I rode 65 miles Friday. It was sunny and windless with a perfect cruising temperature of 67 degrees.

Why am I telling you this?

Because traffic was awful, and as I reached the stretch of highway where traffic normally subsides, I ran into a single lane "no passing" construction zone with a limit of 45 mph. After 20 miles I turned around, fought BACK through the traffic to my house. There I discovered my central heat/AC unit had given up the ghost. We have zero degree weather and 30 mph north winds forecast here this week, so I ripped my furnace apart and spent 2 days tracking down the issue.

Feel better?

We rode two up out to Joshua Tree yesterday. 350 miles total, between 45F and 75F.

Just about 32F right now, and 2" of snow so far and still falling.

Discovered that we were in IMMEDIATE need of a rear tyre in the middle of JT. Merde. Motored rather cautiously over to Hutchins HD/Hon/Yam/Kaw/Suz/Polaris only to find them closed on a warm Saturday at 2:00. Backtracked one mile to a tiny independent MC Parts store. No 17" rears. But he managed to put us on to Desert Cycle Works in 29 Palms. They not only stayed late for us, they played along with me removing the rear wheel myself to save some $$$. They were more than fair, and friendly, and helpful.

Cannot say enough good things about Desert Cycle Works. But I will try!

OK I'll give it a go..

Went to a bike rally, camped for 2 nights in the 30 degree weather, drank lots of Jack, played some silly games (nails, tightrope walking, tug-of-war) saw lots of buddies...

Then had a fantastic ride home (after sobering up!) , cruising at around 100mph with a few higher speed escapades (traffic was very light), one quick blast up to 150MPH and then some great twisties..

Got home, had a hottub with my wife, then an afternoon "siesta" then supper..

Life is good!!

Man, you still have snow in the background and you're out riding. We're supposed to get 1-2 FEET of snow here tomorrow and Tuesday. I did get to go out for about 80 miles yesterday, but it's come to an end for a while here.

I rode up to Payson AZ from here in Mesa AZ yesterday afternoon to watch a friend of mine fight in a amateur cage fight (he won - first round submission) stayed the night at the casino and rode back home this AM.. The ride up the Beeline highway is quite twisty and fun even at higher speeds... I was running a bit late on the way there and was cruising around 85ish... I caught and passed a newer C6 vette who wanted to play and we had a good pace going pushing well over 120 at some points... Kinda dumb I know but sometimes ya gotta have a little fun. Once the fun stuff was over he pulled up next to me and gave me a big thumbs up and let me keep on at my slightly UN-lawful pace again... The weather on the way there was nice but at 8:30am on the way home i FROZE my ASS off!

That was the coldest I have ever seen on my display. It quickly moved into the high 30's and the into the 70's by the time I was home

Buell66, you forgot to mention the blizzard warnings that are already posted for Tues/Wed. Totals=unknown due to 'lake enhancements'.
Worse, I'm getting called out of town for the week and sent to Florida. Now, you may say good for me, but you haven't then heard my end of the conversation when I call back home during one of these snow events.
Mandatory Buell content follows: Hope the roof of the shed with the XB and 1125 doesn't collapse...

Low to mid 70s here today. My wife on her GS300L and my daughter on the back of my 1125R did 140 miles of country riding in hillsborough, pasco and hernando counties. Nice leisurely pace, but when the road got a little twisty (for FL) my daughter and I sped ahead. Really a wonderful day. My daughter never has any interest in going with us, so this was special. Met some other riders at the Hess near Brooksville and had some good conversations.

If I moved anywhere, it would be Colorado. I grow weary of winter more each year. Now I'm trapped with a business to run. I ain't goin NOWHERE!!!
Keep up the ride stories. I don't mind the cold weather, but my scoot HATES the salt.

so they loaded up the truck and moved to beverly, hills that is......

I have been riding around a lot with the temperatures in the 50's lately. I now have 8500 miles on my CR in one year! I am really starting to enjoy the gearbox, especially raising the rpm for 'no clunk' downshifting with the stock IAC and then throttle off engine braking. this bike rocks!

We rode about 300 miles yesterday. Hit every curve in this part of the state I think. Had a great lunch. It started out at about 50 degrees, got up to 70 or so.

Spring in Florida is coming...at lunch we parked under some old growth oak trees at the cafe'....when we came out, the bikes were dusted with bright yellow pollen : )

Got a great ride in at the track Saturday. High of 72.

Would have been perfect except the cedar pollen is so high now the inside of my face itches.

D adams, after you mentioned it, it does look like snow in the background. But it is only the scenery from US 129 in Blount County TN.

Zacks, have a safe flight, hopefully the roof has enough structural integrity, otherwise you might have to bring them into the house...

I went to the dealer Saturday to pick up my bike from service. It was about 75F and sunshine.

My dealer is 34 miles away. Somehow it took me 150 miles to get home. I must have gotten lost.

On a downer note, it was raining Sunday.

I did a 900 mile ride this past weekend...
I'm in Albuquerque, and visit my GF in Phoenix every other week. Weather permitting, I ride one of my bikes.
This past weekend was going to be 55 in 'Querque, and 70's in Phoenix, I decided to ride my Honda ST1300 for it's comfort, and weather protection.
Riding out Friday night, I saw temps as low as 24 south of Flagstaff. We had a great weekend, rode about 80 miles on Saturday, (she rides an XB9SL) and on Sunday, I headed back to 'Querque.
I decided to take the mountain roads, as they are more fun, and somewhat shorter.
At the junction of 260 and 87 I stopped for a pic:

I was having a great time, the big Honda, while it doesn't handle like my Buells, does a great job of scooting along, and keeping me warm, all at the same time.
I eventually pulled up out of the mountains, and started heading across the high desert:

I ate up some serious mileage, and soon pulled into Winslow, AZ.
Remember the Eagles song? "sitting on a corner in Winslow, AZ, such a fine sight to see, it's a girl my lord in a flatbed ford, slowing down to take a look at me".
Winslow is capitalizing on this, with a wall mural:

Winslow, to the AZ/NM border on I-40 is pretty boring, long, straight, yawn...
At the state line I stopped to stretch, pee, and have a smoke.
While checking out the bike, I spotted this:

Crap!
15 miles from a town, I know there are no bike shops open, and I still have about 145 miles to go...
I remembered reading on the badweb of someone in the same predicament a few years back, that managed to limp their bike from Colorado, to California using Duct tape...
I limped into Gallup, NM and stopped at the Walmart and bought a roll of the good 'ol 100MPH tape, intent on making it home.

I rode the speed limit, (UGH!) and pulled over about every 25 miles to peel of the worn tape, and roll another 3 layers of fresh tape over the tire.
I made it home safe and sound, I'm amazed the tape worked, LOL.

So, know you know, in an emergency you CAN use duct tape to ride an infinite amount of miles.

And That, is my vicarious ride for YOU! ; )

Hey guys thanks,.just trying to be a bit better at photography. Practicing all the time.

That house (Rosa Muerta) and another one, similar, right next to it (Acido Dorado,..this one is completely golden, bigger, really cool), are two properties by an architect in the middle of the desert, Joshua Tree. You can rent them for a weekend. Almost same price as a hotel, but way cooler. Heres the links:

http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/14158
http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/14157

If you happen to go, tell him i sent you so maybe i can get a discount next time.

Rosa Muerta is open,..so it gets pretty cold at night especially now. So if youre heading out there shoot me a pm, so i can tell you more about it so youre prepared.

cheers

That Acido Dorado house next door with the two bedrooms is pretty cool
