The dragon and other roads like it are out there too. I haven't been everywhere, but those are a couple of suggestions. | ||

Best trip I EVER took was Ft. Collins-Grand Junction-Phoenix-San Diego-HWY 1/101 up the coast to Canada-Seattle-Then thru Montana and Wyoming to home again. That was on a Softail tho. If you head out this way to ride the Rockies(so far ALL good riding) stop by and say hi. I went to Conroe H.S. in another life. Zack | ||

I am heading san diego to denver and then back the end of June. planning to go through the mountains to palm springs, joshua tree, mojave desert, vegas, Bryce, zion, who knows... maybe ill look at devils highway, then south western CO gunnison area... i cant wait i just started pulling my stator cover today to see what it looks like after 2000 miles  opps- hijack sorry todd | ||

If you are going to ride the Dragon, try to do it on a weekday; weekends it can fill up with morons (my Killboy photos show me on an upright Uly following a pickup truck full of lawn maintenance equipment in one direction and a gaggle of HD cruisers in the next run). | ||

The two winners so far are Arkansas and Colorado. Usually do the Texas hill country in the fall. Much better during the week than the over-crowded weekends. Been through NC/SC/GA/TN a bunch of times already. It's a long ride to anything decent from here. | ||

Compared to Arkansas, Hill Country is so awful I'd never waste another gallon of gas on that place. The roads suck, there's too many cops and cruisers, and there's only about 100 miles of decent road, anyway. There's thousands of miles of incredible road in Arkansas, and the worst of it is better than the best of Hill Country. | ||

And what part is supposed to display your point of morons on the weekends? Motorcyclists enjoying a road? or a guy trying to get from point a to point b? you have a few weeks. F it, San Fran down 1 to southern cali then just go across america. or do southern cali up 1 to san fran and then head east. If I had the time (and money, I have the time unfortunately) I'd just explore America. We've got a great country with some amazing sceneries and places to hang out, go check them out. | ||

let me add - I agree to go on weekday or early AM on weekend, not due to cruisers or local traffic, just...well...traffic. Why be on there with ricky racer and his gang of friends when if you go another time you can have a better time. And to what JD posted, AK is awesome. Sometimes I like to achieve lean angles greater than 10 degrees. Weekends tend to fill the road up with too many others, both riders and cagers, to enjoy a brisk ride through. | ||

Any way I go in the Bay area means a great ride! Epic is Morgan Territory road - damn thing tires me out, but leaves a big ole smile as well - of course I do ride it back and forth, then the two roads to get home from there are pretty good as well. The Bay area just rocks with great roads. EZ | ||

Arkansas is epic. Very little traffic, nice swoopy roads. Route 16 is not to be missed. The only drawback is that most of the pavement, although in good shape, is surfaced with chip seal. It wears the hell out of your tires. I wore a rear Pirelli Diablo down to it's cords in 2400 miles on my SV650. I usually get 6K miles on those tires. For your tire, I'd recommend you mount something on the durable end of the spectrum. I've got to second the vote for AZ 191 (used to be 666). It is glorious. You need to ride it south and then turn around and ride it back up north. The southern end empties into congestion and then miles of flat desert. The north is beautiful mountains for many, many miles. There are many outstanding roads in California. I'm most familiar with the ones that go in and about the Sierra Nevada mountains. Rt 4, Rt 108 and Rt 49. "The stretch of 49 between Bear Valley & Coulterville ... One of the most entertaining 15 or so miles of road this side of the Alps." Colorado is another well known story. | ||

I am partial to Hwy 1 from Monterey to Cayucos. Don't plan on going fast especially on the weekend, but what a freaking scenic ride. If you go south, you are on the outside lane--which can be good and bad. You can see more, but you are damn close to the cliffs. Oh yeah, to get the twisties out of our system before the long haul down the Coast on Hwy 1, we hit Hwy 25 from Hwy 198 to Hollister. Long day of riding from Fresno--about 500 miles IIRC. **EDIT** 500 miles Fresno-Cayucos, not all the way home to Fresno. (Message edited by fresnobuell on April 21, 2011) | ||

Roads in WV are either very twisty or kind of twisty. Never straight! SE Ohio is another really good area for twisties. | ||

It might not be in the USA but a fortnight riding around the highlands of Scotland is excellent, twisty roads, great views and few traffic cops. Plenty of places to stay as well as being reasonably priced. |
