It's pretty subjective and depends on what you're after. Dean's pipes are just beautiful pieces of engineering, the RT-4 is just fabulous.

The D&D is just plain fugly, as mentioned before it doesn't improve on the power and the noise is a personal taste thing.

I have a Barker right now, bought because it was cheap, especially with shipping to the UK added in.

If I had the money I'd buy an RT-4 but for now the Barker is my best "bang for buck" choice, especially as Tim did 2 day delivery from the USA to the UK for peanuts!

The "loud pipe" debate is something a lot of people care passionately about.. I am firmly in the "loud pipes save lives" camp but can appreciate that not everyone feels the same.

On my Ducati I had what can only be described as a "megaphone" exhaust made, my trip to work involved riding past a local junior high school and eventually I received a letter fom the headmistress asking me to please do something about the bike as it was "scaring the children".

I replaced the pipe with another "race" pipe (but quieter) and she wrote me a lovely "thank you" letter.

I changed the pipe because I didn't want to put kids off motorbikes

ok so i will totally cross off jardine rt5.Related story; when i purchased my buell from the hd dealer in decatur IL(coziahrs) i asked the dealer what type of exhaust did he reccomend, his response was jardine rt5. But what i have come to realize is they are really not the brightest there when it comes to these wonderful machines. I kinda feel like i have been lied to about several things. I Have done one huge impossible thing to my buell which is lower it 2.5 inches. Had to ship the shock off to CA to get redesinged. All in all sound is important to me along with power. Power not as much as sound tho. Dean, does the rt3 come in the dual outlet, listened to the rt4 last night, sound is nice but i prefer the rt3s sound.

The RT-3 is a single outlet only.

Just curious, why lower it 2.5"? Any bumps at all, doesn't matter what pipe you put on it, it WILL drag. That's an awful lot to lower an 1125 unless you're only going to drag race it.

I lowered it because it suited my desires. It was so tall for me that it was unsafe. I dropped it in my driveway trying to back it out. I did not do anyhomework before purchasing this because if i wanted it i had to jump the gun because people were waitingin line to buy it and the dealer said first person with the money gets it.. winner i am. So i did that first. Exhaust is next on my list of to dos.Fortunately when i dropped it i did not damage at all... so lucky there too. The current exhaust does not drap or scrap at all so would there by any problems with your rt3?

Ground clearance should be the same as stock or maybe a little better, so if you're not dragging now, then the RT-3 won't either. I assume you must be fairly small or light weight. I'm about 210 with gear and if I dropped mine that much, I'd probably bottom out just sitting down on it.

well thanks to everyone, my decision is made up. Come January or Feb dean i will be hitting you up for an RT3. How long does it usually take you to get one built and shipped, do you pay now or before it ships?

Buelldr if you wanted to actually hear the sound of a D&D exhaust I really am not that far from you. It will make a huge difference in your opinion to hear and actually look to see if this exhaust is for you or not. I live about an hour from Champaign.

-buelldr-

You wont be sorry! The way the RT-3 makes this bike sound, never heard anything like it before. It does not sound like any other V-twin crotch rocket, or any bike for that matter, it just sounds like pissssed offf American Muscle!!!!

I've been saving up for the RT-4 but now you guys have me thinking about the RT-3. The RT-4 has a deeper sound, right?

The RT-3 is a little louder, tone is pretty much the same though. I do have an insert to break the volume level some. No ideas on performance impact yet, but percentage for flow, it's essentially the same as an open pipe. Tip style and the angle of the outlet will also have an effect on the subjective volume. The slash is a little louder than a square cut or radius tube, not sure why though. All of them are currently on sale and will remain so through Christmas, so if you don't get what you really _really_ wanted, I'll make one for you at a discount.

I've watched and listen to the videos,It seems the RT-4 has a nice deeper sound than the RT-3. Am I missing it?

The tone is pretty much the same between all of them, they're based on the same design. The only difference for sound is either the split equally or off to the right only. They all sound deep like that, the RT-3 video was just a little sharper sounding with the slash cut. The radius tube and the square cut are a little more mellow than the slash cut.

Btw, I got an email today from a guy that bought a pipe from me about a "homemade exhaust". I gotta share this. You guys should be happy that the Buell fabricators out there take pride in what we do. You might end up with something like this.

quote:

After much consideration, I think I am going to have this guy build the next set of pipes for my bike! His entire build thread is really worth a read if you have a min (for a laugh!).

Scary.

Be happy you've got a lot of good builders out there.

OMG that is funny! I was feeling bad because I have been experimenting with my exhaust with not so great results, but I have not done ANYTHING like that. I'm just trying to quiet it down a bit. My bike and exhaust are still pristine and functioning properly. I did have a mid pipe fall off my Kawasaki more than 20 years ago when I was a newbie. I had installed a Kerker system on my bike myself. I now know everything needs to fit properly with no binding before you begin tightening things, and you have to tighten things evenly. I was leaned over in a curve on Interstate 30 headed east into downtown Dallas going over onto Interstate 35 when it came off. I was going at least 70. I never felt it leave the bike, but i sure heard the difference! The silencer was still hanging from the passenger foot peg.

LMAO now that's funny.. I loved the response that says "I'll never undertake something like that - I have no skills", well let's face it neither does "skippi"..

Oddly enough, I suspect if he's heat-wrapped the full length including the flexi pipe it would've looked quite a bit better... Not good enough to look at without wanting to gouge your eyes out after, but better

Thanks for sharing that Dean - very amusing

Loud exhaust on the street...

It's pretty much BS...!
I'd bet MOST exhaust outlets are aimed toward the REAR of their bike.

This means that the sound is moving,,,for the MOST part...away from the direction of travel.

So unless one is running Nitromethane and has a lot of cubic inches....read up on the "Doppler Effect"..!

Merry Christmas all.

I was overtaken by the loudest bike on the planet down the freeway a couple of weeks back. I could hear him coming for miles. When it went passed it was a CR with a D&D.

I think there is such a thing as too loud. I'm waiting for the new TorqueHammer. It's supposed to be a bit quieter at idle than the one I have.
